EastTerrace6:54PMWe were 14th after playing Brighton at home. And then we went on an unbeaten run and got into 5th place, then sacked the November Manager of the Month.
Manager of the month = kiss of death and who did we beat in that unbeaten run Barnet after a replay, Non League Luton after a replay and struggled to beat Southend away 1-0 in the Paint pot trophy cos I was there and it was dire! Parky was on borrowed time glad he's gone.
I too am glad Parkinson has gone. I didn't want to finish in the play-offs and I did not want to see his negative long-ball tactics anymore...!
Even at the end of the season with the benefit of hindsight the majority of those who called for Parkinson's head still cannot see that it was a mistake. Absolutely astonishing.
Slater and co showed how ruthless they can be with the sacking of Parkinson, so I wouldn't put it past them to get rid of CP. What club ever got anywhere by changing managers every 6 months?
Like it or not the man was part of the Pardew resigme which got us relegated from the Championship and he left CP a pile of dross which could only play one way and was dire to watch. Get over yourself it would have all ended in tears anyway. Do you honestly think we could've bettered the achievements of Brighton Southampton Huddersfield or Peterborough? He's history now so lets see what what the new broom can deliver with a chance to build his own team in the summer.
No I am not convinced that we would have finished above any of those four teams, but if we are going to play that game do you think we would have finished 13th and won only two matches since February? Do I honestly think that? Not a chance for even a second.
I agree with you, he was part of the old regime and he should have gone when Pardew went and the boards should have been swept. However, he did not. So perhaps you should "get over yourself" on that point?
Don't forget, BWP, Eccleston, Parrett and Stewart did not play a minute under Parkinson. All have shown their abilities to be better than what we had previously when our resources were stretched.
What was the point in giving him the bullet in January and surrendering for the rest of the season from the following month onwards? We have not gained anything whatsoever out of the exercise and after initial improvement I am at a loss to come up with any reasons to be optimistic about things on the pitch that do not relate to the financial security that the takeover has apparently given us.
I am sick to death of people crucifying Parkinson. I am not his biggest fan but dear me adopt a sensible view based on facts. We were no worse off, it's okay to admit it.
Spot on Ledge just as well BWP, Eccleston Parrett and Stewart didnt play under Parky might have finished their careers! It cetainly did'nt do Docherty, Francis, Mcoxo, Benson Reid, any good did it?
Exactly my point newbie CP has inheritted dross (Jury still out on Reid). The decision to appoint CP was a gamble admitted, which failed to gain promotion but the owners had their own ideas for the future and Parky was not part of that especially without the support of the majority of fans - end of.
CP is just lucky he is who he is, because if he was anyone else the fans would have been baying for his blood long ago. None of the mangers we have had has ever had the depth of goodwill that CP has and the results so far have severely tested that good will.
Parky wasn't great, not by a long shot but he was decent. I would of personally given him till end of season.
However, he has been sacked and thats that. Sacking Powell now is utterly pointless we've glimpes of what Powell wants to do and with clever summer signing (lets be honest, we know we're not mega rich) we can be competitive next year.
It has to be said though, if the poor form continues into next season, Powell will have his back up against the wall and I doubt the fans showing goodwill and patience will continue to do so.
Pro Parkie or anti Parkie what I don't think can be denied is everybody wants CP to succeed and whilst the start of his reign has not been auspicious, we are hoping that the summer will enable him to take stock and bring in players that will enable him to succeed. Whilst we may have varying degrees of confidence that it will happen, we all want it to ...... don't we?
I think Powell will do well next season and don't believe for a second he will be sacked before it gets underway. Without a doubt it was the wrong decision to sack Parky and Powell has majorly underachieved with this side which is more than capable of the playoffs at least. However with some good signings and better football theres no reason why we can't win the league next year and if that happens then nobody will be talking about the decision to sack Parky anymore. The only thing is that the pressure is going to be on Powell even more now and in my opinion if we're not top 2 or right in the play-offs by October then he has to go because he would have had more than enough time and that would be the best time to give someone else a go so we don't get a repeat of this mess.
I wasn't calling for Parky's head but I thought it was the right call when they sacked him. We were probably in a false position at the time, I can remember games like Notts County, where you come out of the ground and thought how did we get away with that. However, it's possible under Parky we might have scraped in to the play offs, we were no worse than Leyton O who just missed out and beat Peterbro & MK but then we lost to Walsall and other teams near the bottom, so you could equally argue we would have missed out even if he stayed. One thing is for certain though it wasn't good watching us most of the time and problems we had carried for a couple of seasons weren't getting fixed. Maybe we had to go backward to start sorting out problems like the defence instead of papering over the cracks. Also, I personally wouldn't have appointed CP but they have (the board) and to be fair if you want to play a different style of football you have to have the appropriate type of players. I think Powell thought he could just change the style of play and everything would be ok, he has been proved wrong if that was the case. The moment he let Abbot go without getting in a replacement target man you knew what CP's intent was. Parky knew he could grind out some results with the long ball game, but we all know you need a bit more than that to get promotion. Nothing in football surprises but I reckon the board will let him make his signings and see how it goes (hopefully with success) but if results are not as expected early then this headline might have some credence come early October.

Nothing surprises me.
Addicks boss Powell left to sweat over future
So says Sunday People headline......doesn't exactly look like Chris is sweating in the picture does it ?Nothing would surprise me with the new owners. If you can sack a manager who has kept us in the top 5 for a season and a half then...
Relegation form under "Sir Chris" and nothing about the way we play convinces me either.
Hey ho, I'll worry about it again in August
Totally agree with Southendaddick's comment.

What - your post? Didn't think you drank. No idea about the gear though.;o)
