It would be exactly the same reason as why he signed for Charlton.

Yes and look how well that turned out for him! If he does go he'll go with my best, wherever it may be (except maybe Milwall but I don't see that happening!)
  • Players are slated for being shameless money grabbers who shag around and desert their wives/kids etc etc. If they play badly this is immediately thrown at them as we have seen with the England team this week.

Yet when a player is said to be making his family life ONE of the considerations in his next career decision that is derided and dismissed.

Yes, plenty of other people have to make hard decisions about money, family etc and his will be softened by the financial package he gets but why should the guy be attacked for wanting, if possible, to be near his family?

It seems will want to judge footballers by different criteria than we would use for ourselves just because they are well paid and in the public eye but at the same time complain if they are not totally "down to earth, normal guys".
  • with Norwich signing the left footed Andrew Surman from Wolves that effectively puts them out of the picture so looks like only Boro for Nicky to choose from now.
  • Can we just hurry up and sell him so that we can sign some more players as our squad looks threadbare!
  • We won't be signing anyone on a fee.
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: Dazzler21[/cite]We won't be signing anyone on a fee.[/quote]

No but any fee we get will helpout on the wages front, so the sooner the better. Thaty said I expect that he will only go when his purchasers are returning for training, no point in paying wages while he has his feet up watching the world cup

    Spot on
  • [cite]Posted By: kings hill addick[/cite]Unless I'm mistaken Bailey can choose to 'stay and honour his contract' and by default force the club to 'honour their contract to him' rather like McLeod's agent has 'threatened' to.

Sure the cub would like him to move on, if they can get enough money (well any at all actually)' for him. But don't be fooled SoundAsa£, he is not out of contract. He doesn't have to change his employer if he doesn't want to.

Thus the decision is his, and his alone.

If he would rather move to Middlesbrough (with all the upset it will cause his family) than stay with us for another season then go where ever he wants to on a free then that is up to him.

Please note I'm ignoring the money he is on as it is irrelevant. He will be exceptionally rich for the next twelve months irrespective as to what decision he makes.

However, to expect anyone to feel sorry for him when it is clearly his own decision, and when he is in a position to do what ever he chooses is a bit rich, in my opinion, especially as he has form of jumping ship as soon as a club from a higher division comes sniffing around.

If he stayed and honoured his contract and made the club honour theirs thus maknig the club struggle even more finacially and miss out on over 1 million that could secure the future of charlton for the time being, you would be happy with that would you? You wouldn't be screaming why cant we get him off the wage bill. When his contract is up in a years time would you wish he went when we could get some money for him or prefer him to walk out the door scott free. I know the preference for him and his family isn't boro but maybe just maybe he knows this is best for charlton too. Soundas its not often i agree with you but thats the way it is , but on this occassion i agree entirely with you. I hope whatever they do everyone, them and at the club get the best they can from it
  • Middlesbrough start pre-season training on Monday.

Hopefully the saga will be over by then and everyone can move on.

There are some great places for a family home around the area.
  • To be honest he could find living up north good for the family. Just because he is playing for Boro he does not need to live in the city and unlike London you can live miles away and still be able to get to the city within an hour. He can live in a nice village with a massive house for peanuts compared to what he can get round here.

When I moved to beverley near Hull for work I was really reluctant but they were three great years ...then work took me to Birmingham :-(

Time to leave, it's not nice to be a figure of fun and constant baiting planned by a new little clique on the board (you've got what you want no doubt), just for being different and outspoken....goodbye all. I hope the board thrives and goes from strenghth to strength.

    UP THE ADDICKS!
  • are they your words or nicky baileys?

SoundAs - I share your sentiment though I don't even think you need to be outspoken for this to happen on here. Just different.

    Good luck.
  • Uncle,

You seem to have misunderstood my comments. I have no interest in keeping Baley at The Valley next season. I'm all too aware of the need for money. I suspect that when it comes to it he would be allowed to leave for £200k if that's all we can get. If we can (and personally I doubt it) anywhere near £1m for him I think we should be dancing in the streets.

My comments about him honouring his conract and expecting the club to do so was in responce to the 'requests' for us to all feel sorry for him that he was being 'forced' to move to Middlesbrough. He is not being forced to go anywhere.

Just for the record, I like to think I'm a loyal kind of chap, but I wouldn't move my family, against their wishes, to the other end of the country to do my employer a favour - and I seriously doubt that Nicky Bailey is either. If he's going to 'Boro, it is because he wants to, based on the alternatives available. If he can't get a dream move to Fulham then that is a dissapointment for him, I'm sure, but it's not as though he is out of contract, and the only way he can feed his kids is to move to 'Boro.

It's his choice, and neither of the alternatives would be turned down by 90% of the population. Hundreds of thousands of pounds a year for a 26 year old to play football, and some expect us fans to feel sorry for him because he can't get a pay rise and stay near to his family?
  • Not 'forced' but it would help his career (and our bank manager).

Plus I'd move my family to the other end of the country for 2 years if you were gonna double my salary!

Anyway, a lovely pad at Great Ayrton or Yarm would do him a lot of good.

Great night out in Yarm too. . . . .

    What's not to like?
  • Come back Soundas dont let the buggers wind you up. They were fiercely defensive of anyone that said anything about Jonjo's move etc etc so you're just doing the same re Bailey as you know the family.

Suck it up and ignore em and whisper all you like.

All the more reason not to let them win!

Soundas, Addick Addict, whoever keep telling it as you see it otherwise we have no forum. Opinions are its lifeblood.

Sadly some people are seemingly unable to engage in debate and have to resort to turning it personal.

    Their problem not yours.
  • Can I find a clique that doesn't want us to sell Bailey, please?
As for Soundas£, ignore the cliques mate, I do... "Can we have our Charlton back"... Trouble is everyone’s aspirations for Charlton are different...
  • Time to lighten up a bit aint it. Christ can you not have a bit of fun on here without people leaving the site. I had actually agreed with the guy, i think everyone is taking this just a little bit to far. Oh and by the way i never once got defensive about Jonjo's move and not once did i expect anyone to feel sorry for him for having to move away to liverpool at the age of 18 so why dont you all get a grip blimey
  • Offside.

If that was aimed at me, of course you stuck up for your nephew - why wouldnt you? I dont think anyone felt sorry for jonjo having to move to liverpool tho - the main point was why he went? To which we are all still waiting to hear. i look forward to the gory details.

Maybe I'm out of order saying this, but for the last couple of mornings when SA has got work there have been "messages" on his works phone with someone trying to be funny with a "Harry Enfield type like voice" saying something along the lines of "Only Me: Whispers!"

    Pratt !

    (not Soundas.....)

    Oh, and withholding their number.
    Brave Boy !
  • what is this fascination with whispers???
