  • unfortunately every club has a knob contingent - even ours....
  • Did anyone on this forum here it? If so, what did you do?
  • Im glad my 6'3'' black mate didnt hear it in the north upper....otherwise it would have been the Valley of death last night. Whats wrong with these mugs?!!
  • [cite]Posted By: Off_it[/cite]Regardless of how he played for us - over many many seasons - the amount and level of racist abuse he was given last night was an absolute fucking disgrace.

It's shit like that that makes me hate being Charlton. Verminous SCUM.

    Every club has em, sadly.
  • [cite]Posted By: Off_it[/cite]Did anyone on this forum here it? If so, what did you do?
Nope, didn't hear it, but then I'm over in the East. I did cheer when Lloyd Sam took him out on the halfway line, but that was more because I didn't know Lloyd had it in him.
  • Was he selected for the game? He was on the bench that Saturday but never came on. No doubt counting his money & wondering what nightclub to go to that night. But thats by the by. In my opinion, the night before a crucial game any player who maybe called upon to play should be tucked up in bed with a horlicks. And if anyone heard racists comments then why did you not deal with it there & then? Why wait & post it on a messageboard. They're our fans, like it or not & we should deal with them.
  • George Best enjoyed being tucked up in bed with a Horlicks . Allegedly.
  • & look what happened to him ;-)
some just dont deserve to have the talent they are given
  • Didn't notice anyone booing him particularly - obviously plenty of cheers when he was sent off and I joined in with that as I would when any player is sent off against us (esp when we are only 1-0 up in a must win game).
  • KBsis I understand completely what you are saying but I suspect players see football as their job whereas we see "lucky bstds" and like all of us, we sometimes go out for a drink or 10 when we have work the next day.
I'm not condoning it, or saying I would want that if I had a team of players, I would expect a little more self discipline from them, BUT i'm saying that from the perspective of an old fart, not a 20 something who has a ton of energy and feels they can handle a late night and still deliver on the pitch.
Kids eh. Wasn't like that in my day ;-)

  • [cite]Posted By: Clem_Snide[/cite]I'd argue that 90% of his performances for us were gash.

I disagree. It was a much higher percentage than that...

However, no player, ex or otherwise, rubbish or not, should be subject to racist abuse at the The Valley and I hope that those responsible will get dealt with (by the authourities) should they do so again.
  • Exactly Valleyman, I didn't think he got a bad reception, just some stick when he was sent off? And he's always had good receptions in the past too. Pointless debate really, other than the racist stuff-very disappointing if true.
  • i sit close to the tunnel north lower between F & E block and didnt hear anything apart from some muppet shouting at parkey about change the tactics and booing, this was when we were 1-0 up....muppet...
  • COLCHESTER United were given a major boost today with the news that Kevin Lisbie’s three-match suspension has been overturned by the Football Association.

The 31-year-old striker was sent off by referee Michael Jones at Charlton on Tuesday night after he went head-to-head with opposition skipper Nicky Bailey.

A failed appeal could have potentially seen Lisbie miss out on Colchester’s late push for the play-offs, but manager Aidy Boothroyd will now have his top goalscorer available.

“I think in situations like this you put your faith in the system,” said the U’s boss.

“The FA and referees get a lot of bad press but a lot of the time it is totally unjustified. When you get a result like this, common sense prevails.”
  • does it say anywhere why it was rescinded ?
  • i always had a bit of a soft-spot for Lisbie, since he made the full recovery from the tumor in his nose.
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: addick16[/cite]i always had a bit of a soft-spot for Lisbie, since he made the full recovery from the tumor in his nose.[/quote]

And a few days prior to having the major surgery on his nose, after which he ended up in intensive care, he played a full game up front on his own, and ran his socks off. Say's it all about the man, and the muppets that booed him.

well i think it's out of order that
    1) he didn't play for free
2)he didn't stay in every night of his charlton career
    3) he wasn't as good as darren bent (although he definitely had his talent)
    4) he didn't throw the toys out of his pram and insist on a starting place which meant he was comfortable taking the money(he should have offered to only have got paid for first team performances, greedy money grabbing scumbag)
    5) he feigned all those injuries and still had the liberty to take wages
6)he didn't support charlton ...which would have meant we all loved him no matter how pony and useless he actually was

Yeah thats right, when we are 1-0 up in a must win game and 'super Kev' dont stop whining and giving it to our captain....all i could think about was his nose.

  • Im sure kevin wasnt surprised to be booed. He even said it to my mate when he played for us about how the charlton fans hated him.

stupid comment by the way gary.
  • all i could think about was his nose.

stupid - or okay just sarcastic.
  • Perhaps slightly tasteless, but i was simply being sarcastic Curb_it. He was booed because he played for us and was on the whole a poor player. Some people questioned his commitment to the club, i dont know about that....all i know is that he got a a bit of stick, and rightly so, as he is an ex player. It certainly wasnt hardcore abuse from the people around me.
  • Many players are 'confidence players' ....... they don't always cope so easily when things are not going well for them; they need an arm round the shoulder and a little bit of moral support. When they are on a good run, however, they're flying and perform very well.

If you think about it, it's human nature - and many people are like this in all walks of life, so nothing out of the ordinary there.

Some players try to block out booing and barracking by their own supporters - but other players try even harder, and that edge of desperation and anxiety comes into their play as they try too hard, miss-timing and overhitting the ball; with the result that their performance deteriorates even more.

Kevin Lisbie was such a player. And when as a Charlton player, did he perform better as a result of the booing and barracking? ..... No, he just knew whatever he did, would never be good enough in the eyes of our supporters.

Why is it our supporters always need a scapegoat ....?

    or.....he was crap.
  • I take it you've never played football competitively yourself, Gary....?

We're no better or worse than any other supporters...you often give ex-players a bit of stick....it's par for course, variuos players for various reasons get varying amounts.

Bren, sorry only just seen this thread I said :

Senor, usted es un centro de primera clase hacia atras, y esper mos verte jugar durante muchos anos...

Something like that.. means sir you a top class centre back and we hope to see you for many years.. I think.

Or words to those affect ;-)

Lucky my spainish teacher was fit so I payed attention and wanted to impress her!
  • Dartford, VCD, Pittsburgh University, Phoenix Sports....yes i have. I never earned £6000 a week and i can handle a bit of verbal. If poor old Kev cant, then he's in the wrong game.
Can i just also mention that my earlier post states that i always try and get behind players.....when they are playing for the club!!!.... Kevin Lisbie is not a Charlton player.
