  • SLP piece about Stewart mentions Powell said he has the option to bring in one more signing but added we were covered all over the pitch, so maybe that's the confusion about a possible secong signing.
  • Perhaps it's Jenkinson's contract signing?
  • Overheard a conversation on the bus home and Moutaouakil's name was mentioned...?
  • The press guys (on the press gantry) said they had been told (in the press room) we would be signing 2 players tonight/tomorrow.

  • [cite]Posted By: Mendonca In Asdas[/cite]I don't mean to be disrespectful , but could we get Mcoxo doing something useful for the club apart from playing in the first team , there seemed a better atmosphere without him being on the pitch tonight, perhaps he is a rotten apple? something really useful to the club between now and the end of the season , like selling matchday programmes, or clearing the rubbish up under seats after the game, it might make him appreciate what a cushty ride he has had at this club? any other suggestions of what we could do with him?
What about 3rd prize in the valley gold draw , where he could come and cut your lawn for you , or do any odd jobs like clean your windows or block pave your driveway till his contract is up.

Wouldn't trust the guy anywhere near my house !

A fella I work with is mates with a Hearts fan. He emailed him on behalf of me about Stewart, to try and get a balance between the Hibs and Hearts view of the player, and this is what he replied (not sure what 'nyaff' is; think I can guess though):

'Can be a good player. Or at least he could when he was at hearts. Was capable of dragging the team single handedly to good performances but also capable of being totally non descript but was normally a capable if not exceptional SPL midfielder. Also a horrible wee nyaff who is liable to a good few red cards every season.'

Perhaps, not as glowing an assessment as my Hibs' colleague (a recurring theme seems to be he's got an aggressive streak that perhaps needs to be reigned in), but I was particularly taken by this sentence: 'Was capable of dragging the team single handedly to good performances'.

Good to get two unbiased assessments from the horse's mouth, so to speak. The Bailey comparison from earlier in the thread sounds more and more appropriate.

    News Hopper says:

    "(Powell talking):
“I just feel sometimes that Jose Semedo has played every game.
“We don’t have a player of that ilk really and Michael can definitely do that. "

Mr Semedo due to be rested .....?

Also sounds like CP definitely sees Stewert as a starter not just squad.
  • Or possibly a potential replacement for Semedo?

Wonder if Powell doesn't want a purely defensive player in the midfield?

Though if he wants to play 4-3-3 that's possibly exactly what you want for the defensive midfield role.

Funny you should mention this - he was at the Brentford game. Sat in the lower west!

Whoa. I still think he was potentially a great player, shame what happened.

What did happen, does anyone know?
  • I don't know what happened but I don't think he's found a club yet.
  • Apparently he's pretty unstable, gave Harry Arter a good pasting I believe!
  • Where's this ' we're signing two players' ( one now due to Stewart) quote come from?
  • He beat up a youth player while he was here?

Thought it was the other way around ?

music to my ears - love Semedo's attitude but not a good footballer - expect that to go down as well as when i've said it before but i think we can read between the lines here and for me i'd like Semedo to stay but only asa utility squad player (on reduced wages)
  • Stewart on the bench saturday, come on with 30 minutes to go (albeit that seems 29 minutes early for a CP substitution)

  • time to start?
  • Thought he looked a class act in the time he was on yesterday, short, easy simple passes, very comfortable on the ball, won tackles with little effort, using his body rather than diving in, and supplied an assist. Well worth signing.

And made semedo'd goal. if Jackson fit this season then midfield could be interesting with choices of Semedo, Parrett, Stewart, Racon, Jackson and then also Wagstaff, and back up of Reid
  • In the cameo that we got , he looked a class act , could be interesting alongside Parrett next season?

I think he looks very decent too. Needs games now though. This season is well passed it's use by date and I want to see if he can stake a claim. Not easy to do that with 10 mins here and there.

Liked what I saw of him yesterday....I to would like to see him start on Tuesday but I think will still be on bench as cant see CP changing yesterdays team unless forced to through injury.

Yes I agree. I thought he looked very cool and composed on the ball and put in a great cross for Semedo. Sort of reminded me of Matt Spring in the way he played.
  • If we are seriously considering signing him for next season he must start the rest of the games this season so that we can see if he's up to the job. From what I've seen so far a midfield of him and Parrett next season excites me, if we can persude Harry to part with Parrett for a whole season that is.
  • Shame we can't fit him into the midfield alongside Parrett, Racon and Semedo!
One option would be to drop Semedo back to CH. But I think we'd have to bring in a quicker more dominant CH than Daily to play alongside him.
Stewart could be just the kind of player we have been missing for so long, and would bring out the best in Racon who has already improved so much in recent weeks by playing alongside Parrett.
I'm already starting to feel much better about next season because CP seems to be targeting the right kind of players.

CHARLTON boss Chris Powell has confirmed he wants to keep Michael Stewart.

The 29-year-old signed last month on a short-term deal after leaving Turkish side Genclerbirligi.

“I’d love to keep Michael but I don’t know if he feels his future is elsewhere,” said Powell.

“He is an all-round midfielder with good passing and is a decent tackler. Michael’s been brilliant - he knows the game and has got that bit of experience.”
