He can have 25000 police out there but if like every other night, they just stand by and watch them throw stuff, loot shops and torch places then what is the point?
Well they did the Hugo Boss and Foreign Exchange by Sloane Street station when I came past this morning. Maybe when it starts getting a bit closer to home they'll start cracking heads.
In his defence, I don't know what he can do to make it alright. however, all the scum involved last night won't be watching bbc news cameron's statement and listen and think 'oh yeah, i was a bit out of order last night' they'll still be sleeping it all off.
hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if I see a policeman even on my road, I feel safe, and also probably stand up straighter because of the respect i have for them, even though they're probably younger than me. I was so petrified of my teachers at school and i knew when I'd pushed things too far with my parents and got threatened with a smack (more for being cheeky rather than anything else).
The way kids have a lack of respect for everyone is shocking. my mates next door neighbour lives in a 2 bed flat with a balcony, her neighbour has got 2 kids, is pregnant and has a dog. the dog barks 24/7 and she calls the youngest the c word and locks him on the balcony and screams that if he doesn't shut up she'll throw him over the balcony.
what hope has he got?
my mate has called the council about the noise, but lives in fear that they'll know it was her that reported it and with a young son and no plans to move she doesn't feel like she can call social services.
My close friend from Kent Police has just got home from a 26 hour shift up London. They were not allowed to do anything other than "hold their lines" apparently.
Where will these extra 10k police come from? Surely this will leave other places in the country very vulnerable?
May be even special constables....and that wont help much.......but as you say if they are coming from other forces elsewhere it will leave those places short....having lived there for 15 years I fully expect Nottingham to kick off more than it did last night.....some areas there are already really bad......but again I hope I'm wrong.
The c*** hasn't got a clue. It'll never happen on the mean streets of Witney, so why should he be expected to understand the depths of depravity in the underclass in Britain? What f***ing use is there having more coppers on the streets standing around? You don't need 16000 police doing nothing, you need 5000 cracking skulls open and leaving them bleeding to death in the f***ing gutter.
How about emergency powers for police and curfews being imposed. The army could be utilised to support Police. Authorisation of appropriate force by Police in serious public order situations. Minimum prison sentences for those caught rioting - shall I continue Floyd or would you suggest a commitee meeting sat crossed legged on bean bags drinking herbal tea on a date in the future? Meanwhile people on this forum fear for their safety in certain areas...........and you tell ME to get real!
Paul I dont think you realise that much of what you suggest requires changes to the laws of the land. These things cannot be changed overnight, by ANY government. I have explained on this thread why the Army will be the last resort, and again it takes considerable time to organise such a complex operation. Suzi said the Army were on the streets for the Poll Tax riots. I dont remember this, though it was at the end of my term of service. They would need more than the three days we have endured for the organisation of training, communications control and co-ordination with local police commanders.
There is no quich fix I'm afraid, however much we all want one.
Not sure why you need to infer about my tea drinking preferences.
Theresa May was about as reassuring as one of Les Reeds press conferences.
She should stick to modelling shoes.
There's not much to laugh about at the moment, but that made me chuckle!
Top level politics seems to have become a dumping ground for Oxbridge graduates who are too useless to hold down jobs in the commercial environment. Hopefully the very real possiblity of actually having to solve serious social problems will dissuade the next generation of feckless goons from following such a career path, but I doubt it
I just dont understand, you see it all the time at football matches police using batons on hooligans why wont they use it against these mindless yobs!?

Yes, lets all blame the PM. It must be his fault. As it happens, I agree that we need to take a hard line. Problem is, by 'cracking peoples skulls' the whole country would descend into anarchy overnight and fall to bits.

That pretty much happened outside my front door last night anyway fella. Seriously - there isn't that much further to go. It's not his 'fault', but his reaction to it is predictably useless.

That any repeat today will be stamped out. Give the police the power to deal with aggression with force.

Though the local laws are different they do still have the training and equipment
The PSNI would be better trained. they dont mess about.
If it goes off in Belfast they seem pretty effective. Local laws will be a huge issue, but still think it'd be an option.
Didn't know there were distinct forces. Thought they were all under one banner.
