I am absolutely fucking fuming about this. How can we sell our right back to one of our main promotion rivals?
And...then we go and sign some nobody midfield reject from Southend!
I'm so pissed off!
Hope you're right. He's got a lot to do. I trust him to build a competitive side as the board said, but not convinced we'll be able to find enough quality to finish in the play-offs.
Not brave. Look at the players he got in last season and what you thought of them at the time. Now you're all suicidal about Richardson leaving and voted for Dailly for POTY. This time next year and it will be the same with Doherty and ANOther. Parky is this division's best manager.
If Pardew is so crap why is everyone so worried about Southampton? I'm not.
I remember when we sold Andy Reid everybody said the same thing... "good fee for an injury prone player". I was in the minority that said it was a mistake - and I say the same thing this time.
im not worried about southampton at all. I am however worried about the 20+ other teams in the league and im more than a tad worried we will be looking up at the whole lot of at at some stage in the not to distant future.
If we turned it down we'd only have to sell someone else. Probably won't get a player of the same quality, but we might have to accept that we're rebuilding the team over the next few years and then going for promotion.
Reid was our playmaker, so much went through him. Richardson was a solid right back, usually easier to replace.
Without going over old ground you also need to remember that Sunderland were trebling Reid's wages on a FOUR-YEAR deal and that he wanted to go to them.
Not much that you can do when that happens - especially when you are skint and someone is offering you 4.5 million quid.
I don't see how many games I saw as having anything to do with my assertion that Parky is this division's best manager.
I only had to watch Germany twice in this World Cup to bet on them winning this competition - something else you poo-pooed Large. Wait until Sunday evening and you'll see I was right about that.
Besides, these sales are not Parky's wishes - you know that. But he'll brush himself down and make good of a bad situation. For some reason (Large) you are so constantly anti-Parky due to the relegation two seasons ago. You can't seem to get off your blinkered anti-Parky glasses.
Golfy: this sale is not comparable with Andy Reid. I, for one, agreed with you on that one but not on this. It's bad news but not a disaster. Anyway, judging by what everyone else is saying on this thread you don't have to warn anyone - they all agree with you already.

You are asserting that he is the best manager in this division and yet you don't see the baffling subs he sometimes makes, his strange tactics, his lack of a Plan B, his reluctance to play certain players etc. Also in too many games he was too negative last season and if he had been more positive we might not be in the position we are now.You can't comment on games you don't see and even if you might listen occassionally on the radio you are relying on someone else's take on it.
You obviously havn't read my comments on other threads tonight. Yes, Parky is partly to blame for the position we are in and yes I do still think him a poor manager BUT he is now in an unenviable position and has had the rug well and truely pulled from under his feet and he is having to replace it with newspaper. For that he has my sympathy and support and at this moment in time he is possibly the best man for the job. We now need to develop a siege mentality and get behind him and the team that he manages to patch together on what little resources he has.

*grin* This description doesn't half remind me of Curbs in the mid 90s
i think 450k (if the fee is promotion related we'll get it all the saints are certs) is a right touch ..cheers pards, you love over paying!
the richardson who played the first part of the season was decent but imo he wasn't half the player after he came back from his lay off ....
he ran into so many dead ends when he should have released a pass it pissed me off no end and his crossing was hit and miss
the omosuzi that left was as good as the richardson that left imo
not seen enough of solly to know whether he'd be able to step up but ffs another one of these youth players has got to be half decent cos the likes of waggy, basey and elliot are pony so fingers crossed on solly
Richardson sale: Well he was no Johnny H was he, and on the few occasions that I saw him he gave his winger acres of space in which to move. On the subject of selling off your best players. I said when we left the Premiership that we needed to take a gamble and hang on to Darren Bent until xmas, to see where we were. The best time to get back would have been that first season and with a good goalscorer I think we would have been flying high. We got off to a great start even without a goalscorer. But the majority of fans were saying the same thing then as now, ie we can't turn down such a fee, it's the best thing for the club in the long run etc etc. Was it? Look where it has got us. We are far worse off than the 10-12 million that we got for him. Unfortunately we have now reached the stage of such dire desperation that we are having to dispose of assets at any price.
Only just heard about this this morning, gonna try & be objective. I think we need to see where we are on the in's & outs when they have all happened. Yes it is galling losing Shelvey, Bailey & now Richardson but they have all been for very good fees for League One players, even if we were not losing huge sums of money each week, would we have turned any of these fees down? Probably not. Let's just hope that the players coming in are of the calibre required to mount at least some sort of challenge for the top six this season.
[cite]Posted By: KBslittlesis[/cite]Not sure if this has been mentioned already
but
Richardson left Leeds.........they finally got promoted
Good move Parky, Agent Richardson
;-)
I was going to mention this, there was a very good article on a Leeds blog about Fraz's career and all his "luck" in playoffs but I can't find it now. Being serious though I am a little disappointed he has gone but some on here are making out that he is a top class player, lets face it he isn't, he did have a couplke of shockers last year. He is a good player at this level and no more, but if the figure being mentioned is correct I'm happy enough with that and we also have a good young backup.
We know this season (and probably many more after it) are going to be incredibly tough but some of you lot are ridiculous, it's either the "we are doomed" camp or another chance to bash Parky. lets give it a while, wait until we have had a few pre season games and a few more signings are in and then lets see what conditions are like

I actually agree with most of that - went a bit wayward at the end with slagging off the current crop of youngsters but it seems the happy pills are doing their thing

Yes, he went off the boil after his injury but IMO was back to his best in the play-off second-leg (solid in defence and barnstorming surges forward) - hitting the post with that 25-yarder in injury time
my choice for POTY along with Semedo - absolute disaster losing him IMO - when he was out injured right-back was a nightmare position and cost us countless points
final point. have been plenty critical of Parky but what a superb signing on a free RIchardson was

Parky is a better manager then Pardew and he knows what he's doing.
And...then we go and sign some nobody midfield reject from Southend!
I'm so pissed off!
Parky is going to build a side mixing youth and experience; players who will really get to grips with League One football.
Wait and see.
Won't argue with the first bit.Jimmy Krankies better than Pardew. But the second bit's very brave.
If Pardew is so crap why is everyone so worried about Southampton? I'm not.
LOL. And you saw how many games exactly last season ?
You have been warned.

Asda's are paying more than Charlton to their staff these days.

All I can hope is it was a big fee, I doubt its over 500k tho
And that we are now on a stable footing
Slightly puzzled tho cos obviously he will have to be replaced, so hopefully we have a decent freebie lined up
er Raz it was 450k so no it wasn't over 500k.
