Very few of the players that have been booed in recent seasons have lacked desire or effort. the reason they have not performed has been because they are not good enough and the reason they are at the club is because the club has gone out and signed them. Look at francis, he has always put in a shift, but he has not been good enough so booing him to improve when that has not been in his capability has been a negative.
If there is any one to abuse in the past it has been the management - yup Parky got it in the neck - but really its the board who allowed us to get in the position where we could only sign ponies.
But then the thing we should all be doing is getting behind our team
Got to confess. Danny Mills got sent off once just before Christmas. I booed him as he walked off for good reason, we all know why he got sent off. Same as Sodje.
I also have a waxwork of Lloyd Sam and I boo it every night. Mind you, he is where I thought he would end up. Warming the bench at a higher level.
I remember going to Stockport away in 98, getting turned over easily 3-0 and the fans booing Charlton. I had never heard us getting booed before and it was hard to hear. Charlton then went on a terrific run and end up in the play offs. The rest is history.
Did the booing get the team into the play offs and then the Premiership? No, it was helped by the fact the players knew they had loyal supporters who would push them on in every underdog situation they came across. Would mean they wanted to play for the fans and give it their all.
I have never booed a performance, not because i think we have played well every game, of course we haven't. But because i don't see how booing helps the team and club. Being positive encourages a player to shape up and and give them a lift. Booing the team just makes the fight uphill even tougher for the players and even more frustrating for the fans.

What Danny Mills did that day was an utter disgrace.
A guy next to me in The West Stand shouted for Francis to drop dead and take a suicide pill.
Some people really need to get a grip on reality. The guy was in his 60's and became more and more vocal as the game went on and didn't once get behind the players or team but just slagged them off.
lol only just read this so it may have been commented on already but how can he have taken a "suicide pill" if he had dropped dead ?
booooing by some at everton hmmmmm isnt that newshoppers team??
i know there was boooing at wolves on saturday ,
it's not exclusive to us
and i'd say our fans were more than patient and that approach didn't really help as crap after crap performance was meekly accepted by everyone and our club turned into south londons laughing stock falling from the glory prem/curbs years to hopefuly the low of 13th in the third tier last season
maybe the boooing mentioned above in the stockport game was the kick up the backside/wake up call the team needed but probably not
the nicey nicey meek acceptance of all the joke decisions like accepting relegation from the championship which was sealed once the caretaker was given the job are all reasons we got to 13th last season
booooing rather than accepting our fate may have meant the people in charge may have dug deeper to get someone other than parky at that stage but probably not
and we won on saturday after these mystery/unheard boooos made sure francis wasn't near the first team squad
our fans have never been the noisiest at backing our team and theyve never been the noisiest at boooing our team
it isnt down to the fans otherwise leeds and man city would never have gotten to the third tier
The fans play a part -Curbs really understood that and Chrissy looks like he does too. I do agree that in the right circumstances- collective booing can have a positive impact as well as a negative one, but booing an individual is never an option. Your point about Francis being nowhere near the first team is a poor one -if we had a couple of injuries - Francis would be in the first team and would his treatment on Tuesday make him more likely to play as he did against Reading or Preston? I don't think that is a question there is even any point debating. It isn't just the player getting the boos- some more sensitive young players starting out may be more nervous because they see the treatment of a fellow pro. The amount of money a footballer gets has no bearing on his resillience and if they represent your club you need to do what you can to get the maximum out of them -even if it is a McCormack! Can't see why some don't realise this is a no brainer!
And as I tell my son -it isn't an excuse to do something wrong to say that others are just as bad or worse - you have to be better than them.
One more time, what most people are most pissed off about is the booing of a player before the game has got under way, and the bullying of an individual player who is having a stinker.
That is quite different to what you are talking about at Everton and Wolves this weekend which was a general reaction to a poor performance by the whole team.
As for this line "and we won on saturday after these mystery/unheard boooos made sure francis wasn't near the first team squad" that is seriously ridiculous. Francis apparently played well against Reading but Chris Solly was back for the next league game, because he did not deserve to lose his place. That is the way Chris Powell works. He certainly isnt somebody who's going to be influenced by the biggest muppets from among our support.
I don't doubt that fans are quicker to book these days than back in the 90s.
Back in the 90s we were playing in the premiership were we didn't expect t win and getting a draw was a good day.
Now we are in league one and I for one don't want to be playing Rochdale and Stevenage and think we ought to be beating these teams easily. Therefore I have less patience when we don't.
When we get back to the premier I will happy applaud when we lose 3-0 to Man U.
Of course a terrible 7 or so years has lowered patience levels but ironically, these are the times when the club needs our support all the more. I don't think you can call yourself a true supporter if you are not willing to do your bit.

This is the reason why teams like us and Leeds have struggled with getting out this league, underestimating the opposition. Just being a bigger club does not mean that teams will come over to the Valley and roll over. If anything they will put in the extra effort.
I think now we have had the luxury of spending some money and getting better players, but last year it was clear to see the players were simply not good enough and therefore getting beat at Rochdale was not surprising.
The point is, for the umpteenth time. The majority of the supporters heard no booing and this is the most ridiculous thread, making mountains out of molehills that has possibly ever existed.
It's been nearly a week, drop it for gawd's sake !

exactly but just cos someone may have heard a boooo or two the molehill is built and feeds the frenzy of charlton weirdos ready to make it
there's plenty of stuff i hear at the ground about so and so being a **** etc really doesn't warrant being mentioned or brought up but then again i'm not looking to make something out of nothing
no one has to explain to me about how wank our support is i've been saying it for a long long time
It was pretty good on Saturday. We lost our 2 goal lead in about 5 minutes and before the ball had even been knocked for the centre kick the crowd were cheering the team on and shouting down the Dale supporters.

Not when Muttley can come up with a statement so profound:
