[cite]Posted By: Bexley Dan[/cite]Elliot, Reid and Martin in particular good. The rest woeful - Benson totally anonymous and my optimism about Abbot from the Orient game now completely gone. Mcormack - not a playmaker and never gets near a tackle. No footballers in midfield, a slow defense and rubbish forwards. Hope it all comes together but the best i can say at the moment is that with the sort of luck we had on Saturday, we might stay up.

This is the kind of post that needs revisiting in May

i am quite aware that it's a new squad that needs bedding in etc hence my 'at the moment' comment but i also think its a pretty fair assessment. i'm not advocating Parky is sacked, i'm just saying how it looks now. The wide positions are decent, possibly better than last year - the rest is worse. Logically therefore we shouldn't be better than mid table and what i've seen so far is very poor and for the first time since we dropped out of the premiership, there is a marked drop in quality and anybody who gives Benson anything more than a 5 in the player ratings for Saturday is more worried about knocking a player's confidence (on the chance he may look on here) than giving an accurate rating.

Either because you are bang on or so far adrift. I agree we were terrible on Saturday. The defence is not playing as a unit and individual errors are happening as a result. The midfield needs to gel and start creating. Benson and Abbott were starved of service and played badly. Akpo and Joe then came on and provided energy and pace late on, which helped.

I think our first 11 is as good as lat year (although we miss frazer and Bailey) but the squad is not great. We will improve over the next few weeks but we still need a 20 goal a season man if we want to challemge for automatic or even get close.
  • Seemed to me you were digging my post out as being blatantly wrong. Anyway, i hope i am wrong - nothing would please me more.

Nope I think you are wrong about the relegation bit, but i cannot state as fact you are wrong because who knows for certain?
  • Let's see how we go with Ackpo and Joe - have Benson on the Bench which might help him adjust to his new club. I think we tend to approach games a bit too tentatively - I think Parky thinks that too, but he needs to inject some agression and pace into the offensive side. We seem to have 2 players to offer this option, okay they are not the most gifted but that doesn't matter - they give us an option and an option that opponents won't relish. Parky may have found a solution be default.
  • Their centre back Krystian Pearce had a very good game.

He was a free agent who we tried to sign but we missed out due to the delay in sorting out the budget.
  • I see a few posts dotted around various threads advocating Tuna's inclusion, doubtless born simply out of a lack of faith in the current forwards. Please be patient - he really isn't ready yet for regular first team football. Two of the new strikers have already notched and Akpo has a respectable scoring ratio with us. The fourth forward is clearly a goal-scorer, though not yet proven in div 3. I wasn't impressed either by the front line v Notts (see other posts) but don't let's heap all our anxieties on a young boy who's still some way off being ready, except perhaps for the odd cameo.

    Agree.

I suppose there's that feeling "here we go again". Strikers come in, look poor, and go on to struggle. Burton might be better than anything we have this season, but Benson, Abbott, Anyinsah and Sodje is better than Burton, an injury prone McKenzie, Dickson and McLeod, who we had this time last year.

Hopefully we'll see someone else start in CM alongside Semedo other than McCormack, and it should make some difference. Whether it's enough we'll see.
  • That's a good point Scoham - I too would take any of our current strikers over Dickson, McLeod and McKenzie. I wonder how people would compare Mooney to our current crop? Perhaps I shouldn't open that can of worms...
