[cite]Posted By: somerton[/cite]Talk of £1000,000 is unrealistic, when the the sums mentioned for Daren Ambrose of championship side palace was£750,000 for example from QPR, and Daren is a far better player. So I would expect around £500,000 to 600,000 for Bailey with a good sell on clause.
Ambrose was priced at £750,000 by Palace before their takeover ..... that club was only days away from the Administrator pulling the plug. So IMO his price represented a firesale cutprice bargain borne out of urgent need and desperation.
At Charlton, while the need is there to raise funds and selling their most marketable asset is the obvious move, the desperation or urgency for a first come first served' sale doesn't appear to be necessary.
As there seems to be reported interest from around 6 clubs, then apparently Charlton are in a position to hold out for the best price possible.
Ultimately, of course, like buying houses or second hand cars, a player is only worth whatever a buyer is prepared to pay.
[cite]Posted By: johnny73[/cite]if we are certain that bailey is going then a million would be more than expected. However if i had a choice i'd keep bailey as we are not going to sign anyone better or even of the same ability.
I'd like to keep Bailey and it's a good point but you could argue that Millwall didn't have a midfielder equal to or better than Bailey's level of ability...yet they won promotion because they had a good all round team with the right balance.
Yep, great work if it's true. I sincerely hope that it's all up front. What do we think the board would give Parky to play with. £500k would get us out of this league IMHO.

IMO the biggest problem has been fitting Bailey into the team - he doesn't compliment Semedo in the way that Racon does,
The problem with that is if you had semedo and Racon where would the goals come from. He brings so much more to the table than Racon keeping Semedo company.
£1.5m would be very good, but we'll seriously miss him if we don't find a goalscorer from somewhere.

I doubt Parky will have anything to spend. The Shelvey and most likely Bailey money will surely be needed to cover costs and wages.

Avoiding administration and paying wages is good enough for me, expectation levels are suitably lowered.
surprised at you lot. Cause it's in the Mail it's true ? That is just a rehash of the story in yesterday's SLP. Not saying it isn't true, it may turn out to be, but when did we accept anything that rag had to say ? I still think he'll go to Norwich.
anything over £1m would be excellent business by Murray et al as teams know we are skint and will be offering us joke money as they used to in the late 80s and early 90s

You could be right.
REPORTS that Boro have agreed a fee with Charlton for Nicky Bailey are wide of the mark.
The London-born 26-year-old is one of Gordon Strachan’s top summer transfer targets and a national newspaper this morning reported that Athletic had accepted a bid of £1.5m for the goal-scoring midfielder.
But the Gazette understands that the report is inaccurate.
If it is true then very relieved it is not less than a million. Had a real fear we would be offered 750k(ish) and accept.
It is doubtful I know, but maybe of the 1.5 million, there may be a tiny bit of money available for Johnny Jackson who would be my choice to replace Bailey in the centre of midfield.
£1m+ for a player of limited ability and with only a year left on his contract seems very steep. What would his value be in January with 6 months left, £200k if that?
He is massively overvalued by many so I reckon if Bailey goes this summer it will be for an "undisclosed" amount to keep the real fee secret. A lot of people will be dissapointed to see him go for anything less than £1m but he can't be worth that much to another club surely?

It's called summer, Tel ...... next week there'll be no one speculating about Charlton on here.
It'll be moaning about how crap we are in the World Cup.
Just helps to pass the time. ;o)

He turned down Celtic and is apparantly close to signing for Boro (that was at the start of the week)
He doesn't want to go that far but there have been no other offers for him and the club want to cash in on him

'I'll believe it when it's on the OS'

Repeat after me:
'Ommmmmmmmmmmm'

Why's that, we paid £750,000 for him...and I can assure you there's plenty of interest...what odd comments.
I heard from an unreliable source we'd already turn down two offers but it wasn't on the OS so not kosher.
