The issue is surely whether what was said in the Mail is correct.
Most seem to accept that much of it may well be not that far from the truth.
We could be lurching towards administration , regardless of what happens tomorrow night - yet we appear more interested in shooting the messenger for his 'bad timing' .
A few remarks:
Airman Brown did NOT make the comments quoted, he has other reasons to provoke debate, and is man enough to put his money where his mouth is.
The Mail article may have been propelled by a journalist who previously had connections with the club.
The Mail is delighted we now have a government led by that snide toff Cameron.
'From Portakabins to Porto Captains' was a book so poorly written, and boring and unstructured it is the only Charlton related book I couldn't be bothered/manage to finish.
Airman Brown has arguably contributed more to this club in the last 25 years than any Charlton Supporting non-millionaire, not a football groupie or a poser, but a person who simply wants what we all want, for our club to thrive.
In the above regard people such as Prague Addick, AFKA, and indeed Kevin Nolan share the same unselfish stance...as do others, many unsung and unnamed.
The Mail is crap journalism anyway, if it trawled CL then the better story would be the possibility of a CEO becoming a Director of Football. Mind you I don't ever ever read that paper, all I know is that it is very right wing and reactionary, without the humour of the Telegraph where at least you can read the obits of dead Tories!
Seth Plum did not leak anything and remains a single rather insignificant lifelong Charlton Athletic supporter who only wants our club to survive.
...And Seth Plum will sing louder than any other fan tomorrow, and he does not slag off the team or players at any time in matches.

[quote][cite]Posted By: aliwibble[/cite]I believe the common internet response to such rumour-mongering is "pics or it didn't happen". Can the journo concerned back up his story with screenshots of the comments that he is quoting? If not, I think a retraction is in order.[/quote]
I would not hold your breath for a retraction, I suspect that will have to wait in line for all the other ones they should be doing.
When was that last very bad article mick collins wrote about the club that Richard Murray felt the need to talk about it in a Q an A we had at the Valley with dave white? He was shocked by the article written by a fan of the club then.

He does however, speak about himself in the 3rd person.
didn't the last article by mick collins say we had debts between £30-40million which were thought to be too high but with some of the figures bandied about today(by pompey/palace etc) maybe it wasn't too high but as long as the debt is 'friendly' we'll be ok , i hope
[cite]Posted By: Airman Brown[/cite]Off_it, why has no such action been taken thus far, do you think? I would welcome a process in which the contribution of the chief executive to the running of the club is examined by members of the board and senior staff are able to give their views on the record.
Airman, you either have balls of steel or some compromising pictures. If I'd been ripping into my CEO on a public forum where my identity was known and said ripping had been reported in a national newspaper I'd not expect the process that followed to be one in which said CEO has their contribution scrutinised.
I think we really need to draw a line under this as it is imperative it does not dominate the short-term. It appears in my eyes a fabricated set of quotes to provoke an unnecessary scare story at an ill-conceived time. The credence and debate it is given on here and elsewhere, the more the journalist / source will feel justified, and the more likely it would be to disrupt us.
If i am incorrect in those facts, then i would love to be proved otherwise.
Whatever the future of our club, it is 1,000 times more likely to be impacted by what happens ON THE PITCH tomorrow night at The Valley than in a snakey MoS snippet article.
Well, this story has rumbled on all day. I think it's sufficiently big to gain the ubiquitous ~gate suffix. Lifergate anyone? Or what about Airmangate?
CHAIRMAN Richard Murray admits Charlton will tonight battle for their future as well as a place at Wembley.
Charlton’s financial situation is so dire the club accepted £1.75m from Liverpool for Jonjo Shelvey rather than include the midfield star for their play-off semi-final on Friday.
The board were afraid the deal would collapse if Shelvey got injured so they let him to go to Anfield instead of facing Swindon, who won the first leg 2-1.
“Everyone knows it’s a hugely important game for the club,” said Murray.
Good way to heap more pressure on a team with a fragile confidence as it is. If we lose and go out it seems unimaginable that we may go belly up. The Shelvey dealt smealt of desperation from the off. We are within spitting distance of one of the financial centers of the world and nobody wants to throw some our way. Sad days and a little unfair to pin the future of this club on this group of players and manager because of the poor board descisions of the past few years.
do people think that the players got up this morning and just thought about wnning tonight and maybe their only chance ever to play at wembley or that they are still reeling from this shocking exposé and possibly have had no sleep all weekend anyway?
Can't imagine that the players care less - or even know - about sniping on Charlton Life. Potential investors might be less relaxed about the story, because it illustrates - perhaps incorrectly - what an unhappy ship the organisation is. Would you want to buy an organisation that isn't only in a financial mess, but one in which staff members think it's OK to reveal their CEO's salary and air complaints about them? That's a lot of mess. Whatever the rights and wrongs about what has been said, it shows the poorest judgement. There's a saying about washing dirty linen in public that applies.
We know a lot more about the history of this story now. I am not giving chapter and verse, but I think in my own defence I should say that the club has established the quote did not come from a message board and did not come from me.
Indeed, the person who apparently spoke to the reporter (not Derek Hunter) is not a member of staff.
The charitable way of looking at this is that there was confusion about the information that was passed on for the story. Or the individuals concerned were sloppy. Or it was written up in this way to make it a better story.

Yup - Airman killed the takeover.
And there was me thinking it was MOG hitting F5!!
As I said before - potential investors would not be put off a bid as a result of any of this crap. If they came in they'd probably put their own CEO into the company and Waggott would be out on his arse anyway (is that a champagne cork I heard popping Mr Plum!)
At the end of the day none of this is ground breaking news and none of it matters right now.
The only thing that matters is tonight at 745 for the biggest game in our recent history - and if the story is anything to go by then its probably one of the biggest in our history.
Can we please draw a line under this and the Waggott story just for today.

As one of the elder supporters can I please ask all of you TODAY & TONIGHT to just concentrate on supporting out team in this vital match. The Daily Fail can wait until tomorrow when we will all be clamouring for Wembley tickets
100% behind Airman. We should be lucky we have someone like that who obviously loves the club speaking up.
Quite a few of us were worried about board issues etc 5 years ago, let alone what's transpired since then. Anyone who didn't think our club is in deep s**t *before* reading that thread was quite simply deluded or had their head deep in the sand.
But I agree let's forget it til after tonight's match at least.
I've just spent only God knows how long trawling through this thread:
[cite]Posted By: KBslittlesis[/cite]We'll have plenty of time to pontificate but only one chance to be united as a Club to help ease the pain we're going through.
Well said, Lil'sis!
We all know the Daily Mail is bigoted prejudiced shite.
Navel gazing, scapegoat hunting or doing our dirty washing in public - what's the point, especially today of all days?

Bang on!
Put all your energy behind the team tonight.
We do want promotion, don't we?

The Daily Mail, through Patrick and Mick Collins in particular, has been a good friend to Charlton Athletic over the years.
I think in our heart of hearts we know that there is a lot of truth in the story and some are in denial and thus abusing the paper. Shooting the messenger in other words.
As things stand all we can do is get behind the team tonight. If, by some miracle, we manage to win by two clear goals then we do the same at Wemley. If, by an even bigger miracle, we beat Millwall at Wembley we address the off pitch problems then.

I never read the Waggot thread. Just smacked of more finger pointing & who can we blame for where we are today stuff.
Just because i choose to ignore the Clubs plight in the run up to our most important game in my lifetime doesnt mean i care any less.
We'll have plenty of time to pontificate but only one chance to be united as a Club to help ease the pain we're going through.
The timing of this is worse than the sale of Shelvey imo. And i'm not talking about the article.
I feel sick.
thats what i meant in my drunken ramblings and i feel sick too but not for the same reason as kb
