[cite]Posted By: AFKABartram[/cite] Can't for the life of me understand why some people boo and harangue him like they do, just don't get it.
Should we have cheered him then? He was being an idiot all night, moaning at every decision, got our players booked as well.
[cite]Posted By: 3blokes[/cite] True he missed chances like they all do but you have to have got in the right position to miss them in the first place.
Never quite understand this comment. So it's ok if a player is rubbish and misses loads of chances as long as he gets in the positions to miss them?
[cite]Posted By: ValleyGary[/cite]If he's not wearing a Charlton Kit then he can get some stick, as long as its not too personal. Part & parcel of going back to your old club.
Exactly my thoughts on it. All players generally get stick when returning to an old club unless they were a hero (like Henry going back to Arsenal for example). Charlton fans are just too nice.
He's a (not very good) ex player, he was moaning and whingeing all night then got sent off for aiming a headbutt at our captain and people question why he was booed.
[cite]Posted By: PeteF[/cite]I really felt sad that he had got sent off, and not really sure he deserved the derision aimed at him, there are only a few ex players I would consider booing, and Lisbie is not one of them, for his hat trick against Liverpool alone he does not deserve that treatment. I
Very out of character I'd say, if he headbutted Bailey. He's a lovely fella and deserves far better from Charlton fans who only seem to remember the Liverpool hat trick and forget about the brace against Spurs, the last minute winner at Stamford Bridge or the 25 yard cracker at Ipswich, plus countless others. Or the numerous amount of assists and openings that his speed and skill created for others.
It makes me very angry when our so called fans treat one of our own products and a good guy so badly.
Blimey sounds like you're talking about Super Clive,Stuart Leary, Eddie Firmani or Killer....Lisbie was very very average for us and wasn't missed in the slightest when he left (which wasn't before time it must be said), can't understand how you rate him so highly, as a Charlton player anyway? He wasn't called Kevin Missbie for nothing.
Wasn't bad I suppose but in all the years I've been watching Charlton he's certainly not one of the ones I'd look back on with fond memories or that much pleasure.
Nice bloke by all accounts.....though he wasn't last night.

'Plus countless others'. He scored 19 goals in 10 years, and 5 of those were in 2 of the games that you mentioned. That's 19 goals in 176 games (starts + subs) as a striker!! Yes he was unstoppable against Liverpool and Spurs but he was by and large an enigma during 95% of his career with us.
[cite]Posted By: Can-addick[/cite]If he got stick from you lot last night, just wait until he comes back after signing for Millwall, as suggested on SSN twitter feed!
[cite]Posted By: Chris_from_Sidcup[/cite]So it's ok if a player is rubbish and misses loads of chances as long as he gets in the positions to miss them?
Compared to the strikers who score only rarely - but seem clinical with every chance they get?
There is an art to reading a game and as a striker ensuring you're in the right place at the right time.
Also SuperKev was playing in the Prem for us, generally against established experienced internationals.
He would often tear them apart in open play - but that big moment in front of goal was his weakness at that level.
He still did well to get in the right places at the right time, otherwise he would never have missed some of those chances - and the reason he did was invariably a lack of composure - and that's down to mental strength, single-mindedness and decisiveness......... and a lack of self-confidence that a run of scoring goals puts right.
But no matter how technically adept or focused the player, he still needs to know how to get in the right place at the right time, otherwise he won't score either.
Making a comparison in the current Charlton team, look at the difference in the goal-scoring records of say, Racon and Bailey.
How many attempts on goal does Racon have? And how many goals has he scored?
Now compare that to Bailey, who invariable gets into the right places - he misses plenty, but still scores a sackload more than Racon, despite playing fairly similar roles.
Football is played in the head, as much as ability on the ball. And that lack of mental strength was a principle reason Lisbie didn't cut it as a lethal Prem goalscorer. He had everything else.
Yeah - just like goalies who let the ball roll through their legs into the net. At least they had positioned themselves in right place to be behind the shot.

Lack of concentration, that's all.
As I was saying, football is a game played in the head, as much as ability on the ball.
Sorry, after seeing him sipping pints of lager playing pool in a Lewisham pub the day before a crucial game whilst we were fighting to stay in the Prem, he'll get no change from me. We gave him the perfect platform to deliever, he didn't & we got rid. Far later than we should have imo but there you are.

There is a current charlton player who will remain nameless who was trying to pull someone in a club at 2 in the morning before our first millwall encounter. That stuff goes on always has done and will do so in the future. It's maybe not what we would like to think about as fans but these are young blokes and in their position I'm sure I would be much the same, as would many others on here if we're honest. Kevin Lisbie was a good player for us and it was often his presence that caused defences problems that led to our our players scoring. His goal scoring record does not do his contribution justice, he did lack some composure in front of goal as we all saw but he never hid and if Di Canio rated him highly, as he did, then he must have been half decent. If we had him with deon I'd be happy. Anyway, it's an old debate, I just think he deserved a better reception from us last night.

Was the player in question in the squad for that game? If not, as I suspect, I can't say I'm bothered, young lads using their status to try and get some action, frankly I'd be more disappointed if they didn't!
Corner Flag Striker... to the tune of paperback writer.
I don't hate Kevin Lisbie, but he is and always will be a corner flag striker. One in a thousand runs he'll spank a goal, all the other times he miraculously'll run towards or hit the corner flag. Good player at this level but equally he ain't a consistent champ striker, or neither would he be a for a team that had any hopes/pressures for play offs. Varney, Kim Grant and Lisbie were/are all corner flag strikers.
we are far too nice about crap players that have pulled on a charlton shirt. While they play for the club, then support them. When they feck off then we can say what we like!
Kevin Lisbie was pelt for Charlton.....
10 seasons he was geting our money i would think for 3 seasons he had injuries and for 50% of the games he played in he was pony--- thats another 3 seasons min. so he got paid his 10 seasons worth of OUR cash for aprox 3 seasons he actually did anything.
so what do we owe this guy ? what does CAFC owe this guy? what do we as CAFC fans owe this guy? -----------------------nothing,buggerall,zero,zilch--------he owes US big time.
LIsbie ???? so what just another guy with some talent that didnt ever live up to his press.
I dont give a rats arse if he never shows up at The Valley again.
What Goonerhater said. I'd argue that 90% of his performances for us were gash.
He was at it from the off last night. Complaining at every decision and in Baileys face.
Have to say he is supassed in the twat stakes by Kemi Izzett what a truly obnoxious little twat he really is. 3/4 times last night he was asking for bookings. Several niggles off the ball as well.
[cite]Posted By: 3blokes[/cite]Kevin Lisbie was a good player for us and it was often his presence that caused defences problems that led to our our players scoring
I'm sorry 3blokes, but I think that's baloney.
In fact I'd go so far as to say that our other players might have got a lot more goals had he removed his blinkers and passed to those in better positions occasionally.
There is no doubt that his pace and direct running worried defenders and he was capable of creating his own chances; but that is immaterial if he lacked the belief and conviction to finish or the vision to find a teammate.
He was such a frustrating player because you could see he had the raw materials to be a top player.
But 19 goals in 10 years tells the story.
I remember when his supporters hailed his hattrick against Liverpool as the kick-start that we'd been waiting for.
Instead it was the highlight of his career.
Unfulfilled potential in my book and as frustrating a players as you could wish for; I used to feel like shaking and slapping him - believe in yourself for heavens sake. Grow some.
It feels rather strange to be going over this debate again but whatever our view of Lisbie it is clear Curbs Day and Peacock saw merit in him and chose to pick him regularly in the Premiership over other players. I think some of the views of him on this thread are pretty harsh but hey, it's an old story, we can look at the old DVDs and trawl our memories and reach different conclusions about the player. Onwards and upwards to Saturday. ;-)

Well, it's all about opinions mate and nobody seemed to polarise opinion like SuperKev.
I have to say, of course he was being judged at the highest level; and as much as he frustrated me then I'd love to have him with us at the level we are now!
Regardless of how he played for us - over many many seasons - the amount and level of racist abuse he was given last night was an absolute fucking disgrace.
It's shit like that that makes me hate being Charlton. Verminous SCUM.
