Charlton 2-2 Swansea. About 1983, I was 5 at the time. My dad took me as it looked like we were going out of business and he wanted to be able to say that he'd taken me to the valley. I seem to remember killer scoring with a twice taken penalty.
May have been earlier in the 1957/8 season (aged 7) but definitely remember the promotion decider V Blackburn when we only needed a draw to go straight back to the 1st Division (premiership in todays money) and lost 3-4, which meant Blackburn leap frogged us to go up with West Ham. We then languished in the 2nd & 3rd tiers for the next 28years! The Valley must have had around 50k in there that day and I distinctly remember my father sitting me on the wall in the far left hand corner at the back of the old East Tettace and spending most of the game worried I was going to fall off like Humpty Dumpty over the other side!
Charlton 3 coventry 2 pre season friendly 1971. Played on a friday night , def penalty involved for us with Alan Campbell scoring it. Been hooked ever since.
Simonsens debut against Middlesbrough 1982 with my Uncle, can't really remember it....but the game that turned my into a Charlton fan was Brighton at home 1984, won 2-0, I know Martin Robinson scored, and was my first game under the cherished Covered End, back row bellowing out the songs...ahh memories, I was hooked
1985 at home to Barnsley and we won 5-3 after being 3-0 down i think. An aging Derek Hales came on as sub to a rapturous welcome and swung his boot whenever the ball came even vaguely near him in the penalty box.
I'm guessing year as about 1977, think was home to Plymouth Argyle and we beat them 7-6, could all of been a dream and I do have a crap memory but was 35 years ago.
I remember going to combination league games when players use to play in them to get fit - it was virtually the reserves and first team players and some great players played in them -- and we got in free

Any one remember going to these games.
Yep, went to a few, remember watching the Kimble brothers
December 1981, against Newcastle. Won 2 nil with Simonsen scoring the second. The Newcastle team that day i think had Waddle and Beardsley plus many other household names. Was gutted Keegan was injured. Sons first game 2 nil Stevenage.
April 72, Charlton 0 Norwich 2. Some weeks later Charlton were relegated out of the old second division, whilst Norwich went up as champions. I was six years old and can clearly remember watching from right at the top of the old East terrace. Loved everything about it and was hooked from that day.

One of the Futcher twins, Ron I think, got sent off for them, which kick started our come back.
First game you had to pay to get into would have been Slough Town in the 60s, don't know who against but the great rivalry then was with Wycombe. How things change huh.
First Charlton game was at Selhurst against Bristol City I think, probably around 1994. Was a 1-1 draw I think.

Probably around 1991 or 92 I suspect as we were at The Valley in 94!
You're right. Shame on me. It was Bristol Rovers 2-2 in January 91. Dragged along by my 5 year old son and got hooked. Previously a Rebel with fewer and fewer trips to see Slough each year.
1959/60 season Sunderland at the Valley.I went to a reserve game I think it was Nottingham Forest a week or so before and if I'm not mistaken it was the day we lost 11-1 to Villa .I recall the score being updated to my distain on the loudspeaker system.I remember being astonished at the size of the ground particulary the East Terrace. The attendance was about 200.Anyway it was the start of a long enduring love affair with Charlton.

I started welling up when that result came on the vidiprinter and my Dad said to me 'don't worry son it's a missprint that should read 1-1'..........alas it was not!

Abandoned at half time when nil-nil due to a waterlogged pitch. Not the greatest first game of football ever!
