Infamous inability to control himself = 4 sendings off in the last 15 years and one unguarded comment when in the dressing room & Vogts was being interviewed by BBC Scotland outside. Incorruptible, I'm pretty sure you are old enough to know better.

Well you will find Dailly's claim to fame here in this YouTube clip:
As for ''infamous'', when the sad day comes and Christian meets his maker (and hopefully it's 50 years hence) I'm afraid you will find that this incident will figure in paragraph one of his obituary. Rightly or wrongly, it's the one thing he's known for above all else to people who do not follow Charlton Athletic. Trust me on this one: I write newspaper obituaries for a living!
Dailly is well worth keeping as a squad player for next season but he will probably be released as Docherty is on a two-year deal (I think) and they are not going to keep both of them.
He could still do a job in L1 next season, probably end up at O's or Brentford.
[cite]Posted By: Covered End[/cite]For all those criticising Dailly for his reaction :-
If you were standing in the pub and someone kicked you in the face with the sole of their foot, personally I wouldn't blame you if you retaliated & under these circumstances, I can't blame Christian. I don't condone it mind you.
Also, thought he was a tad unlucky at Orient. To me it was a mistimed tackle.
Have to say his 1st was at home to Bournemouth, I think & I can't remember that one.
The Bournemouth one was over by the East Stand roughly level with the Covered End 18 yard area and was deemed to be a deliberate elbow to the face therefore straight red.
I had a decent view of it from where I sit and thought it was harsh as firstly it looked debatable as to whether he actually made contact with the player's face at all and secondly IF he did it looked accidental rather than deliberate and warranted a yellow at the very most. The player (Pugh if memory serves me right) looked none the worse once Dailly was on his way!
The Club contemplated an appeal against the Bournemouth red card I believe but on grounds of cost and possibility of an increased ban for a frivolous appeal decided against it.
EDIT: Substitute Yeovil for Bournemouth re Daillyand the player therefore was not Pugh.
Just seen the sending off on the Player and while you can't condone Dailly's retaliation you have to say that the Oldham player should have had a red card too for serious foul play.
I sense that if Dailly had gone down clutching his face then that may actually have happened.
It seems crazy to me that a guy can be sent off for two silly yellows like shirt-pulling/dissent but stay on the field despite making a head-high challenge that could be a jaw breaker.
"Infamous inability to control himself" - does he? Might lose his temper occasionally but that happens in football. So many of the top players do. Yes they shouldn't at times but I'm sure we'd rather see committed players occasionally getting wound up over players that don't care. Just watched it myself, looks like he's had a boot right in his face, which he instantly reacts to.
Dailly has been one of our best and most consistent players in the last two seasons. One of the most committed as well, just as much Semedo, Waggy, Elliot, whoever. A top pro like Powell was, one of our fittest players at 37 years of age. He's not a dirty player or a cheat.
Yet because he is now seen for having a terrible disciplinary record (ignoring the previous 15 years for some reason) he's not good enough, we can do better and we should be letting him go.
Yes Powell probably wouldn't have reacted like Dailly did. But could you honestly say every other Charlton legend would definitely not retaliate? Players have different characters, some very good, even world class players who should know better can have moments like that, some far worse in fact.
In 98/99 Rufus got 2 red cards in 31 appearances. Dailly's had 3 in 39 appearances this season. There's not that much difference there, but 3 red cards is suddenly the reason he should be released.
As for what Dailly said in the dressing room after that Scotland game, isn't it naive to think that sort of stuff rarely happens in football? It just happened to be caught on camera.
I hope Powell puts more thought into who to keep and who to sign rather than completely writing off players based on a one off incident. Four red cards in 15 years for a defender and a bit of swearing doesn't suggest he can't control himself. He wouldn't have been Scotland captain or kept on at clubs for several seasons if his discipline was that poor.
As I said before the club will have done an amazing job if they let our 4 centre backs go and bring in 4 quality replacements. Football doesn't work like that. If Powell thinks it's time for him to go then fair enough, but it should be based on more than the fact he picked up 3 red cards in 80 odd games for us. We could do much worse than keep Dailly as back up.
I'd leave it Scoham. Until every player associated with Parkinson has left the club, Incorruptible will churn out the same provocative rubbish intent on causing reactions. Powell can do no wrong in his eyes until absolutely everything from players to tea ladies to club shop staff have changed. Until that moment he'll blame any wrongdoings on the previous incumbent or current squad.
3 red cards this season. Leyton Orient - 2 yellows any player could have picked up. Yeovil - sent off for a clash of heads. Nonsense. Oldham - retaliation. No real excuse.
Regardless of all of the above, his performances haven't matched last season and he has gifted goals atleast 2-3 times. He is part of a defence that looks like being breeched everytime a cross comes into the box and has no pace at all. If he stays it is as a squad man or perhaps a coach. If we could do it, I'd replaced the entire back 5.

Very childish and very transparent.
Oh do grow up, WSS.
I suppose I should be flattered that you should want to put words in my mouth like that and ascribe to me views that I do not hold. But we really weren't talking about Parkinson! We were talking about Christian Dailly - and, more importantly, whether he should be part of next season's promotion-winning squad.
Time to move on, old boy. For your own peace of mind (and even more so for the sanity of the rest of us!) it really is time to stop all this debilitating angst over the Parkinson/Pardew era and look to the future.
Stop living in the past and try looking forward to a brighter tomorrow. Could you make a post wthout mentioning Parkinson - just for once? Go on, give it a try!
I look forward to the brighter future as much as the next person, yet your dismissive attitude of a player who has given no less than 100% for us over the past two seasons and been one of our most consistent performers is most insulting to a professional. Your argument about the Scotland incident is naive (see Scoham's post) and to say that is what he will be remembered for is ridiculous.
If you can't see his worth to us next season, if not in the team, then in the squad then I think you're being a bit blinkered. Maybe your god like board will provide us with the next baresi and beckenbauer next season to prove your point but I doubt it.
I'd keep him around and will not judge him on one retaliatory event and a couple of dodgy red card decisions. If you
do then maybe you should re-read some other chapters in your story book about treating others how youd like to be treated yourself. But then again I suppose every obituary you've written has been perfect, just a shame you've written Dailly's whilst he's still alive.

Ha! Didn't you realise that they all are? How do you think quality newspapers have 1500 carefully crafted words up on their websites within minutes of the announcement of the subject's death?
You'd be astonished at the list of those still living whose obits I've prepared! But I haven't written Dailly's obit. Merely dared to disagree with you and suggest that someone who is 38 in October will not be part of the new regime's plans for our promotion push in 2011/12.
As for mocking my religious faith...well, how dare you. But I shall, of course, turn the other check! lol...

Powell was 39 when he won promotion from League 1 with Leicester, played a decent number of games as well.
If he's kept his fitness up he's still a better option than Doherty, Fortune and Llera I think? We're hardly going to have a quality centre signing for us as 4th choice in this division.
It was a shocking high foot that could have done a lot of damage, he lashed out and walked, nobody has any issues over it. I'd be worried if it'd been a foul where he picked himself up off the ground and laid into someone, but it really was a split second understandable reaction to serious foul play.
Reid's foot was high and his lunge at the ball was reckless. Dailly should have given him another dig before he left the pitch .. after all Christian's season is over (vor you .. ze zeason is ovfer). Oldham are an aggressive, nasty side but what can you expect from a Dick off managed outfit
[cite]Posted By: incorruptible addick[/cite]
I try to live mine (not always successfully) by the words in Matthew 5:39 : ''If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also” .
Etc......
Incorruptible, you give the impression that you are just too perfect.
You also give the impression that you know far more about music, than you know about playing football.
[cite]Posted By: grumpyaddick[/cite]And so it came to pass that Saint Christopher of Powellshire, the chosen one of the Lord (Curbs) said unto his disciples...
"And when thou art provoked by the acts Oldham, turn the other cheek so you will all feel the comfort of clean sheets once more"
But one old Christian heeded not Saint Christopher's wise words for he had already had one cheek broken this season.
So he stuck his boot right in the crown jewells of Oldham and was sacrificed by the blind Pharisee in black robes.
For verily I say unto you.."it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for Charlton to get 3 points away from home".

he's always with you, according to Citizen Chris ! lol....

Semedo was sent off against Bournemouth.
