  • We are a shambles. But the blame for that today lies squarely with the defence.
Execrable defending against a piss-poor team.

[cite]Posted By: WhenIwasLittleBoy[/cite]Bottom line is Parkie is not the man to take us forward after last weeks humiliation the boos at half time thay team should have come out in the second half and torn a strip off of gillingham

The proof is pretty much there to see though that it only knocks the team's confidence.

Lets try a new approach and get behind the players when they're going through the best run of form?
  • Stayed up to watch the goals on the Football League show.

Credit to Mooney. He took his goal with a composure that was even more impressive than I realised at the time. Cracking piece of skill. And the celebration!
  • sorry to say tjis but shelvy has my daughter added on facebook he has said he mo longer wants to play for charlton as parky cannot garentee him a game every week .
we do not have a goal machine at the club
    our defence is crap
we should have had wagstaf and shelvy starting today
none of us are managers but we could all see what was missing , if we can see it so should the manager
play the ball on the deck it beats teams in this leauge
just look at the size of most centrte backs
moots is not playing due to a £3000, apperancr fee per game , well if we were playimg well we would have more bums on sears
so where is the sense in that ??

sorry but this is my veiw

[cite]Posted By: pshrimpt[/cite]Good on you Parky! I'm right behind you and the team, the majority of fans understand the contraints he and the club are under. The booing at half-time was totally unacceptable and I was ashamed to be amongst them today, the game was ok although the team are clearly being affected by some of the abuse. I was happy to see Mooney have his dig back at the boo boys after the superb goal and he is quite right! This period is a test of the club, the team and the fans (some are failing badly!). I would like to know why Racon reacted the way he did, personally I find his dissent an insult to the manager and the club, no player is bigger than the club and if i ever met him would tell him so. The squad should be pulling together, if he needs to go then fine by me.

What is the gaffer's role then? How is the piss poor attitude of some on the team not the responsibility of the manager? Of all the troubling signs, the worst (to me) is that Parkinson appears to continue to lose more and more of the team as the season winds down.

Im sure the boos really inspired them..... (shakes head)

Im delighted that Parky has come out and had a go at the "fans" .....

with a support group like you, how could we fail?
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: Se12Addick[/cite]Racon set up a goal, and actually was involved at times - even if not much. Bailey did absolutely NOTHING, he was terrible. Fair play to Mooney for the goal, it was a decent finish, but cupping his ear to the north? Pack it in, given how badly some of this lot have played lately they really have NO right to be getting petulant with the fans - there was a decent attendance today in spite of last weekend, they should think about that. There were signs of life today, we actually looked like we might score for one. I thought Semedo had a fine game too, good on him for trying to go forward at times too - its obviously not what hes about, but he tried. [/quote]

Spot on. Once again another below average team come away from the Valley with a point or more. If Mooney took half his chances he would be on 20 plus this season. Bailey is a shadow of the player he was in the first half of the season and our defence on many occasion's look like rabbits caught in the glare of the headlights. At least Racon tried to pass the ball around and Semedo got stuck in like he used to. I will be a nervous wreck and alcoholic by the end of the season. Again.

On paper our easiest home game remaining and we failed to win.

We created plenty of chances and were the better side but we just don't seem able to defend for 90 mins. Sodje is a step up from Llera but he was dodgy at times as well.

Gills were another poor team who have worked out that a big centre forward or two can beat up our CHs and get a few chances.

In mitigation we lost our best forward in Burton early on, A. Sodje looked injured most of the game and the forced replacement of Elliot meant we had only one sub option left when we needed more.

As for Mooney, great goal and perhaps he was entitled to give back some of the stick he's got with the cupped ear. But personally I want more from a forward. Yes he did better today but Gills were a terrible side.

The defence of Dickson was always that the rest of his game might be poor but he put the ball in the net. Those Lifers who defended Dickson thus must then defend Mooney in the same way. For me, it didn't wash with Dickson and it still doesn't with Mooney.

Very disallusioned with Parky. Where was the shake up? Borrowdale was an obvious one as really was Sam Sodje. The only other change was Sam back in.

Four Derbies this season (six if you count Orient) but how many points? The players haven't lifted themselves in these games and the management haven't done it either. Not good enough.

I can still see us making the play-offs mainly as no one seems to be winning games (other than Millwall) but gawd help us if and when we get there.
  • Another frustrating afternoon once again where these are the sorts of games we should be winning.
Unlucky to hit the bar twice in the first half, but that second goal we conceded was as soft as you like. Great strike from Mooney for the 2nd goal
Time for some changes in my opinion now.

Randolph back in goal, as Elliot is making too many errors in recent weeks, and his confidence looks shot at present. Bailey back in centre mid with Semedo holding, as Nicky is wasted out on the left. Jonjo on the right, and Reid on the left, with Burton (if fit) upfront with Mooney.

Thats the most balanced view on this thread and closest to my view. Dread getting Millwall in the playoffs.

  • Mooney goal looked great. So easy to screw up an opportunity like that when it comes along.

    Echo all of that.
  • I think we lost the midfield battle to a really average team. I put this down to Bailey playing out of position and Sam not playing wide right but taking up inside right positions all the time. So many times Racon has to cover for others and he never seems to get going. I like him and actually feel sorry for the bloke. I can understand why he was frustrated at being taken off.

Richardson is poor. He hasn't won a header all season. Ok with the ball at feet, but doesn't get forward like he was at the start of the season (despite the flukey goal obviously). This is probably a bi-product of Sam cutting in every time he gets the ball. They don't link up and overlap etc.

Mooney was MOTM for me. He did a good job and kept the ball well and took his goal really well. Would have preferred a different celebration.
  • So much talk about strikers but we need to stop conceding goals. Mooney and Akpo aren't great at all but at least getting a few goals here and there. Makes their job much harder if we have to score at least 3 goals to win some games.

Always like to see Colins opinion and many won't agree with what he posted in this thread but he's right about the midfield. There's some quality there for this league but they can't take control of a game, there is something missing there. We've had that problem for a while now even with a completely different midfield.

Large mentioned he thinks there are strikers out there, but I'm not convinced. Who can we afford that is available, scores goals but also has a decent work rate and offers more than just being a goalscorer? I suppose the point was more that we could afford a bigger wage on one player if we didn't have Mooney, Akpo and Borrowdale, but then we'd also be taking a risk in only having one striker, and if he got injured we wouldn't have many options. Can't remember where it was but a Leeds fan was moaning about Dickov the other day, we aren't the only club struggling to find good strikers we can take on loan.

Like I said if we defend better and keep clean sheets, we'd only need to score one goal to win a game. Would be nice to not have to use subs up on injuries as well.
  • Glad someone else thinks that Richardson has been poor. Can`t remember last time he had a good game. Mooney did ok yesterday. worked hard a scored a good goal but over last months has been nothing better than average. Something is drastically wrong at Charlton these days. Third in league. Fans on the managers and players backs. Manager having pop at supporters. Players having a go at fans (Mooney) and players beating up the dugout. Can`t see this having a happy ending to be honest.
  • It will certainly get worse before it gets better!
  • Couldn't make it yesterday but haven't been impressed with Richardson in a while. He is what he is, a standard top half League One full back. Decent defensively and going forward but makes too many mistakes to really be Chsmpionship standard.
  • Richardson is cack would rather Solly play right back
  • [cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]Richardson is cack would rather Solly play right back
Even after his 30 yard screamer yesterday?
  • richardson's constant running straight into 'brick walls' is ridiculous and his touch of a football is shocking ... and as for his corners ...perlease

  • I think some of the criticism of Richardson is harsh but even if justified we lack height in the side and Solly won't solve that.
  • I thought his corners are a big plus.

He's in a run of bad form but he is a quality full back, you don't suddenly become bad but you can drop off the pace form-wise
  • wasnt at the game yesterday felt under the weather felt like shite apparently my pals said thats how we played nothing ever changes then.
  • I was really disheartened yesterday, thought we were very average against a poor side and can't see us beating any top half teams in this form. I have to put it down to management. When you see how Poyet can turn around a teams fortunes with the same players it goes to prove it's as much about committment, desire, and organisation as it is about ability, and we do have a bit of that as well. I sat in the West Lower towards the away end yesterday and I was very disappointed with bailey for their second goal. He seemed more interested in trying to "do" their number 14 (I think) who he had a long run-in with and got totally mugged off. I dread to think where we'd be if it wasn't for him this season, but his credits are starting to run a bit thin now. I don't see him as a natural leader, and that is a big problem for us, we don't have any.

I can't see what people thought Racon did yesterday I though he was very ineffective when he had the ball, didn't dominate the midfield at all. I am shocked Shelvey hasn't been given his chance again, we need someone on the pitch who can turn a game, Bailey and Racon aren't doing it and our forwards....just not good enough for promotion chasers. We''ll limp into the playoffs, but go out first round in my opinion....very depressed.
  • Another frustrating and very disappointing afternoon.
Thought we deserved the win; but we had half and hour to win it after the equaliser and never really got close.
A shame we couldn't capitalise as the Gills weren't really in itin the 2nd half

    Some obsrervations:
    Class goal by Mooney.
Thought Borrowdale slotted in very well for a debut game with unfamiliar teammates.
His dead ball delivery from corners was also a marked improvement from what we've had of late.
  • Without a doubt we have the worst team i have ever seen play in a charlton shirt, others have told me that the 79-80 team was worse fortunatly i never saw that team.

I sat there watching keystone cop defending, i watched a midfield get pushed around by a team that has got 2 points away from home prior to saturday, we are toothless upfront.

Our manager is proving the majority of people that he is not able for the job

it was comical at times on saturday

The whole lot are clueless the movement off ball is shite the aticipation of 2nd ball non existant

i am hoping we are just hitting a tough patch but that is non realistic.

You ghet beat 4 nothing to your clubs rivals the week before and you tell us no one is hurting more than us?!!!

really PP really well if that is what a team that you say is hurting can do then it really is time you pissed off even if by some fluke of nature we make the playoffs and get through then you should be sacked because we will be back down with you at the helm,

The booing thing i was totally anti

Now though i am un sure

the fans had EVERY RIGHT to sound their displeasure at Half Time EVERY RIGHT 1-2 down with a performance like that

even at fulltime parky deserved to know what people thought, dont boo during the game i agree with but booo your heads off at halftime and fulltime if you please i dont give 2 shites anymore all.
  • but weren't Mooney's goal good NLA ;-)
  • I cant really be arsed, all I will say was that for me, condidering the opposition, it was no better than Millwall.

Some of the organisation in the back 5 in the first half was comical, improved in the second half when we had a goalkeeper on the pitch.

Parks rant was sligtly justified in that we have played worse over the last year or two but he doesnt help himself with some of his selections/tactics.

Im not seeing Shelvey in training every day so maybe he isnt doing it, but he has to be a better option than Racon. Borrowdale seems a waste of a loanee, Solly is better. Bailey needs a kick up the arse. Sam needs to go back to being a winger like at the start of the season....

Need a break from it, Huddersfield is massive as I see them beating us and us finishing 7th at the moment (although Colchester look equally shite), was going to go to franchise but will do it next year, Norwich and Leeds will both get promoted at The Valley, this is going to be painful

And finally, he could have had a hat trick on Saturday but nobody will ever ever ever ever convince me that Mooney is a professional footballer. Would Fleetwood really be any worse...

And finally, he could have had a hat trick on Saturday but nobody will ever ever ever ever convince me that Mooney is a professional footballer. Would Fleetwood really be any worse...
Yes he would be worse. Three goals in 25 appearances for Exeter compared to Mooney's record of 5 in 22. Add to that the fact that Fleetwood is a Conference goalscorer and nothing else, Mooney at least has a bit more to his game.
  • obviously in Parky's opinion, I really dont get this Mooney bashing with the exception of Burton who is injured he's the best we have left up front, because Akpo Sodje is a bloody joke of a professional
