CB's did appear to stop Abbott by shirt-pulling and holding but which modern defence doesn't? Shouldn't really be enough to render him ineffective but I've liked him so far and at least he didn't add to the recent red cards in frustration.
God only knows what the ref was doing after the ball got thrown on. Interesting that the chorus of boos didn't appear to be aimed at his directly spoiling an attack for Charlton (quite the opposite in fact), but at his failure to get a grip, and to let the players stop for a nice drink and a sandwich. From that point on Dickov appeared to dictate to him when a stronger ref would've put him firmly in his place (and reminded him what an odious, cheating little prick he was when he played). Don't think he in any way cost us the game though - when they weren't mimicking their manager's antics they played some good stuff and deserved their point.
I thought generally if you played center mid you were either the holding defensive type who breaks up play or the attacking playmaker type who threads passes through and is there to notch a few goals. jugding by the comments on here Racon seems to be neither. I know we was short Saturday but he will still be there when we aint, He's doing nothing just like last year but Parky seems to see something. I just wish he would show the rest of us what it is.

I've rarely seen Racon regularly thread passes through since we signed him and he's obviously not a defensive midfielder. To me he's never looked like either, just something in between. Not even box to box like Bailey was and McCormack seems to be.
It's never been obvious what Racon's job is. I suppose he's there to keep possession, help out defensively and hold his position especially away from home (not like Bailey for example who would try to get all over the pitch). Occasionally he scores or plays a part in creating a chance.
Anyway can't see him being in the team on Saturday with Semedo back and McCormack captaining the team while Dailly was out.
Have to say I'm surprised Racon is getting so much more flack than MacCormack. I guess Mac is new so is being given the benefit of the doubt.
I've said before that Racon plays best when he is next to Semedo. I think Parky asks him to play a bit deeper than is his best position. Last season it was to give Bailey freedom, this season it's been to cover for Semedo. When he pushes forward he can carry the ball through centre midfield, has a good shot on him and his passing is usually very neat and tidy (he doesn't give it away cheaply very often). He's athletic too. His best football came in a 5 man midfield when he had a bit more freedom than in a 4 and he could make neat triangles with Shelvey/Sam/Burton.
I still think he and Semedo will eventually be our best central pairing - Jose sits, and Racon provides the tidy player that keeps the ball moving and keeps us ticking, getting the ball to people like Reid and Martin to the showy stuff that catches the eye but can't happen without people like Racon in the team. It's the job Matt Holland used to do so well until his legs went.
Mack may well fullfil the same role, but i'm still a fan of Racon because his technique is clearly better than Mack's
I don't think Racon has played especially well, but neither has he played that badly - like others it's too early to judge him because he's played two games, both in a slightly less favourable role and one of them in a backs to the wall 10man away win (in which he played pretty well).
Racon gets flak from me (on here not in the ground) because he is arguably the most naturally talented footballer left at the Club yet he shows his abilities so fleetingly and, in my opinion, tends to go missing during games. This is a man don't forget signed with a view to playing in the Premiership once we gained promotion!
On the other hand Mac has no great pretensions to be any more than a solid third division midfielder.
In other words the expectation levels are different.
One last point, and it is unfair to blame Racon really because Parky chooses the side, he played poorly for much of last season yet Jonjo did not come in to replace him which was a waste.
I feel about Racon the way seemingly everybody else on this board, bar Sam lloyd Oggy and me, felt about Lloyd Sam. A largely unfulfilled talent.

yes he was. Didn't say he wasn't though.

Please prove me wrong Therry!
I agree r.e Racon he is probably one of two truly naturally able footballers we have left... Pity is the other one shows it.
That's Kyel by the way!
I think racon owes himself and us a good season
But he will only get to show it from the bench I reckon unless we get an injury
