  • oldham certainly know how to infuriate a crowd, and the ref didn't help. that stoppage for the ball or water was ridiculous, and he did nothing whenever their centre back grabbed abbott and stopped him from playing. the prick that kicked the ball at our dugout deserves a longer ban than he'll receive. llera was shaky, but francis looked very poor, a suicidal crossfield ball and another dreadful backpass come to mind, and if oldham had had a decent striker i'm sure they would have scored from them. i think we didn't play well purely because oldham realised that if they fouled us, we wouldn't score, and they were right.
  • Thought we were poor and never really got going, though the second half was a bit of a joke having about 10 minutes of no play then the ref gave only 5 minutes added on time.

Abbott should have scored in the 2nd half, if Akpo had missed that he would have been crucified. Though Jackson did well saved a few goals going in. Llera was all over the place at times, Racon non exsistant again, I like him but he has to start doing more. Francis especially in the 1st half kept passing to Oldham, hopefully it's just him getting up to speed otherwise Solly looks a better bet than him currently.

Saw today when things aren't going well we have no option other than Akpo on the bench which is worrying as we will have to use the bench at some point this season, needs more depth.
  • [cite]Posted By: Off_it[/cite]Can't believe there was only 5 mins additional time - the knob ref held the game up for at least that long for the ball fiasco alone (just what was he waiting for?), let alone the substitutions and the sending of fracas.

Still, could still be playinmg now and probably wouldn't have scored again, the way things were going. One of them games.

However, didn't see too much wrong with the Reid "goal" - both players were leaning into each other.

Agree about the ref... 10 mins would have been more like it with all the stoppages, but they never add on the true amounts do they? Reid did push him in the back, but play should have been pulled back for an obvious foul just before the pass came his way, and then the defender as always gets the eventual given foul ....

Was a bit of a dull game.. Their goal was a beaut.
We need to feed our strikers more. Nothing new there then.... If only we could just get that nippy 20 goal a season man to play off the very impressive hold up and link up play of Abbott...

Isn't that what Parky' himself has been banging on about for the past few weeks?

He's said thare should be a new striker and winger before 31st August, and after that he's not afraid to bring in loans.
  • Oldham fully deserved their point. We need at least two more decent players in as the squad looks very thin, and wouldn't it be nice to get Youga back playing as he was in the first half of last season?
  • Heres my view....

Bottom line...if it was not for Elliot we would have lost, he made 2 great saves. I cant remember their keeper making a save.

We have a lack of pace at the back the full backs ar etoo slow, Doc was very good and won all the areial stuff, Llera player to his strenghts.

Midfield, Mac was my MOM, as good as Bailey but without the theartrics, This may be controversial but I think Racon is overrated, he creates very little and lacks attacking ability. Waggy played well as did Reid bit they crowded him out.

Martin was everywhere good link up play, Pavel very dissapointing didnt win a header and his flicks did not work, When Akpo came on he won his first header and caused problems.

Parky showed passion, especially when he had a run in with their sent off player. Should have sent on Akpo eralier!!!
We need another striker and some pace at the back, Racon to the bench when Semedo is back.

Fair result, whe are in 3rd, I'm happy with that.

    Spoiling tactics?

Last season we came and parked the bus and got a point despite being under the kosh for most of the game. Today we came and took the game to yourselves, had double the attempts on goal and an even split of the possession. We went there to win and perhaps should have put one of our other chances away to come back with the 3 points. We came for three points, that's how we played, we came back with one and we'll take it, because it is away and you're one of the better teams in the league. Likewise, a point on your behalf isn't a terrible result either, considering how we are playing at the moment.

We've both took 7 from 9, I don't know many fans who wouldn't have took that 3 weeks ago.

Cheer up, Parkies has given us the credit, he hasn't lambasted any negative tactics, because we didn't employ any. We had a go, made a game of it and a draw is probably the fair result.
  • said after the Orient game that Doc's headers were dangerous, great finish but it is not a clearance if it lands in the D!

Also never seen a ref time waste before, a tool end off
  • Jesus wept - the negativity on here is insane. How will Daily''s red card come back to haunt us? He's only missed this one game for Christ's sake! We've got four points in the games Semedo's missed so far after his red card.

As for today, it wasn't a great performance, but better than 80% of the dross we had served up last year. Oldham looked a decent side - I really don't get why people accuse them of spoiling - they were more adventurous than nearly all the teams I saw down the valley last year.

There's a lot of complete shite on this thread - I can't be arsed pointing out how wrong all of it is.

Agree. We'll play better than that. Other teams won't play as well. All it takes in another game is some poor defending and Reid, Wagstaff, Martin etc with a bit of space might create something. Oldham made it hard for our wingers but not every team will do that for 90 minutes.

  • LA

Soo much better than last season. Agreed with that. We actually are entertaining too watch at least.

As for paying for the 2 reds.........

I think with semedo and dailly we would have won today. Top of the league and an unbeaten run to uphold.

We'll see. Long way to go yet.

We'd have probably lost this game last season.
  • First home game in two years. So with the benefit of a certain detatchment over the last few months I must say that was awful. Two specific periods of play where we kept it down and pressurised them and in the end Robbie saved our blushes. Sorry but I have not seen that standard of football since I starred in the 9th Lewisham North Cub pack 2nd eleven on Blackheath in 1971. Mittigating circumstances could be that I missed my old perch in the upper strata of the Valley. I lost most of the sense of the game in the lower West by the away fans. Hard to work out Parkies Plan A let alone a Plan B, not a master tactician is he ?
  • Dickov has got Oldham playing like he used to. Can't really blame him or them, as it particuarly effective away from home.
Agree with Leroy - thought they looked quite good, and that could turn out to be one of the tougher home games this season.

Ref was fussy, but I didn't think that he was actually that bad - he let quite a bit go for both sides, and got the sending off right.
Should definitely have been more than five minutes added time, but doubt we would have scored anyway.

A point in the end seemed a fair result, as Oldham certainly had the better chances in the second half.

i thought you were bloody impressive pal to be honest a lot better than last season and you have a lot to look forward to under dickov nice football at times pressure and bullying at others i liked it well done you were deserved of 3 points today imo

Weren't at our best today but it wasn't as bad as people made out, Oldham looked pretty decent and only went particularly defensive after they went down to 10 men with a few minutes remaining which is fair enough. Draw probably a fair result.

Francis & Llera were the obvious weak links today, Llera instead of Mambo is understandable but I much prefer Solly to Francis.

Abbott was decent but I think we need a bit more pace upfront so I'd rather Sodje at the moment, of course Luke Varney would be even better but I doubt that will actually happen.

You'll find it hard to believe, but it was by no means as bad as some performances over the last two years...
  • It was a decent point against decent oponents. Cant believe thats the same team who visited last season, credit to Dickov for that.

First half we looked good in spells with some decent pass and move stuff. Second half we lost our way and Oldham looked the better side as far as I'm concerned.

As others have said the concern is that when the game does begin to drift away from us we have no attacking options on the bench.

Look at the players we had on the bench, barely any options to switch things around apart from bringing on Akpo and maybe putting Martin in another position (which he did).

Not convinced we only drew this because of tactics.
  • Think we can play better than today and we will. But to be fair, Oldham surprised me, they can play. Ref done my head in but it feels like i'm moaning about the ref after every game now so I give up with the officials.

Thing that has wound me up more than anything is the so called 'fans' that were sitting around me today. Just go home if you're not there to support the team. Half hour into the game 1-0 up and the idiots around me start telling Parky to 'sort his life out', 'get his act together' and my favourite 'Parkinson, why don't you do something for a change'. Its because of numpties like this why I prefer away games.
  • it wernt me i dont like the fella but he didnt do nothing wrong today imo

i think people need to get used to poor reffing this is the 3rd division if the were any good theyt wouldnt be doing us woulds they

  • I think Chris Solly must be very disappointed not to be in the team after his MOM against b'mouth watching Frances today. Gave the ball away far too much.

I felt sorry for Abbott today as he battled with their centre backs and held the ball up well for others but didn’t get one chance created for himself by others. Waggy may have scored but did little else, Reid looked more dangerous without a final product and Martin didnt really get in to the game. Alan Mc played his normal battling game but didnt get the ball down and out wide enough and Racon had one of his poorest games for Charlton really looked like a player lacking confidence.

It was a game where we needed to look to the bench and change it up a bit but we really had nothing of an attacking sense there that you would feel could make a difference. We need at least 2 more players if not more to give us more options going forward else we will struggle to break teams like oldham down.
  • Worst ref in years

Oldham looked good at times but were able to mix it when required.

How abbot didn't get a few more free kicks I'll never know - he was being manhandled EVERY time.

Typical Dickov towards the end though - nasty, spiteful, time wasting

We weren't good enough but this side still needs to gel so not panicking yet

Also thought the red card was harsh.

I agree, think when it was time to change it around you look to the bench and think really there is no other options. We don't have a strong enough squad. First 11 fine.....squad, we need more bodies.

Cheers pal. The main thing I'm looking forward to is beating teams at home we should be beating. Getting good points whilst on the road is a bonus. We have Yeovil and Bristol R at home next before a tricky task of Peterborough away. If we can keeptthis momentum going and our workrate and fitness up then I don't see why we can't win those home games. And go into the P'boro game top.

I still think we'll finish midtable this season, but there's a lot of potential in this team.

You'll be knocking on the door of autos I think, playoffs minimum. Good luck anyway. Parkies has always appeared a pretty humble guy to me, not many managers like to credit opposing teams.
  • Oldham were more than worth a point and had the two best chances in the second half - two good saves from Robbie the Pink. We applied some pressure towards the end without creating much.
Apart from the interminable delay after the second ball came on the pitch, I can't see why the ref is coming in for so much stick.
  • Not the greatest of performances, Thought we were outplyed in patches. (We only had 2 shots on target)
Francis kept giving the ball away & Martin was more interested in trying to do flicks and tricks.
Thought Elliot and McCormack were our best two players today.
Semedo, Daily & Solly should come in for Racon, Llera & Francis next game.
We need another striker as well.
  • I'm generally a fan of Racon, but he was poor today.

Llera made me very nervous today. Missed tackles, and backed off too much.

Considering we were without our two most consistent defensive players this result was not a disaster, but this squad definitely needs a few more bodies. The bench looked skimpy, and it never looked like we had enough to get the winner. I know it's no great revelation but we need an out an out striker with a bit of pace. I wouldn't mind Wycombe's John Paul-Pitman as an option to bring off the bench...

Oldham played to their strengths today and did it very well, we will not be the only team to struggle when trying to play them. Ref was completely useless, he did us no favours and the sending off may have been harsh, though the reaction was despicable. Also have to say the Linos were a bit rubbish and all. We definitely could (and last season probably would) have lost the game today but we didn't which I for one will see as a postive.

Also have to say, I don;'t think Abbot was as bad as some may say, the Oldham players knew exactly how to deal with him and the ref seemed to have something against him judging by the pulling/shoving/climbing the poor bloke got subjected to.
  • Thought a Draw was a good result considering we didn't trouble their keeper at all.
So what if Oldham used spoiling tactics , it's their prerogative to do so plus they WERE the better side.
Thought we should have had a pen for pulling in the second half. Managed to catch the moment ( see below).
Definitely need another striker , Not sure Abbot is going to score many this season on today's performance.
