Saw Interstellar last night. Very enjoyable, a very complex and well-thought-out world as you can always expect with the Nolan brothers. If I was going to be a dick about it, I'd say Anne Hathaway's character was a little undefined, and the last scene before the credits roll is a little off-tone with the rest of the film. But they're minor faults, and it was well worth the ticket price.
I also just watched Glengarry Glen Ross for the first time. Don't make them like that anymore.
Just watched Under the Skin, one of the darkest, weirdest, most brilliant films I've seen in years. Will certainly not be to everyone's taste, but would be interested to hear what others think.
I liked it. Definitely thought provoking. One of those films that you don't forget easily.
Glad you liked it, I've watched Locke and Calagry on your recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed them; Tom Hardy - what an actor.
Hardly a new film, but watched The Seventh Seal recently. Bloody fantastic...
Second viewing of Cloud Atlas and thoroughly enjoyed it. Was a little bit baffled first time round but understood it more on the second viewing. Superb cast playing various different characters ( was surprised at who played Dens wife when the credits rolled ), an ambitious storyline and great cinematography plus a few laughs and poignant moments throughout. Will definitely be reading the book and watching again.
Might have to give it another go then, first time I watched it I thought it was alright.
My mrs dragged me to see it as she loved the book, thought Hanks was quality in it.
The book is incredible..havent seen the film, but it's on the list
Also went to see Mr Turner in the week - quite disappointed, actually. Thought it was over-indulgent film-making, a dodgy script and complete lack of story. Actually thought the two lead women - the housekeeper and Mrs Booth - gave more convincing performances than Timothy Spall. Would not particularly recommend.
Nightcrawler - unsure how I feel about this, even after letting it sink in for a few days. Gyllenhall was excellent, it's probably worth watching just to watch his performance. I won't spoil but for the character who comes across so weedy he was absolutely terrifying. For a non-conventional plot line you could see exactly how it was going to pan out which in my opinion let it down slightly. I'd probably give it another watch at a later date thought. 6/10
Time is Illmatic - documentary about Nas' classic album Illmatic. Whilst probably not everyones cup of tea on here it does give a good insight on social problems in the projects in NY (as the album also does). Overall I was slightly disappointed, perhaps I had been looking forward to this for far too long and so raised my expectations. Not that it was bad but I didn't feel it went into enough depth, also highlighted by the fact it is only 75 minutes long. If you know the album and the story behind it then you'll probably know most of the story here but it's probably still worth a watch. If you don't know then it's probably still worth a watch. 6/10
Interstellar. Derivative as hell, but fantastic to watch. Beautifully shot, mesmeric soundtrack and understated performances letting the enjoyably daft story sell the film.
Can't understand people saying they couldn't figure out what was going on though - it was much simpler even than Inception (which wasn't difficult to fathom anyway because it was literally spoon fed to you)
I've just watched Boyhood by Richard Linklater. Pretty amazing film not like any I've seen before. Follows a boy and his sisters lives over an 11 year period. They started filming in 2002 and finished in 2013. It's pretty amazing, very long 2hr30mins but still worth a watch.

I fancied this one, NA but didn't get around to seeing it.
Also went to see Fury, I'm not a big fan of Brad Pitt stuff generally, but I thought he did alright, and if you've got an interest in war films and haven't seen one for a while it's probably worth a look.
It is a bit far fetched plot wise, the battle scenes are quite good, it's a bit gory in places, but what you'd expect.
I'm sure the film has got its merits, but I would have preferred a film, particularly this year of all years that could have done justice to the horror and sufferings that people/ soldiers went through in the 1st world war, rather than the 2nd world war.
It's all about history knowledge though MIA for instance it is 70 years since DDay, the most important day of the 20th century so I guess WW2 should get a mention this year as well as WW1.
Just seen Turner, a quiet film that makes you think. Timothy Spalding was good as the self obsessed Turner. Also the back ground plot of how the rate of scientific change was changing peoples lives then was interesting.
Interstellar is two hours of good film, but three hours long. McConaughey is very good, his daughter is well acted at all ages, but there is a twist/plot contrivance that nearly derailed the entire film for me. If you aren't after a movie you need to engage your brain for, avoid at all costs.

Translated = if you're a thicko, forget it :-)
Pretty much. A lot of people might want a popcorn flick to enjoy in a flashy special effects way - this is not that film.
Planning on having a cinema fortnight and aiming to see The Homesman, Interstellar, The Imitation Game and possibly the Hunger Games (well, I've seen the first two), and The Drop

There's so much exposition in this movie that you'll only get lost if you're not listening. It's apparently complex on the surface, but when you break it down, it's really quite straight forward, and most of the plot has been used before in Sunshine and Contact!
Went to see Interstellar this week, better than I thought it would be, a bit Dr Who in places, but much better than Gravity, which I thought was overhyped, 8 out of 10, and definitely a film to be appreciated more on the big screen.
Enjoyed Interstellar as I have done with all Christopher Nolan films - they all make you think. Good film-making, good story. Definitely worth seeing at a big screen. 8/10

Used better both times for me. I am not saying it is a hard film to follow particularly but the trailers played up the big special effects shots when there is a LOT in between.
I enjoyed INTERSTELLAR but am I the only one who found very difficult to hear a lot of the dialogue because of A) mumbling/whispering, especially by the two leads, the very loud music over a lot of the dialogue, C) the 'real' effect of sound being twisted by speaking in space helmets? I felt that I missed understanding certain plot developments because at least 20% of the dialogue was inaudible.
James Franco directs this extremely grim drama about a nasty character called Lester who takes depraved to a new level. Great performance by Scott Haze but this film is far too grimy to really be recommended.
Interstellar enjoyable film, bit 2001 meets Inception. The plot is a bit loopy / contradictory / far fetched / and what the hell is happening now in places but it just about gets away with it. I like Matt Damon, but not sure if his bit in the film was really helpful to the overall film, it was a bit of a diversion. McConaughey is good but very full on. A good film. I would watch it again, and probably need to fully understand the plot.

@Nadou In the Imax, I watched the film in, the sound was way too loud, so I put some tissue in my ear. Some of the plot developments were a bit incomprehensible, and out there even fully hearing most of what was said. It is the type of movie you just have to roll with bits that don't make sense. You are right about the sound mix though, that could have been a bit better.
Watched Untouchable (the intouchables in french) recently. Great film, sees the meeting of a paralysed man and no-nonsense former convict and the life changing consequences. Made a nice change from the usual crash bang wallop I watch. François Cluzet is also in Tell No One, another great foreign language film http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQgEohqf2o8

I watched it last month. Decent film indeed. I saw on the internet that it will be remade, with Colin Firth to play Cluzet's role. Not sure if a remake is a good idea though...
Bedsaddick brought up Untouchable a few weeks back. I watched it and it is brilliant. I really hope they don't remake it - it wouldn't be as good. Furthermore watching foreign language films isn't difficult!
Of all the comic book / Super hero movies i have seen over recent years ,i have to say Guardians of The Galaxy left me with the biggest smile on my face. This is a thoroughly enjoyable romp that is packed full of great characters , is really funny and has a fantastic soundtrack. I really couldn't care less if i never see other Batman/IronMan/Superman etc.. movie again but i can't wait for the next GOTG film.
