  • I was watching the sky football in the pub this afternoon.I live in Scotland so I couldnt make the game.We were shite from start to finish.A rubbish team in a rubbish league has done us 4-0 .Time for change. Also watching that talentless plank on sky sports dowie Im boiling now.
  • Today was the first of 5 very tough games and we failed abysmally, I wonder if we can get a point let alone what I would call success which would be nine out of the fifteen.

I beleive in Parkinson and I want him to succeed,if you like I am a parkinson apologist, but if we getanything less than 9 points then Phil willhave to go, but in doing so don't expect a Di Canio or a Southgate, it will be a young hopeful or an ageing journey man.
  • Ironic really - on the day that the first team provide us with a performance that was frankly embarrassing, the Under 18's beat Arsenal 3.1 at London Colney and, by all acounts, it could have been much more. Maybe there is hope for the future!

Hmm... ageing journey man - I thought we had a few of those as players and I hoped that they would get us out of this league - doesn't look like they will.
  • Paul we sold our best youth product for years in Shelvey because he didnt fit into the managers plans so i wont hold my breath.

No, we sold him cos we needed the money.
  • I've had enough and will not go again until Parkinson has gone. Today was the straw that broke the camel's back. The Mrs and the kids don't want to go again. It's heartbreaking to witness that shite.

yes but largely because he wasnt featuring in the managers plans and PP said he wasnt needed wasnt it?
  • No, because he was our most saleable asset. Even if he'd been playing every week we still would have sold him.

I started watching CAFC in the old third division. I would like to see Parky resign, but if we are all honest, he will not walk away from £3000 A WEEK. We were very poor today, and have only managed to put in half decent performances for 45 mins per game. Parky has brought in the players he wanted with very litle budget, but they are not performing for him, so Mr Murray needs to make a decision very soon
  • Crunch date : Nov 20, at home to Yeovil, two years to the very weekend after Pardew was sacked .

There are four other league games before then, against toughish opponents. But if we lose to Yeovil and if we're on anything less than 23 points by 4.55pm that day, I think Parkinson will be history.
  • Can we really wait until Nov 20

    Before that:

    Carlisle A
    Sheffield Wednesday H
    Swindon A
    FA CUP ROUND 1 H/A
    Southend A (JPT)
    Peterborough A

By Yeovil we may well be out of all three cup competitions and knee-deep in mediocrity in the league, or worse
  • I am so proud that a fat prick who knows fuck all about football appeoached Parky.
  • Can't say I'm really surprised by today. It's been on the cards. What I've read tonight has all been said before but has gained momentum. I can't see how PP can come back from that, but then again I couldn't see how he got the job after a disasterous caretaker spell. More than anything I'm just plain sad to see just how bad things are down at the Valley.
  • When is the anniversary of Northwich?
  • FFS if teams are going to play the diamond when you don't expect it what do you people expect. Give him another 4 or 5 seasons to get us down to his level and we'll be fine and then all the "realsts" will go quiet.
  • I was never in favour of Parkinson getting the job in the first place, I was really angry when he got a contract extension when it wasn't necessary and now I want him out.

    My choice for new boss....

    Chrissy Powell or Paul Ince

That's quite possibly right, ISaw. It's a big call for Richard Murray and if he is going to make it all, I agree that sooner rather than later would probably be better.

But I was trying to think of the most likely scenario. I'm pretty sure RM will not be spending this Sunday ringing up other potential managers. He won't sack Parky while we are three points off a play-off place (even though those three points might as well be 30 given the way we are playing) and he will still be trying to convince himself that his manager's oft-repeated promises that we will get better can be delivered.

But he must have in his head a scenario where he accepts it cannot go on like this any longer. That means it will probably have to get worse before there is a chance of any movement on the managerial front and my best guess is that if we have slipped further by Nov 20 v Yeovil, that's the sort of timetable RM might have in mind. And it will be two years to the week from when PP first took over as caretaker.
  • It's time for a new manager - since Parky was appointed we've slid slowly downwards - relegation, then a good start last season followed by teams sussing us out and being ko'd in the play-offs to a more astute Swindon. Yesterday was the same, a team that man-for-man was no better than ours, yet played with a purpose and direction.

Who replaces Parky is the question, but shouldn't be a hindrance. I hope after the Pardew/Dowie fiasco that Muzzer has learnt and has a replacement lined up already.

FTR the manager I'd like is Gus Poyet, not just a reaction to yesterday's defeat, but he's clearly organised in his thinking and the players seemed to be playing for him. We in contrast huffed and puffed, but it felt like watching a group of guys thrown together without much thought as to how the pieces would fit together.

  • Listening to the hubbub of views as I trudged from the Valley, there seemed to be a mainstream view which was basically 'He's gone, Murray can't keep him now'. The difficulty is, as IA explained, that RM can, and probably will keep him for the time being. I still can't quite believe that so many in the West Stand were cheering and applauding the podgy protestor. The patience has undoubtedly run out, but will RM recognise that in time?
  • Its gonna be the same as when Pardew got sacked, we will lose to carlisle on Saturday then get battered by Sheffield Wednesday, everyone will then protest after the game, Parky will then get the sack the same night then Murray will appoint Kinsella or breaker in tempory charge based on results they will lose all 8 games, get given the job and eventually take us down, we will just scrape the playoffs in league 2 losing to the mighty Aldershot on penalties then the following season we will start off shockingly poor and this chain of events will happen every season for the rest of our lives.
  • Interesting post Nicholas and frighteningly possible too!
  • Having slept on yesterdays thoughts regarding PP I have now come to the conclusion that he won't be going anywhere. Murray likes and I believe still thinks that Parkinson is the right sort of manager for Charlton. In essence Richard Murray now not restrained or influenced by other major boardroom players still has faith that given time Parkinson will get things right and if that takes longer than this season then so be it. I think this is based upon a belief that stability and not another upheaval is what is required. What's more I believe PP knows this. As long as Charlton don't hit relegation places which I believe even this team won't then Parkinson is untouchable. I really hope that Mr. Murray is right but I fear that in trying to prove it the support will be split from top to bottom and will continue to dwindle. Death of a thousand cuts.
  • got to this thread late but agree with Rodders post #38.

Im sick and tired of our fans getting dug out by people when its endless shit served up on the pitch. lets get or priorities straight.

get rid of parkinson and his back room team and start a fresh. Di Canio please, someone the players will respect.

Parkinson stinks of McLaren with England, where he nicknames all the players and he's a mate.

I hope not. I think Parky has built a good squad. My own personal oppinnion is that Semedo and Racon do not set their stall out in the first half, play too deep and are too reactive. They don't bring in the wingers early and even if they do they are 10-20 yards too deep too often, to get moves starting with alacrity in dangerous areas.

Moments happen in a season when decisive action needs to be taken. I'd like to see Jackson in the middle of the park, with Fry at lb. I would never drop Semedo in this squad, unless he was woeful for a good few games. If Jackson doesn't come in that at least McCormack attempts to physically drive the game either offensively or defensively bein much more astute than Racon. Racon is a fancy player for playing against the shit teams at home, or for Summer or Spring when teams are not quite up to speed or suffering from injuries in their squad. Then I'll happily give a sod off wave to Racon at the end of the season.

Agree with that Kap but as Tavern says, yesterday was a bad day.

Losing 4-0 at home in division 3 is woeful.
  • One problem that I see is that some wishes of people are contradictory (and as I agree with most I admit mine are too.) The consensus is Parky is on the way out, or should be, and that a clean sweep is the way to go. Problem is that we can't do that until we have someone definitely in line for the job, like we did when Pardew replaced Reed the same day, as the 'best' person to take over would normally be the assistant, or even fitness coach etc. However they would all go too if the common view was the one that won over...
The way I see it if- and it's still a big if- Parkinson goes, it won't be for a week or so at least, purely down to neccessity.
  • I don't buy this we can't afford to get rid of him. How much do you think failure to get out of this shit division will really cost.

Someone needs to grow a pair bite the bullet and move on again. If not accept shite. And dwindling support.

This has gone on far to long and tbh I am fed up with it.
