Thanks to Parky, he did a reasonable job with very little to spend.
In this era of the blame culture some people feel the need to take everything that has happened to our club of the last few years very personally and seem to think it is ok to abuse all and sundry either on this site or at The Valley with a torrent of abuse.
In the summer the doom mongers had us believe that we would be lucky to stay up. well he has done better than that and it was only 5 weeks ago that Parky won Manager of The Month.
So for keeping a level head while many around you lost theirs then I salute you and wish you well in the future .

Find it incredible how few people either seem to have so little decency when it comes to community etiquette, or so selfish they really just don't give a shit about anything other than themselves.
That pretty much sums up the internet for me, well said.
AFKA - it really saddened me to read your post. You've made your feelings pretty clear over the last few weeks, and many of us share your sentiment. But I for one would like to thank you for your efforts as much as I do Parky! I implore you to keep your chin up. There are peaks and troughs, and we will hit a peak again, and like in '98, we'll get a lump in our throats when we think about what we went through in the previous 15-20 years. Please do realise those of us on your side massively appreciate your efforts. You haven't wasted a second.
That all said, as I read many of the comments, and began to realise that we have become the kind of club I used to pity, I felt a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. Wise? Really? For many of us the prospect is completely... i can't even find the words.
I echo all the pro-Parky comments. I don't think any of us can over state what he did for us.
[cite]Posted By: Uncle[/cite]When i first started coming here (no not that long ago but it doesn't make my argument any less valid)
I disagree with that statement more than/ because of the rest of what you said. Hot air. Nonsense. You claimed Parkinson copied opponents' tactics because they beat us. That's your perception, but doesn't make it remotely true.
[cite]Posted By: Uncle[/cite]The fact is he's sucked the football out of this club.
No he hasn't. We don't play excessively long balls any more or less than any club at our level would be expected to. If anyone sucked anything out of Charlton, it was the fans sucking the life out of The Valley. Specifically, the fans we picked up in the Premier years. The boo-ers and haters. We used to be worth more than the sum of our parts, but the decline in passion at The Valley stopped it being a fortress, and the players we have don't feel that sense of belonging they should. Our fans have made it a place where our players feel immense pressure if they don't take an early lead. That's far more powerful than Parkinson's half time pep talks.
P.S. Just saw our fan on Sports News saying he hopes we'll get Phil Brown or Brian Laws. Jesus. Fukcing. Wept.
Jimmy not to sure what your little rant was all about, maybe if you are going to quote try and do it properly. It makes it very difficult to understand the point you are trying to make. If there is one at all.
P.S Can we keep the swearing to a minimum it shows a lack of respect to other posters
good luck parky and co, all good men and i'm sure they won't be out of work for very long.sorry it hasn't worked out but i appreciate the hard effort that you've all put in.
Top post Jimmy, expectations have gotten way out of hand at The Valley in recent years.
We sold our most of our midfield from last season (Bailey, Sam, Shelvey) and started pre-season with one striker, Akpo Sodje, and yet people expect us to be playing champagne football and winning every game.
I've posted this elsewhere but I'll stick it here it case any of my detractors accuse me of lacking the class that they undoubtably havnt got. I would like to take this opportunity of wishing Parky, Kins and Breacker all the best for the future. I have always been of the opinion that he wasn't the right man for the job but he tried his best in difficult circumstances and it is always disappointing when anyone loses their jobs so I wish them all well and a quick return to football. I won't be as two faced though to thank him because frankly I've nothing to thank him for.
I was one calling out for Parky to go. He was in a tough situation with no money to spend and nearly got us promoted last year. I saw 2 games over here last season on TV versus Norwich and Leeds where we played some good stuff. However we lost some important players and this season was going to be a challenge. I saw the Orient game where we played OK and the Luton game where I thought we were shocking but still won. I've listened to the games on CAFC player and reports from my bro and yes he is working with a less talented pool of players but that is no excuse for the lack of figting spirit of the players he put out and the lack of tactical nous. It was the right time to go and I thank him for all he has done but we must push on and a clean sweep was needed. Please let it be Curbs but would take Poyet or Hughton.
With hardly any money you almost made it last year and this year has been an even bigger struggle and we are still in the mix...
For me it is all about success, it is all about getting up the table and into the championship and that sniff, that chance of the big time.. we are long overdue some success, so much so that when / if we do ever make it out of this league it will feel like a lottery win....
However there is alos the chance that this change goes wrong for us, dennis wise does not inspire confidence in me in the slightest, we need someone who knows his salt... Steve Clarke is a good shout for me, poyet wont come here, curbs wont come here... but wise, for me, sees out chances of promotion gone...
Overall, it probably is time to get rid of Parky, although we will never know what he could have done with some money behind him...
Either way thanks Parks and all the very best for the future, you undoubtedly gave it your all..
In some ways, Parky cuts a sympathetic figure. He never was going to get the crowd's backing, having come with the odious Pardew and being made "permanent" manager after a failed caretaker spell (no wins in 8 matches, when it was "all about results," said D.Chappel), followed by the worst spell in club history and then relegation.
He was a mediocre manager, at best. He lacked tactical sense and was an inconsistent man-manager. But he was also a likeable man who earned the respect of those inside the club, thankfully being a different 'character' than Pardew.
His biggest strength may have been that the players liked him. But recently they stopped playing for him. Once he no longer had his best asset working for him, there was little reason to retain him given the recent direction of performances and results.
If the club could have afforded to sack him, he would have been gone a long time ago. Financial circumstances kept him in a job a lot longer than his job performance deserved. That wasn't his fault, and he tried his best.
If his best wasn't deemed good enough to get the club out of this Godforsaken division, then it was surely time for him to go.

Why post that?
I was suprised that some people couldn't keep this thread for showing some respect, I guess I should've known better
Cheers Parky, really enjoyed last season, should have gone up, the difference Holt, Beckford and Morrison. This season we have a poor squad so really we're probably punching above our weight, do we honestly have better players than Swindon? I don't think so. Can't say I enjoyed the other night but with our squad there will always be games like that.
If the new guys can guarantee success then great decision, but of course they can't and if it's Dennis Wise, I won't be thrilled. It will be a job for their mate rather than right man for the job. Think Parky deserved the chance to "buy" some decent players and put them in the mix.

Firstly, can't you learn how to quote properly. Secondly, I'll post and comment where I like. Thirdly, sod off. After your comments yesterday I'm going to afford you the respect you deserve, none.
Wow a thank you parky thread turns into some nasty ramblings which have been posted tenfold elsewhere.
Thanks phil for everything you tried. I'm sorry that he received such bile from certain quarter of our fans, you tried your best but obviously that wasn't good enough in the end. All the best to all three of them.
The point of a forum is to get different points of view (but hopefully without being rude to each other).
You cannot open a thread and say that opposing views are not allowed, why would you think that is okay?
On the opposing threads, the so called 'Parky hate' (which is utterly ridiculous), there ARE opposing views and not one person telling them not to post on there as it doen't fall into line with the majority view.
Because its a thanks parky thread and surely people should respect that. There are plenty other threads to vent your spleen about his failings. Why do people have to spoil this one.
People are just disrespectful the way they speak about other people, knowing full well those people could well be reading. The way of society today i suppose. Sad.

Why should this thread be any different?
Because the people who own and run the site said so maybe?

Yes, but so what?
If people do not agree that he deserves any thanks then, by the same token, why should they not be allowed to say so and challenge the opinions of others. Are you really that sensitive that you cannot engage with somebody elses opinion without feeling angry or sad about it?
I'm a bit of a sensitive soul yes and i think there is enough written about Parky in other threads as i have already stated. This was entitled Thank you Parky and we are often told to keep to topic. So thats what i'm trying to do sunshine but you keep taking us off topic.
I like to think of the "thank you" threads as virtual leaving cards. If you've got something nice to say, then say it. If you haven't, then just sign your name. If you can't even bring yourself to do that, then go off and make a cup of tea as the card comes past your desk (or in this world, ignore the thread). I hope no-one wrote comments like some of the above in leaving cards for anyone on here...

Very well put.
Thanks Parky, there were some things you got right, others he got wrong, but I respect that he tried and gave a damn.
We sold our most of our midfield from last season (Bailey, Sam, Shelvey) and started pre-season with one striker, Akpo Sodje, and yet people expect us to be playing champagne football and winning every game.
Not a surprise, clearly, but don't worry mate, it's not you I'm interested in getting through to.

Fully agree with his sentiments.
