  • Very good, but in all seriousness I'd rather you didn't Chirps as I'm making a special trip back from baysitting my grandson in Congleton for that one and don't want a miserable return journey.
  • September 21st 1985 Vs. Stoke, last game at The Valley. From that point on, I assumed pitch invasions were normal. Met Derek Hales before the game. Thought he was related to my dad (the beard). Car broke down on the way home (Vauxhall Viva).
  • The centenary game of 2005 vs Newcastle. I was 10. My nephew took the first penalty at half time vs Bob Bolder! He was 3 :-) I have it on video, he was also on Sky Sports presented by Richard Keys.
  • Selhurst Park:

    Charlton 0 Luton Town 1

    1985/86 (I think?)
  • First Game - Chelsea v Millwall 1995 FA cup, I was 5/6 years old and fell asleep. Woke up being throw up and down when Millwall scored.

First Charlton Game - Play Off final, Millwall supporting Dad took me and must have regretted it ever since. :)
  • 1960, 5 years old but can not remember game, hooked ever since, only missed one season of home games since due to work. COYR
  • September 1963 v Cardiff City Won 5-2

Rose, Hewie, Kinsey, Bailey, Haydock, Tocknell, Kenning, Matthews, Firmani, Edwards and Glover.

  • December 26 2003-Charlton 4 vs Chelski 2

Who remembers bunking in over the wall.
Nah I was a good boy...........oh wait I used to do a 'Nathan Prior' though (allegedly) and pay under 18 prices until I was about 22!
  • One thing that stands out here is how easily people and friends managed to get Play

I remember going with my Dad in the 70's and going through the whole in the fence at the top of the big East terrace along with many others ...... Probably explains why attendances were so low
  • Who remembers bunking in over the wall.
I remember bunking over the wall! One game, after we bunked over, we hung around, waiting for kids smaller than us to come over so we could intimidate them and get their money off them. It worked until some kids bigger than us grabbed all our takings!
Also remember going down to the dogs after some games and crawling under the fence to take a look.
The season we lost 11-1 to Villa didn't we then play them at home and had a 3-2 win?
First game circa 58/59 at home to Cardiff

  • Sometime in the Autumn of 1962. I was 10. Don't know who it was against or the score. Duff in goal. Don Townsend at RB. Stuart Leary up front. John Hewie was in there somewhere. At least i think they played. :-) I remember walking down through the Park and sitting on the wall at the top of the East Terrace.
  • i was 11, qpr at home...night game, 96/97 i think,

1 vs 1, super clive penalty ......supported arsenal before that

That is mutinous talk Mr Bligh thank goodness you saw the light before somebody placed a Bounty on your head!
  • October 83 - beat Man City 1-0 at The Valley - aged 5

First game I remember anything about was Spurs away (a 1-0 defeat) in April 1987 aged 9.
  • I can't really remember it at all, think it was against Leicester in 98/99.
  • September 2006 - lost 0-1 to Portsmouth at the Valley.

It was Omar Pouso who got me hooked.
  • Nope can't remember either but Derek Hales was still playing and so was Colin 'Paddy' Powell. When he came over to the far side (east) he always spoke to us which I thought at the time was fantastic (I didn't get out much)
But my god it was cold on that bank.

  • December 1986 - 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Selhurst park. My next game was another 0-0 draw, this time with Man Utd.

Amazing the amount of Lifers who went to see Millwall for their first game, seems you all saw the light!
  • We beat Villa 2-0 at home in 1960. I remember as a ten year old nearly being crushed on the way out when I was caught on the exit gate and the crowds weight nearly crushed me. Very scary. The attendance was offically 20000 but seemed a lot more.
  • I came to the Charlton religion a little late. I was a non-believer but thankfully I was born again some time in the 2005/2006 season.
I can't remember my first game. I remember the 1-1 against Man City and I remember Curb's last game. All else is a blur!
  • Charlton v Leicester 1969. Peter Shilton was in goal,Keith Weller on the wing.Or were those football cards?
  • 76/77 season I think? Charlton 1-4 Luton
  • Charlton v Bolton Wanderers, Div 2, Aug 1966. 0-1 (Wyn Davies).
  • 18 Nov 1967 Charlton Athletic v Blackpool L 0-2 League Division Two.

  • FA Cup against Spurs in Feb 2001 (2-4)
First away game against Fulham in October 2002 (we lost 1-0)
First away game outside London was at Middlesbrough in 2003 (1-1)
  • First game; Hendon v Enfield circa 1972 Amatuer Cup Semi-final at Griffin Park.

First league game; Brentford v Barnsley 1978. Bees promotion push. Quiz question....name the two Barnsley centre-halves that day? Both recently out of work managers.

First Charlton game; away to QPR 1982 (0-4). Was following QPR a bit then and remember thinking that Charlton looked a right tin-arse team! (Nicky Johns had a bit of a mare).

First Charlton home game; 1982 Simonsen's debut v Middlesbrough.
  • Charlton 0-0 Blackburn, FA cup 93/94, I was 10. I sat in the covered end (A block I think) I couldnt see a thing but loved every minute of it.
