  • Was highly thought of at Hearts, would be a good signing if he's fit

Highly rated at Hibs aswell but had injury problems, decent player and could be what we need.

Read a few of the articles relating to Stewart on the skylink. Says he was on a lucrative contract at United around 2003 when he was spoken highly of by Rangers manager Alex McLeish, despite them not taking him on.

Had a few loans and injuries but must have good ability.

Read that as Marcus Stewart at first.

Midfielder (just checked). Don't know any more than that.

Ex-Man Utd means very little, especially considering he's 30.
  • Alec's dad. Played for us a couple of times years ago. Great fielder.
  • Was supposed to be the next big thing whilst at Man Ure. Remembering refusing a loan ti Antwerp at the same time that John O'Shea went there.

Got slated whilst on loan at Forest.

Flopped during first spell at Hearts. Seemed to do well in his second spell there.

Hasnt played for a while so fitness could be iffy.
  • when fit is very good on the ball and composed from what i can remember from him but all i can say is that the lad is very prone to injuries, is a gamble that hopefully will pay off
  • Wiki:

    "Leeds United Trial

Sky Sports reported on 6 February that Stewart had been given a one week trial with Championship club Leeds United.
This was subsequently confirmed by the club the following day, in which he played part in a training ground friendly match against York City. After impressing during his initial trial spell, Stewarts trial period was extended at Leeds"

So Leeds decided against signing him?
  • let's hope he is luckier than Leon McKenzie!

Seen a vid of him going mental in the tunnel at Hearts I think. Nothing more to add.

  • Jeff V's influence starting to pay dividends?
  • Probably a decent player at League One level, bnot sure if he's good enough for anything above.

I say we offer him a deal till the end of the season, most likely a better player than McCormack anyway. No harm done
  • prefer Rod Stewart ...least he can entertain
  • Kind of midfield meanie we need I think, he plays the game at the right tempo and gets stuck right in!

he's also better than anyone else we currently have in our midfield.
  • Would definitely take him if fitness is no issue as Rothko suggests - deal for the end of the season and see where we go from there
  • Seems as if fitness is the question mark. We have to assume that with so many experienced football people now around the Club, we will avoid anyone who is injury prone. Lets wait and see.

How often have you seen him play then?
  • Funny enough was a player I thought might work for us back in the prem days. Lots of injuries. I see him as being a bit Jackson like. Classy at this level, but not the quickest so he can get marked out of games, but undoubtedly that creative midfielder we've all been asking for.

    Not known for his loyalty.
  • What is there to lose ?

As a free agent this does not use up a loan and it is almost the equivalent of a player ending his contract . Who knows if Racon or Semedo will be here next season or even Jackson if the Brighton rumour is to be believed .

The ex Man U connection would show that he was mentored in the right way even if his career has not hit the same heights since.
  • Has shown flashes of real ability in Scotland (I think Hears also made him team captain for a year – leadership ability ?) but those flashes have always been interrupted by injury. If he’s in decent shape now (he can’t be too far off having trained with Leeds up until last month) then he’d definitely be worth a pay as you play deal which I think he would be agreeable to.

    Not known for his loyalty.

Why do you say that ? If it’s based on him playing for Hibs and Hearts it’s not as uncommon as playing for, say, Celtic and Rangers. Probably more akin to playing for Charlton and Palace (which has happened alot recently) and probably more down to locality than disloyalty.

  • I saw him play in Scotland several times and he is a hard, dirty bastard.......exactly what we need in midfield.

If we sign him his first job should be to scare McCormack away!
  • Went on loan to Hearts then signed on a free for Hibs, then ran his contract down and switched back between the two amid stories of unrest amongst the Hibs squad and their treatment of John Collins. He's the only player in something like a century to do this, actually.

What does it matter to you? I'm actually a jock and follow the SPL, so numerous times.

  • Be cool Jamie, be cool.

Are you joking ? In the last hundred years many, many players have played for both clubs, and there’s probably a few examples of switching straight from one to the other. Also I’m pretty sure Hibs released him, which has different connotations to running down your contract – that was more an indication of the complete mess that Hibs managed to get themselves into a couple of seasons ago.
  • How did you find that photo of me?
I thought it was in the attic along with my NWA record collection and my Beano comics...

OK fella, wind your neck in, I asked the question because so many on here say "this player is this" and "this player is that" and they have never seen them kick a ball, so when the "mega star" actually takes to the pitch he is crap.

If you have seen him and rate him thas good enough for me, no harm in asking is there.
  • It cant do any harm getting him on a contract until the end of the season. It will give us a very good idea what the guy is about and may even get a place in the squad for next season.
