[cite]Posted By: Mortimerician[/cite]Went on loan to Hearts then signed on a free for Hibs, then ran his contract down and switched back between the two amid stories of unrest amongst the Hibs squad and their treatment of John Collins. He's the only player in something like a century to do this, actually.
Are you joking ? In the last hundred years many, many players have played for both clubs, and there’s probably a few examples of switching straight from one to the other. Also I’m pretty sure Hibs released him, which has different connotations to running down your contract – that was more an indication of the complete mess that Hibs managed to get themselves into a couple of seasons ago.

Ah right, he was only on loan at Hearts initially though (from United) and then he had to find a new club in the summer when they let him go, which is when he signed for Hibs. Hibs then told him he didn't have a future at the club (rather than he "ran down" his contract) and told him to find a new employer, which is when he went to Hearts - so not as bad as it sounds, and I wouldn't really say he'd been dis-loyal. I highly doubt Hearts would have made him captain if he had been considered disloyal to them.
[cite]Posted By: Robert[/cite]Who cares if was at hearts then went to hibs and then went back again?
Because it's relevant to a player Charlton are looking to sign ?

Well Hearts didn't cancelled his contract before the end of the season that he was captain, so it wasn't necessarily an unqualified success.
I speak from memory of events at the time, rather than directly from the Wiki, as most of my mates are Hibs fans. He was involved in a player revolution against John Collins and was reported to want a lot of money hence Hibs "telling him he didn't have a future" as the Wiki puts it. He then chose to go to their biggest rival. Which is fair enough I guess.
I know a fair bit about the player and was just trying to give an opinion based on a bit of actual knowledge. I'm not trying to be the profit of doom or anything, but equally I think fans of both sides would see him as a good player, but not one that they hold in any great esteem. I'll say he's a top bloke and will be an asset if that's what you want?
However, in reality, he also didn't go to Hearts after a successful loan and they wanted him, and instead signed for their biggest rivals. Again fair enough, but if he does well for us on a short term deal then nobody ought to be surprised if he opts to jump ship if a better offer comes up. Also, having had his last two contracts cancelled by mutual consent and having failed to kick a ball for his last club (or for anyone for the thick end of two seasons) I'd not be completely shocked if he doesn't really work out.

Fair enough, I didn't get the info from Wiki (just had a look though, interesting stuff). I lived on just off of Pilrig, just down from Easter Road during the time that Stewart was there. If your mates are Hibs fans that probably explains it, I think he's held in higher esteem by Hearts (who I preferred when living in Edinburgh) fans !!!
bessone has played for us twice , so i really think any sort of opinion on him is a little bit early
i know when colchester asked leeds about him doing their homework before they played us the reports back from leeds weren't favourable towards his ability and thats putting it politely!

why would Leeds loan out a player - and then tell anyone who is interested "Oh him, he's shit. Nothing to worry about when you play him"
Interesting. Clearly the management team do believe the central midfield needs improving then, with him and Parrett that's 2 new CMs within a few weeks.
Well if he tries thats a start,if he can pass five yards thats even better and he may have been told play for a contract, unlike the current midfield who are desperate not to get hurt in case they bugger up their chances of getting another club bye bye Racon, bye bye oxo, bye bye reid you're place in the hall of shame is secured.

I think it's the fact that he went from Hearts to Hibs, and then back to Hearts. Wiki says he's the only player since the Second World War to do that.
1) Is he fit?
2) Can he do the job for us?
3) Does he want to play for us?

you what ? Been very good when he has played, naturally left-footed and looking to the future a better bet for LB than Jenks.

(sorry about the spelling mistake) Just so angry at the moment I cant see myself going again this season and I am a season ticket holder.
That's right cheer everybody up why don't you
''Better off with Rod Stewart''
Hibs fan I know thought he was "the tits"
so hopefully everyone's expectations are levelled out now
He probably said he was a tit and you heard what you wanted.
