  • [cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]Little bit surprised he will be going all the way upto Boro, quite a way and from reading on here I thought he would've stayed local.
Probably not got much choice and he's the only player we'll get that sort of fee for.
  • [cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]and from reading on here I thought he would've stayed local.

Most of the stuff written on here is made up bullshit

I can 'guarantee' you 100% he wants to........but if no one local comes in for you then what can you do.
I think they've worked it out that if he were say in Norwich or Southampton for example, then you'd have to travel pretty much by rail or road to get to and from London to stay in touch with all the family, wheras flying between Tyneside or Glasgow to and from London would take about the same time anyway.
It's going to be one hell of an upheaval for them as they spend so much time together with his inlaws in Forest Hill, at the weekends the kids almost never miss a night or two with gran and grandad at the pub...it's their world and it's gonna change very soon....I feel pretty sad for them to be honest.....they'll get by of course and I'm sure we all wish them well.
  • Yeah, gutted for them, it's not like he's ever had to upheave his family before whilst moving around previous clubs (at his request, not the clubs) and on how many thousends of pounds per week will he have? I'm sure it'll all be very tough for him.

He's NEVER had to live far away....what are you talking about, Southend was just down the road.
And what has how much someone earns got to do with being away from your family and loved ones...that doesn't matter if you're a pauper or a millionaire 10 times over...the sadness of being apart is the same....or don't you think so?
  • turn it in now.
  • [cite]Posted By: SoundAsa£[/cite]the sadness of being apart is the same....or don't you think so?

It's his decision though, nobody is making him sign for boro. I know this might sound a little crazy but if his family means all that to him surely he doenst have to go and sign for boro.,...

[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]I'd be happy just to see some news on the out of contract players we're trying to keep.

Jackson I don't see us getting, doubt Notts County will let him go for nothing.

    But season long loan?
Maybe they'd waive the fee. His wages will be an issue for them, they can't continue with the current wagebill

Ermm Stu...he want's to stay at Charlton....but we HAVE to sell him...simple as that....we need the money to pay other players contracts pure and simple.
He's put between a rock and a hard place...as indeed many pro footballers are during their careers...he's not unique, however as I happen to know the background a little bit then obviously I'm seeing the fall out of that awful night a few weeks back in a different light to some of you. Some of you may not give a shyte but for some of you it's a little bit of added interest as to the ramifications (behind the scenes if you like), of what can happen to someones life in an instant because of a few disasterous minutes on a soccer pitch..
  • It's not nice to see anyone separated from their family, but he is only going to Middlesborough. And will be getting paid handsomely to do so. This isn't Sophie's Choice.

  • I predict this thread will be sank soon.
  • it's middlesbro, not the arse end of the worl...............oh, hang on.
  • My point is that your making out this is some horrible situation for Bailey to be in, that simply isnt true, in fact quite the opposite, hundreds of lads would LOVE to be his position, so it's really not all that bad is it.

Baring in mind some of his behaviour this season I'd say he was lucky to be finding a club at all.

I'm not making out to be anything other than what it is...good bad or indifferent...you decide...I'm just giving you the facts and as someone who knows his family a bit more insight as to how the game against Swindon can impact on peoples lives....if you're not that interested or don't care fair enough but I'd have thought it might have been of interest to some folk....I've no intention of turning it into some tear jerking soap opera...just telling you all how it is.
Mind you I've found that on football message boards it's all very 'manly stuff' for the most part......you're not supposed to wear your heart on your sleave for a second as that makes some guys feel a bit uncomfortable you know.

  • For what its worth SoundAs, I don't think you'll get many people, including myself, who'll give a monkey's about how hard Bailey's family are going to find it, if he has to move to Boro. Bailey has not got a gun to his head and can do what he wants. Whatever happens he'll still earn more in a month than many earn in a year. Many on this site are short of work or completely without it and some may be struggling to pay the mortgage. There's plenty of tear jerking soap opera stories out there but Nicky Bailey's life is most certainly not one of them.

Yeah, like the people at the club doing their full time jobs, not on several grand a week.

Let's not forget it was him that cost us the game anyway.

Indeed mart.... we've just heard today about how the loss that night may well lead to a number of folk losing their jobs....as we walked away from The Valley that night I wonder how many of us thought or realised the way peoples lives would be so dramaticly affected by that disasterous result.

any one with half a brain must have realised that it was promotion last season or we were well and truly rumped as a club and there would definitiely be big cut backs if we failed ... sorry times but the writing has been on the wall for a while if you looked
  • Having read what I said I also wanted to add that I in no way blamed Nicky for the missed penalty or us not going up. That's just one of those things and indeed I doubt we'd have finished as high as we did without him in the team. I'd also love him to stay but am not expecting that to happen unless a wealthy Arab fancies owning South London's premier football team! Here's hoping!

Yes, I know what you mean...but were we thinking about it at that precise moment,I know I wasn't.
Most of us realised it but it was put into the back of our minds I guess.
  • Unless I'm mistaken Bailey can choose to 'stay and honour his contract' and by default force the club to 'honour their contract to him' rather like McLeod's agent has 'threatened' to.

Sure the cub would like him to move on, if they can get enough money (well any at all actually)' for him. But don't be fooled SoundAsa£, he is not out of contract. He doesn't have to change his employer if he doesn't want to.

Thus the decision is his, and his alone.

If he would rather move to Middlesbrough (with all the upset it will cause his family) than stay with us for another season then go where ever he wants to on a free then that is up to him.

Please note I'm ignoring the money he is on as it is irrelevant. He will be exceptionally rich for the next twelve months irrespective as to what decision he makes.

However, to expect anyone to feel sorry for him when it is clearly his own decision, and when he is in a position to do what ever he chooses is a bit rich, in my opinion, especially as he has form of jumping ship as soon as a club from a higher division comes sniffing around.

seems obvious to me that as no-one local has come in then he's decided to move to Boro. Could stay if he wants but has chosen to go. Oh well. I can't believe you are effectively saying that Nicky is justifying it as you can get 'home' from Middlesboro by air as quickly as you could from Norwich or Southampton by road. Yeah right. Norwich and Southampton are 2.5 hrs tops by car. By the time you have got to Teeside airport, checked in, done the flight, got out at the other end (Gatwick) and then driven home it'll take longer. If you wanted to stay as near as possible to London and had the chance of Norwich, Southampton or Middlesbrough then Boro would be third on the list. Unfortunately Nicky's track record of moving on at the first opportunity goes before him and you'd have more of a case if he hadn't already done the dirty on Barnet and Southend. Not saying that he is doing the dirty on us but whatever he does he is doing because he wants to. If not he'd stay. Alternatively he could move up there alone and come home after a game for a few days. Plenty of players do that now and after all it's only likely to be for a year .......

Middlesbrough are in their last season of parachute payments.

It's promotion or bust for them this year, and like many recently relegated ex-Prem sides ...... they are gambling everything on getting out of the Championship this season. Familiar story?

Nicky Bailey is an ex-Conference, League 2 and presently League 1 player.
He's 'proven' himself already for 1 season in the Championship - so most clubs in that League would know what he's capable of.

When Pardew signed him for Charlton in August 2008, spending what he was given of the Magic money. Bailey himself said at the time that he saw it as a great move and implied that by winning promotion at Charlton (as everyone expected at the beginning of that season!) ....... it would be his passport to play in the Premier League.

That was his thinking at the time. He's now 26 years old - doesn't anybody think his ambition will be the same?

Okay, I'll spell it out: IMO, if Bailey chooses to sign for Boro (assuming he sees them as a team capable of promotion THIS season) ..... then he gets to play in the Premier, the season after.

It would be exactly the same reason as why he signed for Charlton.
