Off home from work, don't think I've ever been glued to CL as much as I have today. Hope all of in you up there, your friends and family stay safe tonight!
Just watched the clip that you put up, Nozza. My politics have just taken a step even further to the right...
...we have some candidates for compulsory sterilisation right there. If any of my taxes are going to pay for moronic, lazy, amoral f**kwits like that to breed and get pissed all day, then I think that those of us on the other side of this business need to do something of our own to start being listened to. Today in the media I have heard every cretinous idiot possible being given airtime to try and justify this madness (people with clothing worth more than the contents of my house pleading poverty) and I am absolutely f**king sick of it.
Just heard it being repeated on the radio as well now - if that doesn't spur people on to demand change in our benefits system (and wider society), then I don't know what will. If it does bring about change, then at least this sickening mess will have some sort of silver lining.
Thing is if these people are so upset about rich people and bankers / politicians etc then why are they burning down a family run furniture store in Croydon which employs 20 odd people - they are hardly the mega wealthy. Why have they burnt down flats? Why have they looted small shops which local people run on a shoe string budget including barbers etc? There is no excuse and any one who makes one is a complete idiot.

Bring back National Service.
because they are thick and uneducated and don't even know why they're doing it. even by smashing up ladbrokes - a large company, the staff that work in the stores aren't rich. muppets the lot of them. uneducated muppets.

They were asked that. The response was something along the lines of "they is rich and got business, hope it carries on tonight. We do what we want" Utter utter pond life.
IPCC have now confirmed that no evidence that Mark Duggan fired on police. The bullet lodged in the police radio was police issue. Just reporting on BBC.

Are the police trying to insight more rioting?? Why announce that today?
Due to train cancellation, had to get the 89 bus back to Welling. Pretty quiet, all shops shut up apart from Maccy D's, The Turnpike, and the Kebab Shops. The people that run the Tattoo parlour opposite the turnpike are sitting outside their boarded up shop on chairs, enjoying the sunshine.
Did notice two PCSOs on lookout at the bus stop outside the We Anchor In Hope at the bottom of Shooters Hill, checking out the buses on the way into town.

But to someone without a pot to piss in, someone who owns or even just works in a shop is comparatively "rich". Obviously I don't know the background of those two drunk girls interviewed, and it in no way justifies their actions, but if they do live below the poverty line they would likely see everyone above it as "rich". It's a comparative term, and doesn't always signify a millionaire.
That doesn't mean they can steal and set fire to make it 'fair' again.
the celebrity culture of having what you want by doing very little isn't helping the situation.

Well I hope my open mind is now justified. Doubt anyone that gave me grief will acknowledge that though
23 pages in the sub-standard tonight devoted to riots, and not one mention of woolwich - they really do dislike south east london
Game was raided at orpington and shops looted in orpington too but not mentioned either. Obviously not on the same scale as the proper ones but suprised it didnt warrant a mention considering the video i saw of it.

Another example of hysteria.....rumours went crazy when Woolwich Arsenal station was closed.
Reason? To allow Network Rail to assess the safety of a near-by building.
Ladbrookes in New Eltham was yesterday.
They have barely mentioned Woolwich yet the place looks like a bomb's hit it!!

Barely had a mention on BBC News 24.
Can't understand it. Looks much much worse than Ealing, Peckham and Lewisham.

The shops have closed early and that is it.
