Exactly If you dont thank him then fine but leave this one thread to those that do

afka - sorry you feel the way you do - however, ypur efforts ARE appreciated

large - were you born with those diplomatic skills or have you had training?
  • Should of been given til the end of his contract / season especially considering our current position. Thank you Parky / Breaker and Kins.

I would like to thank Parky for keeping us in contention for promotion in this league despite having to sell off his best players and conjure up a team with hardly any resources for two seasons. I'd like to thank him for the comeback after the home game against Brighton and I am sorry that could not be sustained, and also for behaving decently in a business full of self-promoting, arrogant arseholes.
  • PLEASE can't you all kiss and make up !!!! This is getting so boring !

Putting in my pennorth for what it's worth, as I posted on another thread, I've supported Parky throughout his tenure at our Club , as I have previous managers. That's what I do.

However, having witnessed the past half dozen matches both home & away, I reluctantly feel the time is right for him to visit new pastures where he can start again ...maybe nearer to home & his family. Harsh but if I'm beginning to question whether to travel to Hartlepool on a cold Tues night , then I'm sure others too were questioning their commitment to the style of football & depressing performances we've witnessed of late. Without support, this Club dies. End of.

So , I'd like to wish Phil, Kins and Tim all the very best in the future and thank them for the efforts they made whilst at Charlton. May 2011 be a good year for them all.

Oh and I WAS looking forward to sitting with Phil at the Shirt Sponsors' dinner.....Wonder who might be my dining companion come April ?
  • I think he did a good job - the squad was horribly unbalanced when he first took over and after relegation he had to sell his assets and rebuild. Under these difficult circumstances, I think he can be proud of his achievments. I remember with this season looming worrying that we wouldn't have a team to put out, let alone one which could challenge but he pulled the rabbits out of the bag when required. I think the team is lacking in movement up front which costs us at the Valley (especially against lower teams) as teams crowd the final third. I don't blame Parky for this and think it would have been nice if he was given a few quid to rectify rather than sack him. If we get a decent manager in, who is modestly backed in the transfer market, he wont have to do much IMO to make us real challengers and that ultimately is credit to Parky.

  • Muttley - if this thread were to end now then your comment sums up to perfection the views of those of us who liked and respected Parky.

no, just that some personal comments that a few posters have made over the last two days have got to me.

I know it's off thread but I can't be arsed to start a new one. Why is it assumed that those who thought him a bad Manager also disliked him and disrespected him ?
Why are those that thought him out of his depth and a poor Manager called 'Parky Haters' ?

The guy has gone now. You can, of course, post wherever you want. However, I think that the view is that this thread is for those who want to say goodbye and thank you to Parky. If people still want to kick his still warm corpse there are plenty of other places to do so.
In a day or so we will have moved on from the issue of Parky and be considering his replacement. That fills me with trepidation because some of the names mentioned are horror stories.
  • I respected and liked him. I believed given proper money to spend he would have taken us back to the championship at least.

I am very dissapointed and I believe this is my first post on the matter since he was sacked so bear with me if i am only echoing what has been said.

Parkinson came in at a difficult time and should probably have been sacked when he failed to win any games from being appointed as caretaker manager to his full appointment. Then again when he failed to keep us up. When he stayed though he led us to the play offs last year and then had to sell any quality from our squad and this year he had us in the play offs again.

Harsh excuse not winning since November but I expected him to be sacked as with new owners come big shake ups.

Dissapointed but in order to go upwards you must go onwards. We are now owned by others who obviously think they can afford better so fingers crossed, they dont mess this up.

Thank you Phil Parkinson and the absolute best of luck.

  • Phil. thanks to you and your backroom team for doing your best on limited resources. In retrospect you did pretty well after the disasterous period following Pardew. After all, we nearly got to Wembley. Really appreciate your honest demeanour. You built a team of contenders out of free signings, which will be noticed by other chairman. I hope you get a decent club and succeed. You'll get a clap from me when you next visit the Valley.
