we have to get lucky at some point... I know it took a long time between Jimmy seed and lennie and then we hit gold straight after and look at what happens glory....
[cite]Posted By: cafcdan18[/cite]Ok just got in, not in the best state for a proper debate but anyone who wants Martin Allen, I am in favour. Great character and very good manager imho.
Doubters- read the John Salako article in the Brentford programme about his season at Brentford under Allen!! Allen would sort us out. Fresh ideas, a little different/maverick and exactly what we need.
Dan
Precious little evidence he is a good manager so far.
The only 'success' was Brentford, and he walked out on them after only 2 years when he didnt get money they didnt have.
Has he even got one of his many teams promoted?
I said elsewhere that we still don't know where this season is heading. If we had won yesterday we would have gone third. As it is, we find ourselves only five points off a relegation place.
A good run of, say, eight points over the next four matches, would put us in a play-off place. A bad run of three or four deafeats could put us in the relegation zone. Carry on as we are with a point and a half per match, and come the end of the season we will be a dozen points short of the last play-off spot.
So I guess RM has to make a judgement call as to which of these three possible outcomes is the most likely. As we have been more or less told that this season is a case of 'promotion or bust', carrying on as we are with an average of 1.5 points per game is not acceptable.
With the stakes so high, if things are still not going for us (or ''not gelling'' which seems to have become the current code word for 'we are rubbish'), there is going to come a point where RM will have to throw caution to the wind and take a gamble on someone new coming in and hopefully saving our season.
Where and when that point comes is a hell of a tricky judgement and one I don't envy him if he has to make it.
If Parkitinson walks, we can probably just about afford a gamble on Costa or Di Canio. However, I fear he will do a Pardew and take the flak until we get hammered 5-0 before being pushed.

If I was parkie and I had the team after ten games just outside the promotion places, I would n't walk. If we do get that run of poor results and a declining league position then it maybe on the agenda. The difference between the position with Pardew and Parkie is that with Pardew we were near the bottom and sinking slowly, with Paarkie we are near the top but looking indiffernt
[cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]end of season if we are not promoted he goes and we get someone with some substance like martin allen.........enough now of this now.

Really do not want Kinsella, for me he will be the cheap option and will show the board have not learned from their mistakes by appointing within. It is evident if we are to change manager then we need a fresh face who will bring a whole new regime. Paul Jewell is not a bad shout, excellent jobs at Bradford and Wigan whilst the Derby fiasco was hardly down to him, although a year without a win is a terrible stat, they were a club in huge freefall.
As for Martin Allen- seem to remember he did very well at Barnet, was unlucky not to get Brentford promoted and generally did an excellent job there and the Leicester job was also a fiasco but more so because of Mandaric. The allegations which overshadowed the Cheltenham job were not proved. As for the footballing side of Cheltenham, they were a tiny club in League 1 where John Ward and the guy after him maybe Schofield had vastly overachieved, anyone would have struggled to keep them up whilst now they are about at their level. Therefore imho he is a very decent manager, his character is a little different to what we are used to- but is this a bad thing. He is very different personality wise to Parky and may inject the passion we have been missing.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this week was make or break for Parky and his gang. With probably three defeats coming up (including Sats. Brentford result) I can't see us beating MK in the paint job or Plymouth in the league.
When he does go (soon please) Kins and Breaker should go with him, they are all part of the same problem.
I for one would love to see Curbs back. Also I would love to see a role in the set up for Steve Brown just for his fire and enthusiasm alone. I was always impressed with his comments when part of the commentry team on the radio.Plus a third man being Sir Chris.
What a management team of fire and passion: Curbs,Brown and Powell. I know it's just a dream, but what a dream.
I know people will say we've got no money, but if something is not done soon we'll end up with nothing anyway.

Thanks for replying Dan
Lets ignore his association with Pardew at the start (and presumably influential period) of his managerial career. Even though many discount Kinsella because of his association with PP
Did very well at Barnet? He was only there for less than a year, presumably most of that time it was an inherited team, so no experience in scouting buying and formulating a team. Or getting them promoted. Why leave just before the end of a season when his inherited team could have gained automatic promotion? Clearly a question about his loyalty that he jumps ship so readily?
Brentford, an excellent job? Well possibly for the two years he bothered to hang around for before quitting. Two failed play offs, with very few of his own signings. Hmm.
Leicester - as you say a fiasco. So why did he go after a month of games, and why didnt he stay - its not like Mandrake was an unknown quantity. Strange decision making for a very good manager.
Cheltenham Yup allegations not proved, but is this the type of publicity we want with Charlton? Suspended after a month. More great decision making by this man.
Just cant see him justifiably considered a very decent manager on any count.
Also just been thinking about it and Jon Still (Dag and Red), Eddie Howe (Bournemouth) and Paul Tisdale (Exeter) would all be good if we could afford them.

A 'maverick' who has gone through too many clubs - 6 in 8 or 9 years isnt the track record we need.
Swindon turned him down
This doesnt impress me

Really hoping one of the many Allen supporters here could help explain their support of him to me.
Has done wonders with a team probably not as talented as our current crop.
Think we're screwed either way unless we get a real miracle worker in.

Ricki Herbert... Had the same thought over the world cup and also he has done wonders for Wellington Phoenix, who he manages int he A league...
Good call... we cant afford him... we cant afford anyone...
Ricky Herbert
Paulo DiCanio
Lennie Lawrence
Shearer?
Nigel Worthington?

Martin Allen wouldn't be a bad shout - just what we need in the short term, longer than that and I'm not so sure.
I say move now, get rid of Parkinson and get a new man in.
