[cite]Posted By: Phil Parkinson[/cite]I just made some comments tongue in cheek after the Carlisle game. I had already had a bit of a laugh with the ref after the game.
What about the time he was with Weaver in the pub and said he didn't care if Charlton went down as long as he got paid, and then he started laughing! Unbelievable!
This thing with the FA charging managers for speaking their minds about match day officials is now becoming a joke. Parkie has now been charged for the second time this season for no doubt answering questions put to him by the media in which they highlight in the press and managers find themselves get hit with a fine and a ban from the touchline. I think the FA have to take certain things into consideration here, firstly the press confrence is held 20 minutes after the match and emaotions may still be running high, secondly it is not as if they go into the confrence ranting and raving no doubt they are set up by the media, and finally everyone can have an opinion.
I am not just defending Parkie on this but Redknapp was said to face a possible fine or ban after his interview after the game with Man U and the Nani goal (or not in his case). It wasnt until Redknapp stated that if they punish him that he would refuse to do any media interviews ever again.
The powers to be have to look at this and decide that maybe press confrences are delayed for longer in which be more benificial for managers so they can gather there thoughts in which the media would not warm to. Managers send a spokesman on there behalf. Referees come out and justify there decision in which they have made in which has infuriated the manager and the reason, therefore justifing the fine or ban to both the manager bit more importantly the paying public.
Managers are infulential on the pitch by standing on the touchline there a touchline ban for three matches regardless who it is could be the difference between promotion and relegation at the end of the season.
[cite]Posted By: Chris_from_Sidcup[/cite]Surely now he'll just refuse to do any interviews after the games?
He is contracted to do them so (like Ferguson) he will be fined for not doing them. A frivolous expense we can do without
[cite]Posted By: Dazzler21[/cite]Funny how all the same people always pop up to slate parky after a loss have popped up here yet none appear after wins.
Funny how the same people always pop up to draw attention to themselves.
The post match press conference's tend to be dull enough as it is - if the FA carry on like this no one will say anything remotely resembling an opinion in case they get fined. They might as well ban press-conference all together in that case for all they'll be worth.
Comparisons shouldn't really be made between Redknapp and Parkinsons comments. They are completely different comments regarding different scenarios.
Redknapp implied that the ref got one decision wrong and he rightly slated the ref for it. Basically accusing him of negligence rather than cheating to assist Man Utd.
Parky said that the ref was Carlisles best player for 20mins. Obviously a joke but you can't say things like that about a referee because it questions the referees integrity.
Perhaps it's time for all the upset managers to start reading from an agreed script, something along the lines of 'It was a wonderful game, the players were wonderful, the supporters were wonderful and the referee was wonderful. Thank you'. They will have complied with the FA regs. and maybe it will start to force change within the increasingly discredited FA. Feel for Parky on this one TBH.

There are any number of things that a manager can say in a press conference without implying that the ref is a cheat.
[cite]Parkinson also managed to crack a joke about today’s charge, adding[/cite]Obviously I should threaten to not do any more press conferences but I don’t think that will have quite the sway that Harry Redknapp had in saying that
" I made the comments tongue-in-cheek after the game because I was in a good mood as we'd won. In no way did I meant to be derogatory to the referee and I think the quotes have been taken out of context.
"I'd already had a laugh with the referee after the game."
So how and why was this charge brought about ....... did the referee himself make a complaint, or was it just some bored
FA minion whose job is to read through the press cuttings?

probably the latter. In the light of this I obviously retract my earlier comments and have sympathy with Parky in this situation. However, when people read the comments or hear them they a) don't know they are tongue in cheek and b) don't know that he had already had a laugh with the ref so he still needs to be more circumspect with what he says.
It was a terrible decision - doesn't worry me either- decsions like that can cost managers their jobs so perfectly undertsandable they say what they feel in the heat of the battle- as long as they dont physically abuse the ref - I think good on him.
Whether Parky was right or wrong about the ref is a bit irrelevant. We all know he is going to keep getting fined and face the possibility of touchline bans if he makes even a minor complaint about the ref. And the FA will quite happily keep dishing the fines out. Parky keeping on moaning about refs won't get them to change their lousy attitude about what managers are allowed to say either. Only by more managers giving shite, one word answers in press conferences and post-match interviews might the FA start to think differently.
I know it's not consistent with how Redknapp is being treated, but we also know that Premiership managers are treated differently as well.
I suspect this is the bit that got him into trouble:
''he was their best player for 20 minutes today.''
You just can't say things like that. It's going much further than suggesting the ref got a few things wrong out there today blah blah and the other generally accepted formulations for a manager to make it clear that the ref was a useless tosspot, without getting into trouble.
Large is right. It was a very rash thing to say and Parky should have known better. Especially as we had just WON the bloody game, ferchrisakes, so what was there to moan about?
In fact I wonder if Parky has got himself in the record books as the first manager to get a ban for complaining about the ref in a game his team had just won!
Jesus, I can't believe some of the comments on here!! How flipping sanctimonious. Good on you Parky, just carry on telling the truth as you see it. What else do people want him to do? Seriously??!
Thing is Parky has previous with this, so if a complaint was made or someone decided to chuck the book at someone because they were bored he is an obviousish target for them, rightly or wrongly.
Thing is though, PP is spot on. He was telling the truth. That tosser of a referee WAS their best man. So, in a world of free speach, can you really fine a man for telling it like it was?
Why doesnt everyone from the FA chill out and enjoy a wry knowing smile. They know the standard of refereeing in this division is shockingly poor.
Either train them better, or accept the reactions of those who are truly passionate about the game, (as opposed to those who make a handy living from pretending to run it well)
[cite]Posted By: incorruptible addick[/cite]Especially as we had just WON the bloody game, ferchrisakes, so what was there to moan about?
Parky wasn't moaning though ....... he said himself that, "I was in a good mood as we'd won".
Many people seem to overlook the fact that the post-match session is a question and answer sequence .....Parky would have been answering a specific question. He himself says, "I think the quotes have been taken out of context".
In any case, everybody in the ground would have witnessed the referee's performance; within context Parky's being light-hearted about it.
No venom here, no foul-mouthed rant or abuse.
Complete OTT reaction by the FA to a comment that they themselves appear to have taken out of context.

Not the point, I'm afraid Oggy.
Doesn't matter if you are answering a specific question, or whether the manager subsequently claims he wasn't moaning because he was ''in a good mood.''
If you say the ref was the opposition's best player, you don't have a leg to stand on and a ban will follow as surely as night follows day.
I disagree with many of Parky's post match interviews. He seems to make more sense when he considers his views in the mid-week interviews, pressure off and more candid in their still positive assesment; gees at least he's able to analyse unlike Pardew's moronic eliptical illogical non-analysis. But post match like in game he seems to struggle with reading the patterns of the game, one of his big weaknesses IMO.
Having said this I find it utterly ridiculous that the FA should ban someone for what is essentially partisan hyperbole. FFS the fascist way they police their game is farcical, and then the spineless way they take on rich clubs like Man U and the Whammies.... it's as if they're as weak as Chang Kai Shek ruling by pleasing the powerful warlords whilst everyone starves at the scraps table; hyperbole I know but they are farcical in their rulings.
It's ridiculous- Parky's passion is a quality and refs tend to be rubbish and generally deserve what they get said to them. If we do our jobs rubbish we get sacked - if they do the managers they have wronged with their incompetence suffer. After every game there should be a press conference with the ref - the same as the managers have to do. Their performance should be scrutinised and the good things praised. The reason this doesn't happen is the game knows that most are useless. I don't wish to offend the good refs out there but the role does appeal to pedants. Start fast tracking ex players and kick some of these saddos into touch. Stick that Clatternburg top of the list btw.
btw- anybody in their teens or 20s who are refs should be told to play the game not ref it FFS -that will weed out some of the terrible refs of the future.

it takes at the very least 5 years to make it to the premier league and that's only if you are fast tracked all the way through the process (which is rare). So realistically you'd want all referees to be over 40. No offence but you can't fast track refs any more than they do (as experience is vital), and we need younger refs to keep up with the game....
What makes me really, really f***ing mad about all this is that the double standards extend all the way to the actual ban itself. How many times have you seen a top level (i.e. premiershit) manager on a ban sitting in the stands on his mobile phone relaying instructions to his assistant on the bench and disappearing just before half time, then reappearing just after. The Sky plebs (Martin Tyler & his monkey, Jamie Redknapp and ol' hairy hands Keys) make it into a big joke - but it ain't funny. Either its a ban or it isn't. I bet you if Parkinson was on a ban and we were on Sky, they'd focus on him texting Kins, have a laugh and take the piss a bit, then the FA would increase the ban the next day.
I know I should be used to all this crap now - by God I've had to put up with it for nearly 40 years - but the attitude of one rule for the elite in football, one rule for everyone else really does sicken me.
Emm, they did show him on the phone a lot at Milton Keynes, and he left shortly before half time. The sound was off in the pub where I watched it, but the pictures showed him doing exactly what you say.

That was picked up by the commentators. They said that his ban was only from the touchline, and not from contacting the touchline or speaking to the players in the changing room.

So was the ref even offended??

It's not even that Parky's comments are original - many managers have said something similar over the years without being charged.
The FA have consistantly proved their inconsistancy. Let the PC straitjacket police have their day.
