  • Was there a shop down the end of Bexleyheath Broadway called Woodruffs or something similar. I used to buy all my Subbutteo teams there?

It was just past the Danson lights going towards Welling. Used to sell guns I think!
That was Forsey's (still there) Woodruffs was up near Lion Road opposite the Golden Lion pub, also still there.
  • The catford gun shop. I always feel you can get a feel of an area by the quality of its gun shop.

Index, the catalogue shop, basically Argos mark 2.

Do It All, diy chain, can still remember the jingle from their tv ads.

'How do do it all do it? How they do it, no one can tell, if everyone knew it, how do it all do it, then I guess, they'd be doing it as well!'

Had wiped them and that from my memory fpr the last couple of decades until you posted, cheers....
  • I was in Austria recently and they had lots of SPARs - you don't see them so much here anymore!

    Do they still sell Subbutteo?

Got them here in Portugal too.
  • I recall an old small local toy shop which had what seemed to be every Subbuteo team stacked in numerical order on shelves with the chart on the wall. I miss those types of shops. They had a sepcial quality.

  • I used to get my Subbuteo teams from the big former toy shop on Lewisham High Street....Beatties I think it was called?

I used to get mine from Hubble Bubble in Blackfen. They had pretty much every team except Charlton (ref 177)
  • As I no longer get to Charlton Village not sure if it is still there, but in the early 60's my friends and I always met up in the bike repair shop off the road to the right as you enter the village from the church end
  • Sydney ross toys in woolwich

Yes but the Charlton was only accurate when we had the kit with the white lines on the side. Team number 1 was usually the best fit which was a result seeing as it came with most box sets.

I did get 177 though from that shop as well as York City with the big Y on the shirt.

Anyone remember Regal Sports along Eltham High Street opposite the church?

Always used to go swimming in Eltham baths around 84/85 on a Saturday morning then come out and head over to Regal and look longingly at the trainers until finally my Dad bought me a pair of Nike vandals.
Was it a toss-up between those, the Nike Visigoths and the Nike Huns?

They are big in a lot of Europe, much more like a mainstream supermarket, whereas here they were always a second-rater like Budgen. The one round the corner from us stopped being a Spar but the people who took it over obviously weren't swimming in money so they didn't put up a whole new sign, they just put a 'k' at the end.
  • Cave Austin, Caters, British Gas Showrooms.
  • Dales, menswear shops all across South London.
  • Male Call?
Woolwich, used to get all my Farahs in there.

I assume Tanners in Deptford is no more?

I got all my jumbo Lois cords there in the early 80’s.
