How about Stevie Gritt, we always did okay, condsidering, when he was in joint charge wth Curbs and he had that near miracle spell with Brighton a few years back, or do we think he's not interested in management anymore?
As I've said before, I think we'd be throwing the baby out with the bath water if we sacked Parky now. I can't say I'm the least bit satisfied with performances like Saturday's and I'm not convinced I'm seeing much sign of things getting a whole lot better, but it's early days (for this season) and we're far from a lost cause so I don't see any great value in shuffling the pack yet again right now. If things aren't getting better in 5 to 10 games time then I may start to think differently.
I'm not really in a position to seriously discuss other managers strengths or weaknesses as I only ever see other sides once or twice a season at this level - i.e when they come to the Valley and if I go to the away game. If and when we do change manager though, FFS lets get someone in who genuinely believe is good football (not the "My teams play turgid, imaginationless, long ball dross" "My teams play fast attacking football" BS Pardew sold us). If we are going to be stuck in this piss-poor division for a couple more years, lets at least try and get out of it playing the way Doncaster and Swansea did - I haven't enjoyed watching the spectacle of Charlton since Di Canio left, regardless of results.
For me, the best bet is Steve Coppell (despite his Palace links)
After that I’d look at
Derek McInnes – has done a good job at St Johnstone, but I’m not sure he would see League One as a step down from the SPL, or if we could afford any compo
Tisdale – as above
Allen – He’d want to come I’d imagine, doubt he’d be on much – probably a better shout than Parkinson
Di Canio – Seriously ? He’s got passion but he knows nothing of the English lower leagues. Can you imagine day one when he asks who our top striker is and someone points to Benson ? He’d be on the first plane back to Rome and I wouldn’t blame him.
'Danny Wilson - we need a Manager with experience in my opinion - he's been around a long time, knows the division, Swindon can't be that attractive a place to be at, he used the loan system well last year and he was a decent midfield player who hopefully would be able to sort ours out.
Warnock, Pullis or Holloway may not be quite so keen to jump at a chance to join us but Wilson wouldn't be impossible i doubt if we do get to needing a new manager.
The other one i'd try for is Gary Johnson (at Peterborough ex Bristol City) for similar reasons.
Had enough of these young up and coming managers with their new Feng Shui ideas and motivational managerial bullshit speak who are full of themselves after luckily getting it right in their first job. Lets have some old school tried and tested managers who know what their doing and have done well for most of their careers.
Far too much talk on here of getting someone in with "passion", as if that is the most important quality in a manager - I've got bags of passion but I think it's a fair bet that I'd have us relegated to the Blue Square South within no time if I got the job!
There's dozens of failed managers knocking around who were clearly passionate but did't have any tactical nous to back it up with.
Certainly don't want any more ex-Palace scummers either, no matter how good their credentials are.
Parkinson's put together, on minimal resources, what appears on paper to be a team that should challenge at the top end of the table this season. We've had an average start to the season and are still right in touch with the top spots. If, after another 10 games when he's had something approaching a reasonable chance to show that he can get the best out of them, we're not looking like a promotion contender then maybe at that point we should consider getting rid. Until then he should be left to get on with it, ideally with some backing from the supporters rather than getting booed everytime we concede a corner.
If he does end up going, would be very happy with Martin Allen, my first choice to replace Curbs when he left.
We someone that plays football the correct way. Martinez proved you can do it at div 3 level. Sick and tired of watching the way Charlton are now playing. Allen and his ilk where passion and aggression are dinosaurs. Let's get in a continental who plays football the way god intended.

And Parky has bags of passion. It's probably the last thing he lacks.
I think Kinsella and Breaker would have to go as well but we could put them on gardening leave until their contracts run out, saving us an immediate pay-out. They might then walk in order to get back into football straight away.
I'm not sure foreign would be the way to go - Martinez was a success but he had the advantage of having played in the lower leagues of English football, it would be a steep learning curve for a foreign manager who was new to this level of English football.
Besides, you don't have to be foreign to set your team up to be a passing side - look at O'Drisscol (sp?) at Doncaster.
Anyone heard of Michael O'Neil here? He manages Shamrock Rovers in Ireland and has turned them from 7th in the league when he joined to second lat year and first at the moment with just a few games to go. Could be a new talent to bring in at only 41
Can't see us paying compensation to get a Howe or a Tisdale and I'm sure Howe definitely wouldn't come anyway.
I did want Di Canio when Parkinson got the job full time, obviously it is a huge risk but there aren't that many managers on the merry-go-round that I'd be particularly thrilled with. Di Matteo dropped down to League One to start his career so I wouldn't be surprised if Paolo would take the job despite his fairly big reputation.
I am completely against Ince taking the job, really don't think he has ever done that well. People clearly only want Martin Allen for passion and shouting on the sidelines as well, clearly not a great manager and there is a reason he's kept dropping down the leagues since he left Leicester.
I like Chris Coleman but I think he's more likely to get another shot in the Championship, depends how desperate he is to get back into management I suppose. Sticking on the Palace connection I don't mind Southgate either, seemed to get sacked when he was finally getting it right at Boro, he should be in a rush to get back into management at a lower level, I would be anyway after working with Adrian Chiles and Andy Townesend.
ValleyFred, if the new demand is entertaining football, then Michael O'Neill is not the man. At the very best, from all accounts I've heard, Shamrock Rovers are a solid counter-attacking side entirely dependent on their main striker. And they've benefitted off the field by getting a brand new stadium built for them along with an entirely new fanbase, and four of the top clubs two years ago (Derry, Cork, Drogheda and Bohemians) have either cheated or fallen into huge financial difficulty. Two of them were demoted last season, one will probably be relegated this season, and it's the waiting game for Bohemians...
I hadn't really heard a lot about him to be honest I just noticed that Shamrock had suddenly risen greatly and his wikipeida said it was mainly due to him.
Despite being in favour of Martin Allen, another manager who I think would be superb at The Valley is Steve Tilson. He worked wonders at Southend with little money and a very low budget. Last season things may have gone sour but Tilson could hardly be blamed for the financial situation whilst he had a good reputation of unearthing talent- Freddy Eastwood had his best spell at Southend, Lee Barnard, Nicky Bailey for example.
Tilson would be my choice, if he has not already got a job by then. Have not seen much sport news today but think Lincoln want Tilson. He can do better.
[cite]Posted By: supaclive[/cite]Gus Poyet. Norwich did it last year to Colchester and looked what happened! His son plays for us already too.
I WANT GUS!
He wouldn't come here, Brighton have a bit of money and a new ground being built. Norwich could afford £400k on Grant Holt and still had the money to pay compensation to Colchester (eventually, didn't they try and get him cheaply?)
A Brighton fan told me apparently Poyet doesn't want to manage his son as he'd be too hard on him. Maybe we could give Parky 20 years and eventually Diego Poyet will take over as manager?
Tilson has gone to Lincoln which is a pity but a name not too often mentioned is Paul Jewell. A mixed CV as it seems he has either done very well or quite poorly. Although to be fair, at Derby not sure many could have done better than him in the Premiership and when they went down, the losing mentality was there. Not sure if Jewell will get a better job offer than Charlton.
some good names thrown in with good reasoning behind. but maybe best to ignore this thread and just start another as it doesn't fit into the idea that we can't come up with a credible name, even if this was done just over a week ago.

shouting aswell
poor show by me

And if it all went wrong we could hold up those News of the World pictures at an opportune fixture!!
