Even if a player is playing TERRIBLE, what does booing him achieve? It just makes his confidence go down and makes him feel inferior to his teammates. It doesn't help Charlton one bit..I fail to see the logic in booing our own player. Yes, Frances was shite, but booing him isn't the answer.
Bit embarrassing that we need to discuss this whilst sitting top of the league, in regards to Francis from the west stand as said above seemed more frustration than booing
I didn't hear any boos all night, groans yes, but no boos?
in East Stand, didn't hear any boos at any point. Mountain out of molehill, journalist trying to get a story where there isn't one.
Personally I think Chris Powell has a mind of his own. If he didn't feel there was and has been any vociferous "individual criticism" he would have said so. Or do you really think he is a spineless twonk who only wishes to please a freesheet journalist? (with due respect to the journalist, who does a good job for us)

None taken and you are right CP does have a mind of his own.
Criticism where a player can't be bothered to make the effort is fine. As is criticism of consistently bad decisions by management or board. But, consistent barracking of individuals, like Francis, doesn't help. To those who think that booing doesn't effect players, and that good players will always be good, and bad players always bad. We have a player in our first team who played very well initially for his previous club, then had one bad game and was targeted by the boo boys at his previous club. As a result his previously good form dropped away. Regarding "Powell added: “It is early but it gives us the confidence to go out there and play.“We were very patient last week (v Exeter) and people were saying ‘get it up front quick’, but we can’t play like that." I wonder if he was addressing the individual a few rows behind me in the East stand on Saturday.
Nobody booed Francis even when he made his usual first couple of mistakes, but he was clearly beaten for skill and pace which resulted in their first goal.
He went straight from that calamity to a lunging tackle and a yellow card - as if that would make things better !
Francis and Benno both have to find their top game to stay in this squad, because nobody wants an individual error / missed chance to cost us the chance of getting out of this piss pot division.
I am not condoning booing, but fans have been very very patient over the last few years, and to see a guy that never moved to AFCB over "personal terms", make an error in future that may cost us a chance of promotion will not sit well with anyone.
My message to CP, SF and Benno is..............man-up !............ criticism is all part of professional football.

middle of west stand near where francis was playing , no booos just groans

Bit embarrassing but may be if it stops one booer than it might have worked. Who knows. I cringed reading it.
I raised the subject because I'm sick to death of hearing criticism of certain players at Valley games.
It has been going on for years and the people who do it need to ask themselves what exactly is it they achieve by mouthing off.
If CP's comments make them think again then good. I won't hold my breath though.
Well spoken up, Paul / Liam.
Mountain and molehill comes to mind
