  • I think Shelvey may be making a comeback after all, even if there is some mystery 'attitude' problem with him and Parkinson surely Racon just chucked himself out of the team as well as the toys out the pram? I can see Randolph in goal for a while too, whatever the nature of Elliot's injury.
  • [quote][cite]Posted By: hudson-son-son[/cite]Anyone else see Racon when he was subbed? Thought it would have been mentioned by now but he kicked the sub bench a few times.[/quote]

It was the only thing that interrupted my focus on the pigeons.
  • Elliott had a groin injury, we could see he was struggling just before they scored their second. Not sure I said that he was injured when I made the announcement. So much going on down around us at the time.
  • If Racon is to be dropped Parky will just start Bailey in the centre and Reid out wide.
If Reid is still having niggles and Bailey stays wide can see Spring starting ahead of Jonjo.
  • Fair play to the stick insect for getting a goal but he looked like a contestant out of Its A Knock Out in the first half. I swear I could hear Eddie Waring and Stuart Hall laughing their arses off in the background.

    .
  • Who's that to NSS
  • the comment above slagging off Mooney
  • [cite]Posted By: scruffle[/cite]parkys comments - we may well have spent the least but look at our actuall wage bill and then compare to the rest of league one and see who gets value for money

I came in to post this
he may not have had much but we have more than most and should be playing better than we are

If you can't make a point without resorting to pathetic childlike name calling then I think you need to have a word with yourself mate. Just my opinion, of course.

  • Glad to see Parky stand up for himself in the post-match interview. What he said is absolutely right and people need to give him credit for getting us where we are now. Some people just refuse to understand the huge difficulties we have had this season.

Regarding the game, I thought we bossed it totally and could have had 5 or 6. Credit to their keeper for brilliantly turning 2 headers onto the bar and blocking a point blank range shot from Mooney. I thought Mooney played well and never stopped running all afternoon. Took his goal really well too. Glad to see Parky standing up for him. Burton will be a loss as it leaves us with only 2 fit strikers, 1 fit left back, 1 fit goalkeeper and 1 half-fit left winger. With the lack of resources we have it's going to be a really tough end to the season. Come on Charlton, the odds are against us but I still believe we can do it.
  • Parky makes some valid points but the fact remains that he had the players available to make a change to the formation that failed so badly at Millwall.

He chose to keep the shape the same and it didn't work again. Hopefully Burton's injury isn't to serious because we desperately need to revert to 451 with Shelvey playing in the hole. Now we have Reid it should be harder to counter than the begining of the season when Sam was our only outlet.

it was quite entertaining in a park football sort of way ... the ref body checking their player was good ....
a point's clearly not good enough...
best game i've seen semedo have(even tho he can't kick a football properly) and mooney ran his socks off and deserved his goal i liked the cupped hand to the ear during his celebrations....
richardson and bailey are getting worse and worse thankfully bailey started his descent from a higher level

booby elliot ....well i'll give him one thing he's consistant ..surely parky can see what i see where he's concerned

i now see us as 0.5% automatics 69.5% playoffs and 30% out of playoffs come the end of the season , i'll up date it after each game so you all will know where we'll end up ;-)
  • You are having a laugh NSS? Surely? I have endured enough pain watching Mooney fluff chance after chance week after week. And he usually scores when I do slag him off ( I am sure he gave it back to me when he made his goal celebration today ). But I have had my head in my hands once too often when chances have come his way to not make my feelings clear. And he is going to be our main striker now that Burton is out for some time so we won't be short of a giggle or two in the run in eh?

Why has my post been edited when all I am doing is trying to pull someone up for resorting to name calling - yet the offending post is still there? Bizarre.

I read the sticky in the week. Some clearly didn't.
  • I was in the fortunate position of being surrounded by loads of people who had never seen Charlton play before. The school I work in was given a load of tickets for today's match and I went with them, sitting in the West lower.

Being so far from the North upper and pretty close to the Gillingham fans, their perspective on the game was interesting.

Generally they thought Charlton have some excellent players, they thought we were weak both defensively and offensively in central midfield. They thought that we seemed to lack confidence and their was no defining presence in the middle of the park. They thought Sam was impressive though should have released the ball sooner on a number of occasions. Interestingly, they didn't mention our defence, Personally I thought we looked shaky throughout the entire game. They also thought Mooney was excellent today, many saying that they thought he was our best player. One parent said that the game was there for the taking in the second half and we just don't have the players with the heart to do it.

It was all very interesting as on the whole all of the children and most of the parents seemed to enjoy the game (though they were obviously neutral) and it gave me an entirely different perspective on the game. It was a shame to hear all the booing at the end of the game. Quite frankly, given that kind of support, I don't think we deserve to win anything for the rest of the season and I fully expect us to be in this league come the end of 90 minutes on the 8th of May.
  • Racon set up a goal, and actually was involved at times - even if not much. Bailey did absolutely NOTHING, he was terrible. Fair play to Mooney for the goal, it was a decent finish, but cupping his ear to the north? Pack it in, given how badly some of this lot have played lately they really have NO right to be getting petulant with the fans - there was a decent attendance today in spite of last weekend, they should think about that. There were signs of life today, we actually looked like we might score for one. I thought Semedo had a fine game too, good on him for trying to go forward at times too - its obviously not what hes about, but he tried. Very, very disappointed we didnt get to see Shelvey.

Im sure Parkinson will be happy with the result, a loss today and i suspect it would have got very ugly at the end - but im not. Its a sad, sad day for me when managing to get a draw at home to one of the worst sides in the divison is cause to be relieved.
  • Good on you Parky! I'm right behind you and the team, the majority of fans understand the contraints he and the club are under. The booing at half-time was totally unacceptable and I was ashamed to be amongst them today, the game was ok although the team are clearly being affected by some of the abuse. I was happy to see Mooney have his dig back at the boo boys after the superb goal and he is quite right! This period is a test of the club, the team and the fans (some are failing badly!). I would like to know why Racon reacted the way he did, personally I find his dissent an insult to the manager and the club, no player is bigger than the club and if i ever met him would tell him so. The squad should be pulling together, if he needs to go then fine by me.

I thought Sam was ok, I don't have a problem with him cutting in but with Bailey on the left, he needs to play wider really. Racon and Bailey were worse in the midfield alone, Semedo was top though.
  • We are weak in a lot of areas and iam sure thats seen by most!
On the back of last week i was gutted with the first half today and angry.
Real time though kicked in for me when i saw in excess of 20000 for the crowd today!
No boos from me!Number 1 in South London!!!!!

i have edited my post as it obviously cheesed you off, sorry for any offence caused , just didn't think he deserved,
the stick insect comment considering the effort he put in today, once again im sorry
  • Bailey needs a very heavy kick up the arse. He is club captain and is behaving like a small child. When we scored the 1st goal instead of telling the team to concentrate he is off making gestures at their right back and other unsavoury comments/ When the got their 2nd all he wanted to do was take out the same guy rather than putting in any sort of tackle.

Yes he has played well this season
Yes he has scored quite a few goals

However he is not as good as he thinks he is and for a so called hard man he cries like a small baby whenever he is tackled or rolls around as if he has been shot.

Nicky you are better than that and should lead by example. Make Dailly the captain and make Nicky prove his worth to the team at the moment or close the door on your way out at the end of May

Make you right Steve, but still no need for it. Well played anyway.
  • Bottom line is Parkie is not the man to take us forward after last weeks humiliation the boos at half time thay team should have come out in the second half and torn a strip off of gillingham

Mooney was booed when the teams were announced which was an absolute disgrace.

Dave Mooney is not the greatest player to wear our shirt by any means but he doesn't hide, wanted to play having suffered another head injury and ran his heart out today as well as scoring a cracking goal. Oh and he is a loan player. I wish some of our own had his commitment.

I don't blame him for cupping his hand to his ear in the direction of the Covered End after scoring.

The problems in our team are elsewhere and kicking a few benches in the dug out won't solve them. It's a shame that energy wasn't consistently applied on the pitch.
  • Delighted with the point against the mighty Gills.
  • Disappointed to only have a point from a match we largely dominated.

The sad news about Bob Curtis, which I only picked up from here, puts it into insignificance though really for me.
  • I saw Elliot get injured after taking a kick, he was really struggling. He couldn't get up of the ground quick enough for the 2nd due to the injury. Maybe he should have called for attention straight away but it was very close to half-time.
I cannot understand some of the comments about him. If it wasn't for him we'd be a lot lower in the league.
