Anyone remember the clothes shop (menswear?) at top of Floyd road roughly next to where the off licence is now? I bought my first Starsky wrap round cardigan there, I think I’ve still got it somewhere! 😉
Does any remember the name of the gents clothes shop that was a few doors down towards Welling Corner from the Grenada cinema. I bought my first Brutus shirts there in about 1970. It was run by an elderly Jewish bloke who would stand in the doorway and try and convince anyone who was window shopping to come and have a good look at the goods.
James Terry ?
I think it had a vaguely foreign sounding name that may have ended in el or al. It was a small shop and packed to the rafters, mainly with shirts.
Wallis supermarket. Used to be loads of them in the seventies. Had a Saturday job with them in my student days.
When were you there Lazy eye? I had a Friday eve/Saturday job in Wallis's butchery dept 1973-75. I loved it even though the pay was poor. Full of characters... a bit like a Carry On film!
I'd completely forgotten about Beatties, I loved that place as a kid.
Kennedy's in Bromley always got my custom whether I was hungry or not. I would always buy a couple of sausage rolls....after I'd queued up for 10 minutes.
That is brilliant. I like the way he has to take it out of the shop on a sack barrow, couldn't they have thrown in a free delivery? And what if a player won a few of them in a season, they'd have had to go down the market like Del Boy flogging them off.
As a follower of fashion I miss Dales, Harry Fenton and Take Six.
I used to work in Dales - first job after leaving school. They used to copy other designs - eg their copy of Farah trousers had a ‘D’ where the Farah ‘F’ label would be! Branches in Woolwich, Sidcup, Lewisham, and shop with warehouse near The Venue in New Cross.
