  • [cite]Posted By: Harry Gregory[/cite]i want him to do so well because if he does well so do my team. But I do not believe he is up to it and today has only enhanced my opinion. We won today despite Parky not because of him. But I want to be proved wrong.

That's pretty much my feelings. I'm far from convinced that he is a good manager (not convinced that he's a bad manager either) but the only thing I care about is Charlton winning games.
  • [cite]Posted By: Floyd Montana[/cite]why when Carlisle pulled it back to 3-2 didn't he bring on a sub or two and freshen up the defence or midfield?

Thought he won it his way, without following your route?

True, but if his gameplan was to score three goals, then concede three before getting a 93rd minute winner then his tactics worked perfectly.

In the real world we appeared to be under a lot of pressure after conceding two quick goals so I'd have expected him to have done something tactically to give the team a bit of respite. On the bench we had two defenders in Mambo and Fortune and a defensive midfielder in McCormack who got a few seconds at the fag end of the match. Perhaps bringing one of those on earlier might have stalled the game at 3-2?

"We wont today despite Parky", really?

It's his squad, he chose the line up, formation, tactics etc today, he did the team talks and chose the substitutions.

He could have easily panicked after the Brighton game and switched to a 4-5-1/3-5-2 etc. Several players he could have dropped, kept in the team, or put back in the team. He stuck with his beliefs that we can get results playing 4-4-2.

In the end the decisions he made resulted in us winning the game. A few different decisions might have made things better or worse, but in the end we got the 3 points.

It's now purely his squad, when we don't get a good result there will be things he could have done better. Just as when we do win there are choices he should get credit for.

quote Perhaps bringing one of those on earlier might have stalled the game at 3-2?

    As you say perhaps.
But as it was it was a game we undoubtedly DID win 4-3 with the strikers on, so I really cant see the point of your beef with Parky.

Also those who went have explained elsewhere that the prime reason for the two quick goals was the referee, as opposed to some dream-world manager issue.

but I realise this doesnt fit the script.
  • Seems to be Elliot's fault more than the referees from what I've read (gonna find out in a wee while on the shitball league show) but I think it's the fact that the defence is constantly making such silly mistakes is what is worrying people, every defence makes mistakes, but the way our defence is playing we'll be shipping goals left right and centre, if Parky can sort that then he'll have made a big stride in improving the team.
  • Yes, Ive seen those comments too Siblers. Time for a rest (or more exactly a lot of fitness training) for Rob!
Either way, blaming Parky just looks some people look nasty and vindictive

PS dont think you will get a full picture from that show - bet they dont even show the disallowed goals!
  • Just listened to Parky interview who said the ref gave them every decision for 20 mins, and that we were playing ''the 12 men Carlisle had with the referee''
  • Hmm. Those of you blaming him for conceding 3 goals (terrible, ridiculous, I agree): Do you think Parkinson should do a bit more running around and kicking the ball? Or do you think some of the players he has in defence because he can't get / afford any better might bear some of the responsibility?
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: Floyd Montana[/cite]He should still go, any manager who lets a 3 goal lead go is not good enough.

So Alex Ferguson nearly lost his job last week?

    Behave
Bounced back from a heavy defeat, score early in second half, triumphed in the last minute, just like great teams make a habit of doing, scored twice as many goals than all the other teams this season combined and in touch with the third division play off spots with a third division team, budget (albeit with a debt still to pay off that others dont have) and manager.[/quote]

Why compare parky to fergie, you know and I know parky is not up to the job. If fergie had been managing utd like parky manages charlton. he would not be there. What a ridiculous arguement. Money has nothing to do with when you are 3 up at halftime you change it around to a defensive formation maybe 451 and make the oppo work. Not just hope for the best! That is why parky should go, this result is a reprieve that's all!
  • Hope for the best? We came out and scored a third. We were 2-0 up at half time.

If we had gone 4-5-1 at half time, Parky would be accussed of "never learning, trying to hold onto a lead for 45 minutes". If he had done that we might have not scored the third goal either.

  • [cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]He's bought himself another week at least.

I wasn't there, but given the way we crumbled and threw a 3-0 lead away I'd suggest that there is still a lack of confidence in the team and why when Carlisle pulled it back to 3-2 didn't he bring on a sub or two and freshen up the defence or midfield?
You're right. No team should ever throw away a three-goal lead. Especially in an important match. It can't ever have happened before.

Except the 2005 Champions League Final. And no-one ever heard of Milan's manager after that, did they?

Elliot was to blame for the 3 goal lead being destroyed! Parkinson's hardly going to take him off after 1 or 2 and replace him, just not a thing a manager does, and that would **** up Elliots confidence! But i am also a fan of letting Parky go, BUT the team showed real promise winning away 4-3! the changes he made worked didnt they? enjoy it and lets just hope this was not a one off and we also get a great result/performance on saturday!!! COYR!!!.... and if we do.. i will give Parky all the credit!

    Agree with that.
  • From what I've read, the most positive change PP made was to start Waggy. Would Waggy have started if Reid had been fit? Did PP engineer that squad or stumble upon it?

Who knows? But more likely that, if Reid was fit, Fry wouldn't have started.
