  • I thought he might be a bit of a prima donna - Man U, big transfer fee, etc. But not a bit of it - ran his socks off, showed great skill, and also right in the thick of the team celebrations at the end.

Perhaps he is too good for us and this division - but at least he doesn't think he is!
  • Is this a long-term loan if so sky sports have just said you can only be called back if it is for a transfer

Hopefully it is and we can keep him
  • Was said it was a season long loan but with a recall option in January.

Is that a new rule? What about players returning and then going on loan to another club, eg Bouazza going back to Fulham to join Birmingham on loan.
  • i dont know they were talking about bellamy and the legalities of the move,

it stated the difference between short and long term loans

short term anywhere between 4 weeks and xmas or xmas till season ends

long term normally a season and can only be recalled if the player is to be transfered

so i was hoping someone on here would know
  • Henry Jnr has just spotted Martin shopping in Bromley High St ......

    .......wearing a Charlton tracksuit.

Thinks he was with Akpo Sodje but not sure.

Clearly we don't pay 'em enough these days - can't afford proper clothes ;-)
  • Some fans on here seem to be less impressed with Martin than others. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so here are my thoughts on all our current forwards.

I think Martin is a good player, he has some skill, a turn of pace and seems to panic defenders. However in truth as people have said he doesn't look like someone whose main objecive is to score goals. I'm certainly not disappointed to have him in the team, but I don't expect him to score lots of goals, which is a shame. He's more like someone to bring others into the game.

Abbott. I like his positioning, but in a race for the ball i don't think he is going to beat many people. He doesn't seem lazy, far from it as he does try to get in the mix, he just seems a bit lacklustre. I feel he is the type of forward who needs the ball delivered to him in the box if he is to score, he hasn't got the pace or the skill to make something out of nothing outside the box which is where most of our forwards seem to spend most their time over recent seasons. He is good at winning heads that come across field and like Martin can bring others into the game.

Sodje. Now unlike a lot of people i think Sodje's work rate is excellent. He is faster than Abbott in my opinion but doesn't win as many headers and his positioning is not always great, but he does cause defences problems. But like Martin and Abbott i don't think he will score us many goals.

Rounding it all off, in Martin, Abbott and Sodje i think we have 3 very good forwards/targetmen, however i don't see any of them being our main goal threats. The good thing is they all seem to bring others into the game, like Wagstaff for example. Its nice that the goals are currently being shared amongst the team, but the difference between us and everyone else in the top 6 last year was we didn't have a 20 goal a season striker. If Benson does arrive I honestly feel there are few clubs in this league who have many better players for him to play off of. The problem will be is if Benson does become our main goal threat and gets injured. Time will tell. Even Tuna might be affective playing off of someone who can bring him into the game

I hope all our forwards prove me wrong and score 15+ goals each which is certainly a promotion winning statistic, at the moment i am not convinced. However the one thing that does impress me this season about the team as a whole is there seems to be some fight in them and a team spirit, Oldham game aside that is.
  • Lee Martin is a great player. I feel as happy about Lee Martin joining the club as when Kyel Reid joined.

I think that he will prove himself to be a real asset. I think with Charlton he has found a club that he fits right into in terms of being needed as a player; as right wing or creative central midfield, in the hole behind the strikers. After the Ipswich experience, I think Lee Martin benefits from being at Charlton too. It is a good match.

Players like Wagstaff, Abbott and Benson (if we sign him), will benefit from Lee Martin's clever link play.

If Lee Martin continues to play with commitment then with all the skills he has, he will be a favourite with the Charlton fans.
  • Just seen our Lee in the changing room at the Gym.

He does have a rather large conk and a lot of tattoos
  • Hanging around changing rooms again Henry. . . . . .

you say that as if it is something bad

    : - )
  • Very industrious again last night to go with his obvious skill (no, not Henry). If he can choose the right moments for when to showboat and when to keep it simple, without being leading scorer he could still be the key to winning a lot of close games, just by "picking the lock". Great that with Reid and Waggy, we now suddenly have three players who can take players on and beat them more often than not.
  • Hopefully a 4th in Anyinsah.

what the feck henners you are acting like a stalker

the other day you prentended that your little un saw him and Akpo now your looking at his weener

Very true - forgot about him already! Hopefully he'll give us extra ammo in front of goal too.
  • Seem to recall that this deal had a recall clause for January. With Roy Keane now out of the picture at Ipswich will we see the back of Lee?

Would anyone be that bothered?. Has constantly flattered to decieve and has probably had 2-3 good games.

If he went back I wouldn't be overly bothered - even less so if he was replaced by Townsend from Spurs.

Harry said in his post match interview that Townsend was very impressive and going out on loan next week....
  • na not much end product, depends who else we can get i spose
  • I'd imagine Townsend will be very much sought after at championship level C_S
  • If he just stopted trying to many flicks etc then he would be a good player.
  • Not bothered....he seems to be a bit like Reid in that he somehow unbalances us.....one that will always flatter to decieve for me Im afraid.

Struggled at Ipswich though and the loan was cancelled as he had been benchwarming for 5-6 weeks.

Good point and I see where you are coming from but I think there will be plenty in that division who would take another punt at him, especially after he put himself back out there with a good goal at the weekend
  • He reminds me of Ambrose when he played for us. So frustrating!

Probably less end product than Ambrose!

How's life away from the 4th Floor of RSHE?

Good thanks mate. Nice bunch who like to socialise outside of work curry, poker night etc really enjoying it. Coming back for a beer on the 21st if your about.
  • Didn't miss him at all on Sunday. Agree he's a sort of Ambrose character, only with less end product. But maybe a new style of football would bring the best out of him?

Will stick it in the diary. God knows if I'll remember!
  • I'll get someone up there to remind you mate if you still fancy it.

Hopefully whoever manages us, will get the best out of him as it seems most players that left us and regarded as crap are doing well these days.
