As for lisbie, could and should have been top draw. Fustrating to the max. Hatrick v liverpool then couldn't hit a barn door the next. If he was that bad he wouldn't have stayed around as long as he did unlike charlie macdonald etc.. I clapped him when his name was read out.
never thought I'd say it but I'd prefer Kevin over Mooney and Crap-poo at the moment. Found his level maybe but at this level he ain't bad. I don't think many Charlton fans actually hated him, he was, like Sam, a very frustrating player. You knew he could do it but didn't do so nowhere near regularly enough, think he's happy with his lot, earning enough to keep him happy and he's never really pushed himself to do better. He is a nice bloke and if people have any real animosity towards him then I don't understand that.
[quote][cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]Many players are 'confidence players' ....... they don't always cope so easily when things are not going well for them; they need an arm round the shoulder and a little bit of moral support. When they are on a good run, however, they're flying and perform very well.
If you think about it, it's human nature - and many people are like this in all walks of life, so nothing out of the ordinary there.
Some players try to block out booing and barracking by their own supporters - but other players try even harder, and that edge of desperation and anxiety comes into their play as they try too hard, miss-timing and overhitting the ball; with the result that their performance deteriorates even more.
Kevin Lisbie was such a player. And when as a Charlton player, did he perform better as a result of the booing and barracking? ..... No, he just knew whatever he did, would never be good enough in the eyes of our supporters.
Why is it our supporters always need a scapegoat ....?[/quote]
Nail on head as usual Oggy. Far from being a crap player, Lisbie's problem was that whenever he started to find the back of the net, and thus build up his confidence, he promptly picked up a long term injury straight after. It happened after he hit two against Spurs and again after the Liverpool hat trick. I happened to feel extremely sorry for the guy that he wasn't able to build on his newly found confidence. For some strange reason other so called fan's chose to blame him for getting injured and picking up a big salary whilst spending so much time on the treatment table, as if he had any choice in the matter!! He did read the crap that was written about him on the forums, his family showed it to him. How embarrassing for the poor bloke! I'm sure it did wonders for his confidence. Typically though, he said to me, that, although it hurt, he was very well paid so just had to live with it. I'm not surprised at all that his red card has been revoked, completely out of character as I said earlier. It does concern me that once again it was Bailey involved in an opposing player getting sent off and once again we don't get to see the incident on CAFC Player highlights.
i still think its funny when Curbs gave him the No.10 shirt and then a year later took it away from him and then sent him on loan to Derby and Norwich!
[quote][cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]yeah thats right it was the injurys........embrace the fact that he was without doubt a pile of shite for us[/quote]
For us (mainly in Premiership against some of the worlds best defenders) 68 starts 19 goals = 1 goal every 3.5 games on loan 17 starts 6 goals = 1 goal every 3 games
[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]You're fighting a losing battle queensland.
So did Lisbie....unfortunately!
Let's face it Curb_it....like it or not, nice fella or not....he was crap in an Addicks shirt.....the stats speak for themselves.

Obviously injuries played a part but you surely have to question why he only started 68 games in about 10 years.
He wasn't useless but there weren't many performances to remember either.

Well you obviously didn't read the stats, so here they are again : -
For us (mainly in Premiership against some of the worlds best defenders) 68 starts 19 goals = 1 goal every 3.5 games
on loan 17 starts 6 goals = 1 goal every 3 games
Doesn't include sub appearances.
Personally I don't think that's too bad and would suggest that he wasn't crap in a Charlton shirt.
Sadly a certain type of Charlton fan has always liked a scapegoat.
Some say Lisbie did not give his all yet nobody could level that accusation at Kishishev, another player whom was often booed when his name was read out a la Mooney.
All I'll say is that both Kishishev and Lisbie played most of their matches when we were a mid table Premier side and thus successful by our standards.
Oh I forgot. A lot of fans hated that didn't they. Boring mid table Premiership football they called it.
I guess Curbishley most of all but certainly Kishishev and Lisbie deserve to be harangued by our so called "fans" after all....

It's very difficult for a forward returning after a seemingly endless succession of long term injuries into a fairly weak forward line to make an immediate impact.
If he didn't score after the first two games back, the crowd would get on his back, his confidence would suffer and he'd be dropped to the subs bench. It was the combination of bad luck, long term injuries, lack of confidence/composure in front of goal and the lack of support that contrived against him during his Charlton career.
Those factors have reversed since he moved to Colchester and that is reflected in his performances and in the support he receives from the Colchester fans.
[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]I take it you've never played football competitively yourself, Gary....?
Come on Oggy, you're not allowed an opinion on football if you're not a pro? Does that apply to positive opinions too? I'm not a lisbo hater myself but this is illogical thinking.
Have you ever said you liked or disliked a movie, a TV show or a CD, but not made a living as an actor or musician
Are you telling me I can't say if I like dinner at a restaurant because I've never been a chef?

Hmm - plus his 108 subs appearances that make approx 1 goal every 9 or so games
Yep - utter shite.

Len,
Kish, Lisbie and perhaps even Mooney? are similar types of characters, nice, quiet conscientious guys who are not into publicity and just want to get on with their jobs and give it the best they have got.
Unfortunately, these days, as in most walks of life, if you're not gobby or confrontational you can soon find yourself being victimised.
It's very sad, but it seems to be the way of the world ATM.
So if someone was defining a "crap" or "gash" player I doubt that high on their list would be a player who scored 2 goals for a national team in 10 appearances, who played regularly and scored for a premiership team. We are all entitled to opinions, and whilst we can all recall moments when superkev might have hit the net but didn't, he made a significant contribution to this club, by no means the largest, but equally but no means as little as some on here suggest. In my opinion, of course ;-)

Sir, you are a center of first class backwards, and espermos verte to play during many anuses.

I know Curb_it. I just don't like injustice in any way shape or form.
So did Lisbie....unfortunately!

He averaged 7 games a season for 10 years. Curbs obviously thought he wasnt a good enough player...so did some fans. get over it.
