    Charlton 3-0 Portsmouth 14/9/91 @ Upton Park (age 4)

  • First league game; Brentford v Barnsley 1978. Bees promotion push. Quiz question....name the two Barnsley centre-halves that day? Both recently out of work managers.
M McCarthy will be one, not sure about the other
  • 1960. Charlton 3 Stoke 1. Johnny Summers hat-trick
  • Tuesday, October 1st, 2002. Charlton vs Oxford
  • 01/02 Season at home v fulham. We lost.
  • 1986 @ Selhurst, Man U 0-0 was hooked after that
  • Sat 19th October 1968 V Oxford Utd

A first half Graham Moore goal scored at the Covered End won it, vividly remember walking up the bank to what is now the South Stand and being knocked out by the size of the East & South Terrace, used to be on one level in those days.
10 bob/50p for the whole day, return train from Higham, pogramme, wagon wheel and Kiora from the venders who used to sell along the cinder track.

From memory Charlton team that day: Charlie Wright, Bob Curtis, Brian Kinsey, Alan Campbell, John Kiers, Peter Reves, Harry Gregory, Graham Moore, Jimmy Mullen, Ray Treacy & Paul Hince.

Ron Atkinson was playng for Oxford United.

Of all the seasons to start going to The Valley, as an impresionable 10 year old it had to be 1968/69, who all older Lifers will recall was the best for many a year, with the highlight being the 2-0 win over Brian Clough's Champions elect Darby County.

    Happy, happy days!

  • SheffieldRed....Correct re: Mick McCarthy and the other Barnsley defender was Neil Warnock.
  • First ever game - Dumbarton 6 vs East Stirling 0 - 10th April 1971 (40+ years ago!!).

First CAFC game - 1-4 at home to WBA in Premier League. First ever "big" game and despite result have loved CAFC ever since. Have gone from once a season interloper to a Jackson 5 holder and by end of this season will have seen 11 games this season (7 at home, 4 away). Partly due to great football, mostly due to man love for Chris Solly - he's f****in quality!!

Celtic and Swindon don't count - diddy leagues, I support the best 2 teams in the UK on current form - Dumbarton and CAFC!!

    COYR!!
  • 23/10/76 3-2 Sheffield United at Vallley
  • Seem to remember player getting injured and supporter laying on floor surrounded by crowd after game by the arches. How do i find out who scored?
  • Was a great game.  From my faded memory the Football league had Ogrizivic, Robson but cant really remember the others. The beat a team containing Lineker, Maradonna, Jorghino, Platini.

I was also at that game, still got program as Maradona signed it for me before the game

My first Charlton game was at Selhurst v Palace in 1985 cup game. I used to live that way so started supporting when we played there
  • 1st game Arsenal v Liverpool FA Cup final. I then got taken to the Valley the following season and the rest is history..
