It wasn't Santa by the way
  • head was fine, cider all day long, left cons club about 7.15. And Francis is still shite
  • Thought Francis was woeful.
Question; do you allow him to play his way to form and fitness in the first team or do you give the gig to arguably a lesser player who is actually in form?

Racon, I agree, wasn't at the races. Even his usually tidy passing let him down.

Thought we started brightly, Reid tormenting their full back; then eventually we got our goal.
Cue predictable sit back, foot off the gas, loss of drive, intent, desire, will-to-win - something that seemed to happen so often last year.
The fans go silent, it becomes like a park game until a bad decision or an opposition goal sparks everyone back into life.

Still thought we shaded the game albeit not by much, but slightly alarmed by the lack of chances created and shots on target.
    Thought Oldham played well.
Granted they created more chances, although mostly as a result of our mistakes rather than their penetration.
    A draw was probably fair

atleast i can understand your ranting today bud, got on it then yesterday did you
  • ive just read back what i posted, god i was pissed LOL, don't help ive been working 15 hour days with little sleep.Started at 6.30am yesterday morning, and thats a lie in.
  • I thought the 2 wingers did ok but nobody looked like a real scoring threat.

Llera has the mobility and turning circle of a skip lorry.
  • I was wetting myself reading it last night thinking well i bet it makes sense to you
  • To be honest i didn't think this was two points dropped. Oldham played very good football and they are no push overs, yeah the squad isn't ready yet but Parky has said that just recently, to be third after three games is brilliant. This team still needs to gel together but with Semedo and Dailly back next week our performance will improve. Huddersfield away is one of the toughest this season, we need to be patient and give the team time.
  • "To be honest i didn't think this was two points dropped. Oldham played very good football and they are no push overs" Agreed althought they resorted to the more annoying stuff later on. Just hope we don't find ourselves saying that about too many opponents.I thought the 2 wingers did ok but nobody looked like a real scoring threat.

"I thought the 2 wingers did ok but nobody looked like a real scoring threat." Me too. Always felt they were our most likely source. Nothing much through the centre at all.
  • Never got into a rythmn.Look good when we pass it on the deck.Too many hoofed balls to abbott.
Racon is playing like someone that knows he will make way to Semedo.Francis should use his undoubted physical presence to better effect. Was very poor yesterday especially his distribution.Has to play with much more agression.Still much too early to pass judgement.
Martin looked good when he replaced Racon in middle. The Doc is settling in although that was a weak headed clearence that led to their goal.
Team still settling in.Need more options for substitutions and game plans.
Happy with the point.Thank you Robbie Elliot.

  • Considering all the changes we are gone through this summer in terms of playing staff it would be unrealistic to expect a fluid display at this early stage of the season. Getting 7 points out of 9 is an excellent return and is hopefully something we can build on once the team/squad gets more used to playing with each other.

We played some good stuff in patches 1st half going forward, and had we kept them out up to half time we may have gone on to get the 3 points. The problem we faced once the hour mark passed was we needed fresh legs and fresh ideas, but with a lack of numbers in the squad this is virtually impossible. The need for at least 2 attack minded players (midfielder and a forward) is essential before the window closes.
  • I think the criticism of Jackson seems unfair.I made a similar point on the ratings.

I have followed his career since his Spurs days and I agree that he could be the creative cm we need and I hope Youga returns soon so that he can play there. If not maybe Fry could step up.

I therefore paid particular attention to the defensive side of JJ's game yesterday and felt he played well and his Goal line clearance and excellant tackle underlined that .
  • Francis very poor but heyho we paid a fee so he must play, ain't that right Parky. Racon, what is his job? Very talented footballer but just doesn't do it. Looked at the bench and thought 'there isn't anything there to change things'. As WSS said, current squad = play-off's, a couple of decent additions and maybe a loanee when needed = automatic.

One shot on target in 90 minutes - no change there then. Goal shy as normal. Must do better. Oldham deserved their point, maybe all three.
  • in this thread have some of us started hating pawel abbott !!! against oldham who we signed him from, he was taken out the game by jarrett and hazell they though this game and he was maybe trying to hard to score against his former team and oldham antrics did upset him and the fact the ref mist all the antics also our service to him was not the best!!! he is better an gray, mcleod and mckenzie ,i like him and he will come good his finish at shrewsbury (1st goal) was brilliant settling time still needed! also i havent had a favourite addicks player since the prem so i think it maybe abbott already
  • with you uie2. I like Abbott. May not be prolofic but I'd back him to score 15 plus this season. Needs much better service though.
  • me to largeaddick well said :)
  • I agree Richard..i gave Jacko my MOM he was brilliantly defensive today..that clearence was brilliant
  • Thought oldham done really well and if they had a bit more ooomph in the latter part if the match (pre sending off) they could have gone on to win it
Oldhams no.6 was all over abbott and I think fairplay to abbot for not lashing out
Francis was pony early doors but showed small signs of improvement in the latter stages, although it would have been impossible to get worse !
Without me old mucker robbie we would have lost today and he gets my man of the match (we must have been junk!!)
    I now see us as 1% automatics 49% playoffs and 50% below 6th :-(
  • I didnt go to the game.

But I am pretty sure I could make up a paragraph of nonsense that would be more on the money than some of the comments I have seen on here.
  • how on earth do u work that out??? U weren't there?

Doesn't stop some saying some players are better than other when they're not there.
  • [cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]Francis very poor

    And Racon wasnt?
  • Harsh to blame Racon for us being over-run in midfield as McCormack didn't make many more tackles or passes than Thierry. As last year, the defence sitting so deep means there is too much ground for the midfield to cover even with Martin tracking back. The return of Semedo will do little to improve matters, but hopefully not every side will push forward as much as Oldham. Ref ignored many fouls esp on Abbott when he was well placed. A bad day at the office, we're relying on breakaways at present. A plus is extra height this year, but lets mix some corners up Parkie, they were all to edge of six yard box and dealt with easily.

A bad day at the office is about right so a draw is a good result under the circumstances i think.
  • I was ready to go & larrup the officials!!

Cant remember the last time i was so angry at a game.

Dont get me wrong, Oldhams defenders did what Dickov told them to. But i felt so sorry for Abbott, he got no help from the officials. Fair play to the bloke for keeping his head cos i didnt.

Me, i was doing a fine impression of NSS & Boogica!!!!!

Hope i get Abbotts table in the draw come end of season :-D

Agree with this we were sat too deep to often - Mac and Racon need to spilt and have one sitting deeper and one pushing out a bit - of Allie Mac hadn't got sucked back so close to the back four he'd have stopped that shot coming in and we may well ahve won 1-0. With Dailly back we'll hopefully be able to push up a bit because, whilst not lightning, he's quicker than Big Mig and Doc and reads the game so well. It will be a flaw in our side all season though, but not all teams will hassle and harry as much as Oldham so players like Reid and Martin will get more time and space to create so the deep lying centre midfield won't alwyas be a problem.
  • I must have missed all thes fouls on Abbott. Most games the ref gives loads of free kicks either for or against the centre back and usually it's a toss of a coin which way the decision goes, I'd rather see the game flow. Abbott gave as good as he got. And some people have even said Oldham were dirty - Tommy Smith and Chopper Harris would be turning in their graves to hear that (if they were brown bread). I sit in NW Upper and there were people screaming at the lino for giving offside - at the away end!

There was a lot of shirt pulling going on and it was definitely restricting his jumping at times.

Full credit to Oldham though, they playedon the edge of the rules, just like their manager used to (they reminded me a lot of Bolton under Alladyce). Tenacious is the word I'd use rather than dirty.

Sometimes you get a ref wants to let it flow and lets tat kind of niggly stuff go, other weeks you'll get a ref who wants to be fussy and will clamp down on a lot of it. We got the former on Saturday and that favoured Oldham - another week they might come unstuck because of it.
  • First game of the season sat and havent seen any footage and my feelings are.

We looked like a team of strangers which we are.
McCormack wasnt the snarling midfield terrier box to box player i was expecting
Abbott did ok looks to hold it up well.
Liked the way our wingers were more direct than last year getting at the full backs.
Jackson at one stage seemed to sauntering instead of busting a gut to get a ball pushed down the line for him.
Racon still amazes me how on earth he gets picked
Oldham looked good played some attractive football.
Thought we could have had akpo on sooner but in saying that i liked Parky shifted martin back rather than taking him off
I think the biggest dissapointment to me is we never really play with a high tempo

Still long way to go yet.
  • I thought Oldham played well. They attempted to play football -- and at times they actually did.

Racon cant play a holding role in midfield.

Ref and lino was total KAK.

We got a point and we deserved no more than that.
