[cite aria-level=0 aria-posinset=0 aria-setsize=0]Posted By: nth london addick[/cite]thank god for all the woefuls i honestly thought that maybe i was going mad when afka said it wernt that bad on the match thread
And that home result against Bournemouth is looking good as well...

  • Robbie saved us today, pity he did not stop Exeter's as well! (joke)

We had one shot on target and only two other real opportunities, although Reid and Martin did cause them problems. Oh well a win is a win and it gives us another 90 minutes of game time together
  • Was Mccormack out on the piss last night? He was 2 yards off the pace.

Abbott and Benson disappointing, Sodje did well when he came on again think he deserves a start.

Ayinseh is going to score a few goals for us this season.
  • If we had drawn that I would have said County weere robbed, to get a win was unbelievable.

We were so off the pace of the game it was frightening. Rob was easily MOM today with hardly any competition at all.

Going to enjoy tonight we have been poor for 3 consective games, at least we got 3 points.
  • Well, from 800 miles away, glad to hear Matt Fry had a good game at CB. He'll learn from the penalty. Bonus for us if he can play well there. Sounds like a footballer.

Although I dont get Parky's treatment of Solly, I think it would be a bit risky to play him while Fry is at CB.
  • Fry was the big bonus today. He looked nervous for around 5 minutes and played really well afterwards.

Defensively Francis did well but he has a problem with the long ball forward when the opposition crowd him out.

Not sure about Abbot & Benson. Too similar. Sodje looks worth a game.
  • Well, Anyinsah's goal is proof that I either am, or am not, Phil Parkinson. Depends on your view of the guy. ;)

It was a lucky three points and a good sign to have won despite not playing well.
  • Although I didn't see how dire the performance was, it is often said that a sign of a good team is taking three points when not playing especially well. Apologies for the optimism!

We clearly have a problem with a creativity, and my answer, instead of dropping one of McCormack or Semedo for Racon, would be playing Martin in a CAM role, in front of AM and JS. He would at the same level as Reid and Wagstaff, and the three of them would be behind 1 striker, probably Abbott. A 4-2-3-1 formation. Thoughts?
  • I said to the missus half way through the second half 'what do you think about the new kit?' she relied 'it's dull and lacks inspiration - a bit like the team really'

Sums it up really. My thoughts. We were lucky...
  • Very lucky in the end but it's a win. Before I read Parky's comments I was going to say our decision making needs to improve, he's said the same. Reid, Martin and Francis the main ones for me when it comes to that.

Good to see Fry in over Llera, adds more pace to our defence and he did quite well. Thought Francis was better, still a few stupid mistakes nothing like in the Oldham game.

Every team know Reid is a threat and make it hard for him. Usual good moments but poor decisions/end product too often. Was his mis kick that led to the penalty, imagine the abuse Sodje would have got for that, or Sam last season. He was very lucky Elliot saved it. Similarly Martin had some good moments but again the end product, final pass or shot isn't always there.

Agree with others Semedo and McCormack doesn't work, not in games like today anyway. Tough away games maybe, but home against teams that will attack us we need someone a bit different, which Racon or Jackson might offer. There was space out there today, don't need Semedo and McCormack trying to do the same things.

Wasn't impressed with Abbott again, not winning headers or holding up the ball well. Like Henry said you can see what Burton really did offer without him there. He needs to start offering more or we might see Sodje come in for him.

Benson did ok, had a couple of headers at goal, can see why he's scored goals, he gets into the right position. We have to create chances for him though otherwise he'll look poor. He had a couple and 4 or 5 in the JPT, just hasn't got that first goal yet. He's not going to run at players and offer loads outside the box, but he at least wins a few headers and tries to keep possession. Much prefer that over a McLeod or Dickson type striker.

Great to see Anyinsah score on his debut, seems to have a bit of pace, should hopefully be a useful player both up front or on the wing.

Very different to a lot of home games, Notts County attacked us more than a lot of teams. Don't feel like we were that terrible, Notts County looked a decent side, they're not one of those teams we should be beating 3 or 4-0. Does feel like a close division, the difference between a play-off side and a mid table one can just be creating or taking a chance in a game, or defending that little bit better.

  • Utter and complete rubbish...
  • Scoham very fair reflection,
Half way threw the second half i was hoping that we could hold on to point, but to win it i didnt see that coming, it was wierd to see a team come to the Valley and get at us rather than get everyone behind the ball.
Perfomance needs improving but at end of the day we did win
  • [cite]Posted By: tom- k[/cite]Got that tune stuck in my head that Notts county fans were singing. Anyone know what tune that is? Bugging me.

    I wasn't there. Wild guess:
"I had a wheelbarrow, the wheel fell off", over and over again.
  • 'we got away with that' were AFKA's words to me as we bumped into each other outside the ground.....sums it up for me.

1st half was absolutely dire and I knew MacCormack was going off at the break as soon as he bottled that 50/50
Elliot was quality, thought Fry did well to.....Francis just looks a shambles at the moment, some shocking balls.

Thought Reid and Martin did o.k, Semedo was he usual quality self.

Up front....blimey they make me look quick, Abbot just didn't look like a footballer and as for Benson, he needs to sharpen up quickly as £250k is an awful lot of money for us to spend on someone!!!...I'll give him the benefit as it was his first league game and we won (which masks an awful lot in the end) but he's has to get better...and fast !

All 3 subs did well for me..plenty of running and effort from the front 2 and Benson and Abbott must now know they need to step it up to keep their places.

All in all though, it's 3 points at the end of the day.............and yes 'we certainly did get away with it' !!

Hello all. Notts fan here in peace.

Didn't get to todays match, but wondered what you thought of us? Our commentator thought we played really well and deserved the three points, or certainly one. I read one comment that said we didn't have any quality in our side?? Ben Davies (wanted by Derby) JonHarley, Bishop/Ravenhill? (Maybe I better not mention Hughesy!)

Our manager says we played well against a side who will be there or thereabouts come next May, although I appreciate you aren't happy with your performance today. We played terribly for our first four matches...Darlo would have turned us over, so despite your win I take some positives from today. Any fair assessments would be appreciated.
  • I said after the first game on here that Mccormack was crap and cannot play in the same side as semedo as they are similar and offer no creativity and out of the two semedo wins hands down. Today proves this again.

    Simon Francis is also crap.

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed what I thought was an entertaining game. We were very lucky but we won because Robbie played a gem, we defended pretty well throughout and Akpo made a vital difference when he came on. I would have given Akpo MOTM even though he was only on for a short period, but Robbie has to take that award. Well done to Joey A. for scoring on his debut too.

You were by far the better team, IMHO. Closed our players down really quickly and snuffed out the threat of our danger men.
  • Very disheartening to read the views on here....must say I am a liitle worried about Parky's ability to judge talent....the two strikers (abbot and Benson) sounded poor today.....

No wasn't that, didn't have any lyrics. I recognize the tune but just can't place it!

  • We were very lucky today for 2 reasons. Number 1 was getting a win when a defeat would have been fair. Number 2 was Parky was through necessity, shown a couple of important lessons. These are that McCormack is a useful player to have on the bench -steady and can do a job but definitely behind Racon and Semedo and that you need pace and power if you haven't got quality up front. The 2 subs need to start now and Benson can wase his way into the team with less pressure if he is good enough. BTW Think Youga should walk in to the team when his fitness is proven.

Message to Parky - In this league you have to pose problems for the opposition. Do that and you score goals. Martin, Asyinah, Sodje and Reid are more of a handful than if you have 2 slow players in there. Don't have favourites and play a side that is more likely to get results.
  • We didn't play well by a long stretch but is that "lucky"?

If the situation had been reversed it would have been credited to poor play and lack of ability to finish from us not "bad luck"

We scored, they didn't. We won.
  • we were lucky in my book - yes poor finishing from Hughes but he would normally have scored 2 at least out of that lot. Strangely enough, I can see how we can be a decent side from that preformance. We need the team to get a bit more used to each other and have an attack that worries defenders - the one that Parky brought on with 10 minutes to go! The changes are obvious for Tranmere -I just hope our maanger -Wh I rate- makes them.
  • You can't play that poorly and see them have most of the best chances including a missed penalty and not conclude we were lucky to get all three points.

Of course, the points are as welcome as if we'd played our socks off to get 'em. But the win was so undeserved and fortuitous that it just doesn't feel like a night for roaring ''super Reds''' until the pub closes , does it? The warm glow we felt after Orient just isn't there for me...

The worst win (performance) since Doncaster away september 2008.
  • shirty, actually you might be right there are worst win since Doncaster cant think of any other ones really
  • If we win our next 2, we'll look at it as a great win -possibly a pivitol win in our season. Tonight I'm a bit relieved and would be dreadfully sorry for County if they didn't employ the player who was largely responsible for our success today - Elliot's great perfromance notwithstanding.

So a win we can't crow about today but hopefully one we will appreciate tomorrow.

That's a very sage comment and an excellent way of looking at it, I reckon!
  • Bit like last week, it could have gone either way. It is a win and hopefully the team can build on that confidence. It does not seem the same charlton I saw last season. There is plenty of work that needs doing

    Impressed with Elliott.

Anyway a good win for my boys at the monkey hangers and a Charlton win as well, it does not come much better
  • We are only 2 points from the top of the league after all.
