Thank You Parky

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
Took over a sinking ship when Pardew went imo, had very little to spend until this summer and has created a squad which lost on a play off final by a spot kick last season and are now 3 points from automatics and we seem to have a basis of a good squad again. Most people on here in the pre seaosn prediction thread probably expected mid table.

Unfortunately performances haven't been that convincing though, hopefully he'll go on and be a success somewhere else and I wish him all the best.

  • yeah i can only echo those sentiments. Seems a nice guy, perhaps charlton and him were never the right match.
  • I second everything you said. Think he's done a brilliant job. Yes, results haven't gone our way as of late but we're still up there. I'm more than happy with out position but most aren't.

    Cheers Parky.
  • Agree with all of that.

    All the best parky!
  • Same from me......

Nice guy,its obviously results or else from now on.....
  • Yes. Nice guy, perhaps a bit unlucky to be in charge during a time of calamitous decline.
  • Thanks Phil, I think you have done great job with what you have had to work with and i am not sure we have made the right choice. good luck
  • I wish him well as I'm a gentleman, but he was one of the worst managers we've ever had - apart from Dowie.
  • Has left us in the play-offs with a squad that just needs a handful of good signings. When he took over we were near the relegation zone, squad was a mess which desperately needed a clearout. He couldn't quite take us up last season but has left the new manager with a squad he can work with and add to. Good luck to him.
  • Hope all the best for him with his next job

  • Glad someone has started this thread. Thank you Parky for all your efforts, so close to success with a little bit more luck or cash it would have worked.
Sure elsewhere you will be successful good luck and thanks

worst managers we've ever had? thats nonsense.

Than you must be very young.
  • thought he did well assembling a squad from nothing over the summer and players like Jackson, Reid, Dailly, Doc aren't bad players...........unfortunately IMHO Benson, Abott, Francis & MacCormack are and the final nail in the coffin was the chasing of Benson for over a month, ultimataly spending over £200k on him and then not playing him to his alledged strengths.

Overall - 5/10 Tried hard but the task was to great for him
  • manager of the month in november to jobless in the first week of january. he hasnt had enough credit with what he has had. the new board have taken the wrong decision. good luck parky in whatever you do next.
  • Agreed Hampshire Addick, expectations have been entirely out of line with the reality of where we've been as a club. Just when it looks we have a chance to build a stronger team we sack a manager who spent the club's money like his own.
  • I don't think they have made the wrong decision. He can't motivate the team. They are playing badly and he can't change things around.

I liked Parkinson and wished he had been successful for us, but i think his doom was sealed when he said yesterday that the team was feeling sorry for themselves at half time and he couldn't get them out of that state of mind. Thats what he is supposed to do. Gee them up and motivate when the going gets tough.

Good luck Parky, i don't bear you any ill will, except when you manage a team against us obviously. But we need someone with some bite in this club in charge. Who i have no idea.
  • Proper Charlton man who did all that could reasonably be done in adverse circumstances.

Unfortunately damned by association with Pardew which meant every error was microscopically analysed whilst anything half good was greeted with grudging silence as the vultures shifted uneasily in their seats.

Enjoy the day because when we are even lower in the table in a month or so and the "fans" are still booing at The Valley those same vultures will be posting for the new man to go.
  • Gutted that he has gone as i still think he is a good Manager. However, last night i just thought that even if he got us promoted there are some fans who would have never got off his back and it was really effecting the players.

I've got a book at home called 'The rise and rise of Chalrton Athletic'. In it the author talks about how we had gotten to the Premiership by doing things the right way, the Charlton way. Can't even look at it these days, Premiership is a distant memory and doing things the 'Charlton Way'... well lets justb say it definitly doesn't mean doing things the right way.

The way some of the people who attend our games (i can't call them fans) have acted this seaqson has been an absoloute disgrace and i would argue has had much more of an infleunce on our current standing than Parky did.

Now that Parky has gone, why don't they do the rest of us a favour and F8ck off as well!
  • Poplcon -
The man had no ambition at all other than not to lose and to be safe, just listen his comments after the game last night. Also if listen to someone that knows him well (from their Reading and Charlton) days - his long time friend and mentor Parkinson said about him when Southampton Manager - Pardew said its easy to out think him and he's a good No2. Anyway I dont want to get into a debate about Parkinson, he's gone and quite frankly I believe it's the 2nd most positive news of the year for Charlton after the new owners.

  • Thank you Parky for all your hard work, really wished you was the man to make big progress but wasn't to be!

Wish you all the best for the future!
  • Cheers Parky you did very well with a budget of bollock all.

    Good luck for the future.
  • The "Wise" Addict, there's enough other threads slating the man, have the decency to leave your negativity out of this one.
  • Whatever his merits or faults as a manager (and last night the latter seemed very high), he appears to be a very nice man, giving up his time generously. To me he seemed to fit in with the club's image.
  • I wish to say thanks aswell.
Tried his best and a very genuine person. I cannot see how you can say he didn't have ambition, because his hands were tied to a far higher degree than I think many realise.
Very few of the singings he made are bad players, Francis and Docherty for example were very good at this level for other clubs.

Sadly he was unable to manage this team to anywhere near the best of there ability in most games, especially at home, where we need the crowd behind the team. I hope finally going to the Valley will be enjoyable again as a fan.
  • Agree with Jints word for word. Good luck Parky.
  • I wish Parky all the best for the future, no-one could have done better with the circumstances and finances.

I hope he finds gainful employment very soon and can hold his head high, he could not have done more with what he had to work with.
  • Best of luck Parky, you deserved much better treatment from our new board over the last few days, and from a large number of our supporters over the last two and a half years. I appreciated your efforts.

Well, it often appeared to inhibit the team's performance at The Valley, if that's what you mean.

[cite]Posted By: dylanthedog[/cite]we sack a manager who spent the club's money like his own.
Didn't Parky put his hand in his own pocket to pay a loan player's wages for a month, as reported on here?

That's going beyond the call of duty. What a fantastic gesture towards the club.

[cite]Posted By: addick1965[/cite]Cheers Parky you did very well with a budget of bollock all.

    Good luck for the future.

    And I'll second that.
  • all the best parky!! u deserved at least to the end of the season
