[cite]Posted By: shirty5[/cite]The worst win (performance) since Doncaster away september 2008.
is that the game i got slated for saying we were shit in.Francis is w**k Abott is w**k, i know my football said it about McCleod and was proved right, so don't get your hopes up,these two aint going to do anything.
Deliberately posting before reading the thread so reflecting my impressions without being influenced.
First half the central midfield (including Semedo) was virtually non-existent both in supporting the defence and creating anything worthwhile going forward. Martin and Reid were our only outlets but the only real chance was Pavel's header onto the top of the net. Fry was a shining light and coped well with, whatever you think of his behaviour off the pitch, one of the best strikers in this division, namely Lee Hughes. Matt's performance was even better when you consider the lack of cover from midfield I've just referred to. We were incredibly lucky that Hughes fluffed two chances that he would bury 999 times out of 1000.
In the second half, whilst I still didn't feel we fired on anything like all cyliders, the midfield was better and Semedo was more evident. Racon, not my favourite player, deserves some credit for that I think. Fry once again played well and the one blot on his performance was conceding the penalty but Robbie Elliot, as he did all afternoon, rose to the occasion and foiled Hughes. Are you listening ooh ah and others? Did Anyinsah touch the ball before scoring? I don't remember but what a good, assured finish!
At the end of the day three points when performing poorly cannot be knocked.

You forgot to mention Akpoe stirring things up and his aggression that created the goal
Yes, he made a tackle. The difference for me is that Anyinsah and Sodje played mostly facing their goal and Abbot and Benson mailnly faced ours. You could see the County dfence were no longer comfortable when they were introduced. In my book, you play the players who your opponents don't want to play against. Too early to judge Benson but you have to play him with Sodje if you do play him. 2 slow players up front doesn't do the business.
I only hope that today's performance means that we never see Benson or Abbot again other than on the bench or in the the Johnson paint drying trophy...just not good enough.
No passing, no movement and no idea at all about basic football. Too many long humps upfield.
A flukey win might be bad news in the longer term as it will delude people that we might know what we are doing.
Thank God for the fat, bald, drunk driver. Without him we could have lost 3-1..
Unlucky Notts County who played far better football, had more shots on target and passed along the floor like we used to....
Elliot, Martin and maybe Reid well played. as for the rest....it might be a long season.

wow benson has only just joined and your writing him off???
Listening to the game this week, it did sound pretty poor, it isnt often in this division that the opposition has as mush of the ball and sound more of a threat, however the win is obviously hugely importnat for morale. We coud have ended up on the back of 3 straight losses, and the confidence being sqeezed out of us... instead we got out of jail, got lucky with Robbie pulling off a genius and then the young lad burying one and pushing us back up the lead.
So no room for compacency and Parky probaby needs to start again and have some training and thinking time to try and solve our creative and strking problems...
The bit of pressure at the end of the first half prob stoped the boos reigning out..
Onwards to next Tranmere, this league is WIDE open, the right teams got out last year,Millwall, Norwich, and Leeds, anyone can win this league, really average standard..
Waggy to come back in for me and Martin to play as an Attacking mid with semedo as Holding Midfielder..
totally agree Nick, Abbott is shocking and Francis it just beggars belief how Solly can't get in the team when he's fit.My brother knows a scout who has jacked it in a Charlton after 15 years. His statement was your club is fecked. The best 3 youngsters you got down there are keepers so what do we do,get rid of the keepers coach, he said the scouts dont get paid now and when trying to entice kids down there when chelsea, spurs etc are also after the kids we can't even offer them a kit.
Well we keep getting told it cost a million a season to run the academy, if we aint going to do it properly save money and revert back to a centre of excellance like Millwall did.
I thought Fry was outstanding - handled Hughes one of the best strikers in this league.
I agree with other posters - Semedo and Mac cannot play together - needs to be Semedo and Racon in the middle. We did not get the ball to our strikers - Benson hardly touched the ball - we need to give him service and play to his strengths (otherwise why pay £250K for him?).
Francis was much better. Reidy was hot and cold. Made so many mistakes in last 15 that we would have been better off taking him off even though we had used up all our subs!
Martin had another good game but without an end product.
Addickted : ''I've seen more skill, desire, commitment, pace and real footballing quality in an U11 match - and that goes for both sides.Worst load of poop I've seen at The Valley for nearly 30 years''.
Craig Short : " I thought today was a good advert for League One football.''
I'm with Addickted. But it seems we got off lightly. From what their manager says, I'd hate to see Notts County (or us) on a bad day!
Anyone remember the last minute the linesman waved for a corner (which it was) ref said goal kick they go up the other end and with the final kick of the game Burgess headed straight at Elliott otherwise it would be 1-1
To win when not playing particularly well is a bonus, I am still not to worried because the general standard of this league is not......erm...great, I am sure at some point we will click and when we do I am reasonably confident of a top 6 finish. Well done Joe!!

Terrible decision that was
Yep that was unreal lino right there give the corner and ref blanked him.......
And when that cross came in (I felt sick) thankfully a crap header straight at elliot and that was in the added on time of the added on time !!
Nice to see two players who are often singled out for criticism (one sometimes justifiably, one not in my opinion) come on and make the difference. Akpo, not the worlds greatest player and never will be, but ive never seen him give anything but his all for us - came on, made himself a nuisance, went at them. Sorry but Benson and Abbot were just too timid for words - just not good enough at all. As for Therry 'he doesnt do anything' Racon, sometimes thats true - he can disappear and he can be frustrating, remember this level doesnt suit his game at all - he gets far fewer moments to show what hes about - but i dont see how anyone can deny that we look a far better side with him and Semedo in centre mid, something which has been true since they first played together. Watch Semedos game change when he plays alongside a battler in the style of McCormack/Bailey, hes still a good enforcer but thats it. Looks far more comfortable moving the ball about with Racon to give it to. At home, or against teams higher in the league, i think going with any other midfield partnership is just stupidity.
We managed to make a very poor team look good. Notts will be very dissapointed not to be going away with all 3 points yet they were dross. Parky's tactically inept performance once again threatened to lose us points, he needs to learn quick but I don't see it happening.
It was probably one of the worst games I have seen for a long time and I could not even muster the excitment to cheer when Hughes missed the penalty, just sat in my seat feeling relief.
Very rare you come away from a game we have won feeling quite so demoralised by the whole thing. Glad my ticket was free as I would not have wanted to pay for that!
I thought Benson was a passenger yesterday. A couple of his touches were pretty poor though. I'd rather see either one of Abbott / Benson paired with Akpo or Joe. Two are target men, two have pace.
How can most rip into Benson and Abbot, They got no service yet again, Reid and Martin's final ball was crap, and Semedo and Mccormack are not creative players. So until Reid and Martin get there crossing sorted out there never going get any chances to score.
I thought reid put 2 evil balls into the mix in the second half from in front of me in the north west quad just dying for someone to get on the end of them....
Second half I'm pretty sure benson made a very good defensive header when we looked bang in trouble at the back ...
But benson looks like NLA said he'd look like, a passenger unless he gets service

I can't see what was tactically inept about Parkinson yesterday?
He started with what he felt was his best XI in his favoured formation and when he realised it wasn't working, switched McCormack for Racon. Far from inept, infact he made the decision early and got it spot on, we were much better in the second half and I felt the introduction of Racon played a big part in that.
Akpo and Joe did well once Parkinson realised it wasn't going to work today with Abbott and Benson, again another call that he got right.
You may have all been hoping for these changes over the past couple of weeks and now he's made them some of you still seem unhappy. There's things to work on but Parkinson knows this and I have faith that he can get it right.

I'm happy to take the three points.
Thank god for Robbie........
I thought this might be a stiffer test than the voting suggested yesterday, I thought it would be a draw .
Got home and my son had won over £200 on a bet, which included a Charlton win..... ( 7 game accumulator)
I said he was very, very lucky indeed.

Take him up the Dartford Tunnel and leave him back in Essex. I will sponsor the taxi.
The hero of a local pub team. End of..
Not as bad as Abbot but then neither is my Mum..
We need to get the ball into his feet in the box. If we do I think he'll score goals.

We had no midfield. McCormack????
Dreadful but Parky had the sense to change it. Just wish he had brought Akpo & Joe on earlier. We could have had some half decent football then.
We won, the suns out & i'm happy.

Can't remember the last time we did that.
