[cite]Posted By: valleyman[/cite]Parky's tactically inept performance once again threatened to lose us points, he needs to learn quick but I don't see it happening.
I can't see what was tactically inept about Parkinson yesterday?
He started with what he felt was his best XI in his favoured formation and when he realised it wasn't working, switched McCormack for Racon. Far from inept, infact he made the decision early and got it spot on, we were much better in the second half and I felt the introduction of Racon played a big part in that.
Akpo and Joe did well once Parkinson realised it wasn't going to work today with Abbott and Benson, again another call that he got right.
You may have all been hoping for these changes over the past couple of weeks and now he's made them some of you still seem unhappy. There's things to work on but Parkinson knows this and I have faith that he can get it right.
I'm not the greatest Parkinson fan, but he emerged from yesterday reasonably well. It could be said that his signings looked pretty cack, but he has been looking at footballs basics, not taste the difference, and at least nearly all the players are triers even if some are very limited indeed.
My praise for Parkinson was because he subbed MacCormack at half time (not that Racon did any more, but neither did he do less than Mac) which was at least a decision, and he must have looked on in horror when a tiring Reid slipped which led to the penalty. However the substitution straight after the pen was good, and needed, it gave us a boost and eventually led to what a manager must deliver above all things...three points, so well done Parkinson, and well done Robbie, Martin and Fry, and Parkinson brought Martin and Fry in.
[quote][cite]Posted By: Nicholas[/cite]How can most rip into Benson and Abbot, They got no service yet again, Reid and Martin's final ball was crap, and Semedo and Mccormack are not creative players. So until Reid and Martin get there crossing sorted out there never going get any chances to score.[/quote]
I'll tell you why, because we know crap players when we see them. Abbott and Benson, were more like Abbott and Costello!!!!
[cite]Posted By: bibble[/cite]I'll tell you why, because we know crap players when we see them. Abbott and Benson, were more like Abbott and Costello!!!!
Still too early to write Benson off after yesterdays game. We all moan we need a goalscorer, we get one (ok only proven up to League Two, but we couldn't afford someone from this level) and we want him to offer more outside the box.
It would be interesting to know the type of striker(s) he played alongside at D & R. We don't necessarily have to have a quick striker up front from the start of games. Mendonca and Hunt never offered that.
Do need to see more from Abbott though, wasn't winning headers or holding up the ball well enough. Might be better off with Akpo just being a nuisance if Abbott doesn't improve.
You all sound like we did after the Oldham game where we were so poor we made them look like Real Madrid. All we did for the first 3 games is play hoofball, and we used up all our luck in the Bournemouth game, when we were dire, but pulled a draw out of being 3 nil down after 27 mins.
I still believe you'll be up there come next May. It just seems to take some teams longer to gel than others.
I don't believe we are a poor team however, as a couple of you have said. But I suppose I would say that. I guess the table will show if that is true or not after a few more games.
The referee and officials.
The referee was Mr Tierney
The lino in front of the east stand was Mr Margetts, and the other one was R Whitton.
I don't usually slag off the officials, but yesterday I thought they were poor. There was an early penalty shout on Abbott which Tierney with a large gesture dismissed, followed shortly by blatant holding across Bensons chest, also ignored, and within moments Lee Martin was dissenting a decision to County by protesting about the pen...he was booked (and to be fair may have had a second yellow late on for finger jabbing Margetts, but Tierney got Jose to intervene). The lino Margetts especially in the first half wasn't keeping up with play, and therefore giving very unconvincing decisions.
Late in the game Tierney was obsessing about time, and complaining about Robbie supposedley time wasting, which led the 4 mins extra time to grow to 9, and shockingly he ensured County had a final attack by overruling Margetts correct corner call and giving a goal kick....this was because we were using up time fiddling about in the NE corner and he simply didn't like it, he had jabbed his wrist regarding time earlier, and HE ensured County would get a final chance to equalize.
I thought Tierney was a poser who did not apply the laws dispassionately, also there was the incident in the second half where our 30 yard FK became a 20 yard one because of deliberate handball, which should have led to a booking (I think it may have been a second one for Hughes!) but there was no booking....he was very poor, but more disturbingly I thought he was taking sides for whatever reason.
At least it was Notts best performance of the season :-)
CRAIG Short said Notts County produced their best performance of the season at Charlton Athletic.
The Magpies' lost 1-0 to a late strike from Addicks' substitute Joe Anyinsah at The Valley, but Short felt his side deserved to win.
He said: "Our game plan worked brilliantly. We kept them quiet in the early stages and the crowd started to get on them, and we started to play our football and get on top of them.
"We were always a threat going forward. They had a few chances but we defended really well.
"We didn't deserve to lose, but no doubt we will have a game this season when we get battered and nick a win at the end.
"Everything went to plan in the game apart from the goal we conceded, which came from a minor mistake, not a major mistake, a minor one."
Despite the defeat, Short believes the Magpies' performance shows they are getting stronger. Notts have dropped one place to 13th in the League One table, but Short added: "I'm so pleased with how far they have come from the start of the season when we lost our first two league games.
"They are getting better and better with every game and we have got to keep trying to improve.
"It was nice to be able to name the same team from the Yeovil win and I think we saw the benefit of that in the performance.
"I am gutted, obviously, but I feel more sorry for my players because they worked so hard, and deserved to win the game.
"They are a great set of lads but they will pick themselves up and be ready for the next game."
[cite]Posted By: seth plum[/cite]...also there was the incident in the second half where our 30 yard FK became a 20 yard one because of deliberate handball, which should have led to a booking (I think it may have been a second one for Hughes!) but there was no booking....
This was the FK just outside the area and the wall lined up just behind the penalty spot, which by my maths is only about 7 yards back from the ball, and he just ignored it.
Margetts was really not keeping up with play and missed several offsides (including I think the one leading up to Hughes' first miss - I think he signalled for a GK; not offside as some have said)
We were a tad fortunate, but there were glimpses of promise for the future I thought. Whether sufficient promise for promotion I doubt, although the only thing I know about this league is that I know nothing about this league.
Still, Parkie made the correct substitutions which was heartening (Racon - can't live with him, can't live without him), the defence looked more solid than I thought it would, and we won - that was nice.
it was a terrible performance the shape of the team is wrong and as for abbott this man will not score the goals to get us promoted ,saying that we still av a good chance because the rest of the sides in this league are just as average as us.

I saw that and thought our players might have mentioned to the ref that 18 yards take away 12 is 6 , where were the other 4 yards
I'm pretty sure the linos flag was up b4 hughes had had the chance to miss that gilt edged chance

No he signalled for offside; flag was raised before the ball went out of play
Agree with most that is said on here especially the Semedo / Mcormack partnership really not working. Il also echo the hats off to Matt Fry, a great performance. I though that County did look a good side. They seemed to have a plan when going forward and sliced through our defence with ease, something I rarely see from a red shirt. Whatever anyone says about Hughes he had attitude and a real desire to be in the end of every cross and to make chances ,something really lacking in our attack until Ackpo came on. Lee Martin looked like the only creative player in a Charlton Shirt. It would be great to see Solly, Asinyah, and Racon get a start next Saturday. It was certainly not the worst game I have seen in a long time, theres some incredibly selective memory goin on if people think it was.

My praise for Parkinson was because he subbed MacCormack at half time (not that Racon did any more, but neither did he do less than Mac)
Well, Racon held on to possession and passed tidily to a red shirt.
Not much I know, but more than anybody else seemed to manage in the first half; I was getting sick of the way we were chipping and punting the ball forward at the earliest opportunity.
Why do all these apparently average teams seem to pass the ball better than us?!!
I thought Hughes was a cut above any other striker on the pitch; glad he left his shooting boots at home.
I thought we edged the second half and all the subs had a positive impact
However, I think we would have gone on to lose comfortably if they had tucked the pen away
I thought Abbott and Benson looked woefully inadequate on the day and Benson in particular we are going to have to do a lot better if we are to get the best out of him (Could Benson be to Parky what Varney was to Pardew?)
Reidy looked our most potent threat, but when he manages to work his way through I wish he would show more composure and intelligence.
It was pretty lame stuff, but hey it's a work in progress.
Bumped into a Saints fan on the way home to Poole.
He was totally depressed; he said they were clueless and had no midfield!
All to play for in this League I reckon
a yawnfest. We can blame the lack of midfield creativity, which there is, and possibly the strikers but where is there service. However I think it goes deeper than that, coaching and the approach to the game. One instance stood out for me. County had a corner which was cleared. Their player collects it about thirty yards from goal, on touch to his left, steadies himself and bang, an effort on goal well saved by Elliott. I can't think of any of our players that would have done the same. It would have been a sideways pass to someone else or a floated dinky ball into the box. We need to become more expansive, we need more efforts on goal. Four home games, incl the Paint Pot, and 4 goals. Once again their keeper didn't have to make a save worthy of the name. Did Elliott ? Damn bloody right he did. Not good enough Parky, sort it out.
Can't play McCormack (who has regressed to his pre-season persona) and Semedo together. Racon a slight improvement but he hardly oozes creativity. Play Martin alongside Semedo or maybe Jackson. If not maybe we need a loanee. Think we are nearly there but this lack of midfield creativity will be our downfall.
think Parky is deluded if he thinks that was an improvement. On the evidence so far Richard Murray would have done better spending the Benson money on getting rid of Parky. I'd still do so now before it's too late. Attracted some good players, have a decent squad, missing that vital something in midfield. However, he doesn't have a clue. Nothing has changed. Just my opinion.

early ? I could have told him that after 15 minutes. Why wait until half-time. In fact, why start them together in the first place?
Pretty rubbish afternoon all round, how we escaped with 3 points I don't know. The only highlights was Asinyah's debut, Robbie Elliott and Lee Hughes making a tit of himself.
McCormack needs to be dropped for Racon as said, bored of waiting for Francis to come good, espeically after a couple of perfomances by Chris Solly this season. He can cross a mean ball when in the right positions but defensively he looks a mess. Martin ran his socks off but with little end product, Reid fairly annonymous as well. I find it difficult to hand out too much stick to Benson and Abbott when they just have no service to feed on at all although Benson did look a yard off the pace. That is our biggest problem and needs to be addressed urgently. Zero creativity and imagination, exactly the same at Exeter.
A positive is that pundits always say a sign of a good promotion candidiate is when you still pick up 3 points when you play rubbish.
If Llera had made the Doc's cock ups in the first half he would be being slated on here. I cannot wait for Fortune to start partnering Dailly at the back
Some pretty blinkered views of Fry if you ask me. Given a torrid time all game by Hughes, gives away a penalty and distribution just as bad if not worse than Llera's. Yet somehow he was one of our best players?
Half our fans have decided they don't like Llera and Francis and they can therefore do no right in their eyes. Francis wasn't that bad on Saturday, certainly not one of our worst performers.
Elliot, Reid and Martin in particular good. The rest woeful - Benson totally anonymous and my optimism about Abbot from the Orient game now completely gone. Mcormack - not a playmaker and never gets near a tackle. No footballers in midfield, a slow defense and rubbish forwards. Hope it all comes together but the best i can say at the moment is that with the sort of luck we had on Saturday, we might stay up.
