Hardly a great advert for the olympics. So many shops being looted really feel angry more than anything.

Went home at two by car. Roads busy leaving town. All quiet in Charlton but all shops boarded up. So is Greenwich.

Just precautionary stuff and no disorder. Well apart from people panic buying in the coop shooters hill... the only shop we found open.

    Just crazy.

The FTSE is back up today so I reckon it will all be calm tonight
  •

Rumours spreading that Charlton and Millwall fans are defending Eltham High Street.
    Get in!
    And EDL
Hope this doesn't become a race based issue because all the pictures show a cross section of low-life society out to cause trouble and steal anything that isn't nailed down. as for fans mobbing up and protecting their own, i'm up for that. i've been talking to people in sheffield today and we discussed how we'd handle it if it kicks of here. i know they say you shouldn't take the law into your own hands, but if people are not going to be protected then they should be allowed to protect themselves and their properties. my partner lived in down-town LA during the roits and had her balcony shot at when local store owners holed themselves up above their stores waiting for the looters to turn up. over their they down mess about due to the right to own guns and it being written into their constitution that they have a legal right to protect themselves. i hope that any CAFC fans that mob up tonight are doing it out of a genuine passion for their area and not just an opportunity to have a good punch up. Good luck to all across the Capital and also large towns.

Maidstone is closing up apparently, sounds like everyone is taking precautions.

Full of happy shoppers and a roaring trade being done by the retailers when I left under an hour ago.

and that is still the case as I sit looking at the high street from my flat people are still wandering round shopping peacefully

Looks like I can't even trust my own wife's reports then! Silly moo!

if Cameron can pledge 16,000 police on the streets or on standby tonight, why was this number not available before. London has been burdened with a string of Commissioners and senior officers who appear to be more interested in politicking and back slapping/glad handing than policing. London needs and deserves a Police Commissioner who is left alone to do his job(s) .. i.e. organise and implement the detection and prevention of crime no matter how 'petty' or 'victimless', from shoplifting to multiple murder. Political correctness and social equality needs to be put back in the hands of the army of 'social workers' (usually idiots who are unemployable in any other field and who are financed by a variety of charity and outreach schemes). The social workers can be locked in a quiet or sondproofed room where they can rant and moan all day and no-one will pay any attention to them.

I bet after a few pints the EDL/hooligan lot will switch from defending shops to looting themselves. A lot of the people who attend riots are football firms anyway.
Your right all of this is down to football thugs well done.

Lets be honest, theres a good chance it will be quiet tonight, the looters took advantage of a low police presence present throughout the streets of london. There chances of getting away with it tonight are much slimmer.

The only problem is we wont be able to keep up this substantial amount of policing 24/7 - 365!!!
