Enjoyed Dune 2 - thought it was much better than the first installment. Some of the set piece scenes were excellent and thought the acting and action was very good. Pulled together a lot of the story threads from the first film well, I think Villeneuve wants to make a trilogy but not sure if that will happen. 4/5

    The Delinquents (Argentina)

Bank employee Morán devises and implements a plan to steal enough money to never have to work again, confesses and serves prison time while his colleague hides the cash. Soon under investigative pressure, matters become complicated when his accomplice, Román, meets a beguiling woman.

The film had high quality production values and some very good moments. It was a decent enough watch but, overall, it didn't quite hit the spot for me. It could have done with some tightening up - both in terms of narrative structure and the 3 hour running time - and the ending was a little too enigmatic for my taste.

Saw last night they've confirmed a part 3 to cover the Dune: Messiah storyline. Haven't read that one yet but will read it ahead of time, glad its getting a 3rd installment though

Finally got round to watching Poor Things.

Cinematography was great and some very good acting performances, but unfortunately the plot was basically a paedophiles fever dream.

I watched it last week too but I've absolutely no idea what you mean by that ?

    Back to Black

Far better than I expected - surprised by how poor some of the reviews have been. Marisa Abela is excellent in the role of Amy. I'd forgotten how good her music is.

    7.5/10

Saw Back to Black as well tonight. Such a sad story of such a troubled girl, and like @hoof_it_up_to_benty says it reminds you how talented she is was.

    Really enjoyed it.

Also took the time to see the latest interview from her ex husband who I always assumed was a scumbag but comes across in real life totally different to how I expected

     Civil War.

Quite watchable. Not memorable but perfectly ok.

    Tried to watch Poor Things.
Perhaps I wasn’t in the right frame of mind but I turned it off. Can’t remember the last time I did that?
But watched Good Luck to you Leo Grande instead.
Great film. Got to love Emma Thompson!

Just seen Robot Dreams with my grandson. Animated film about friendship, loss and finding new ones. Was nominated at Oscars. It was really great movie. There is no dialogue, uses visual expressions and sometimes music to portray different emotions. My grandson really liked it.
However we were only two in theatre. It has had very little publicity, such a shame.

Poor Things - Emma Stone was incredible in the lead role, the plot was bonkers and some of it was as close to ‘porn’ you are going to get on a Cineworld screen. Leaves you thinking, a bit numb, a bit uncomfortable, but as said above full of admiration for Emma Stone’s work, alongside Ruffalo (love that man) and Dafoe’s on this movie.

Kung Fu Panda 4 - watched out of sentiment with my now late teen kids. We all did. I wish we hadn’t. A couple of amusing moments, but otherwise, nowhere near the first couple of instalments. Time to hang up the black belt, Panda…

Dune 2 - really enjoyed it. I found part one quite a hard watch, it needed further editing imho, so did not watch it again pre-part 2, but wish I had as I was a bit pre-occupied trying to remember where The Emperor played by Christopher Walken (another fine fine actor) had shown up in part 1. Answer: he hadn’t- ffs 🤦🏻‍♂️ As above, excellent set pieces and the pace was much much better. Source material for part 3 not so strong imho so hope Denis uses artist licence to bring something better to the screen. Will watch for sure!

Am going to the cinema tonight. Very tempted by Civil War, but am also a bit of a sucker for Monsterverse…?

Why not join us watching the U21s at Dulwich Hamlet in the LSC Final ?  :)

Ha, Jean sorry I missed you last night and would love to jump at this, but my daughter (who is not into footie) is available to go out with mum and dad tonight, so looks like cinema is the best option. Enjoy the game and Up the Addicks!

    Silver Haze- 7/10

Watched this a few weeks back. This was very grim and well thought out, however it didn't flow as well as it could have. At times it felt like various short stories in one film. I still enjoyed it though.

    Really?

*makes mental note for when it's on Netflix/Sky.

Went to watch That They May Face The Rising Sun (an Irish film, set in rural Co. Galway in the late 1970s, I think, and based on a John McGahern story) yesterday evening.

I'm still trying to work out what it was all about (there's not very much happening that I could work out, though there are a few funny lines, and I haven't a clue if there was supposed to be some deep and meaningful message that managed to evade my hypersensitive intellectual capacities) or, indeed, whether I actually liked it.  It may take me some time to come to a conclusion.

I couldn't even begin to score it...

Saw Poor Things a few weeks back. Hard to explain how I felt about it, but the comments above generally nail it. Bonkers plot with a dash of scientific weirdness draped over an odd tale of sexual awakening in a reanimated corpse. I won't go into detail, but it was well acted, off the charts strange and the porn references above are right.
Wouldn't bother watching it again though, so a solid 6 out of 10,

The Fall Guy - really enjoyed the trailer, film was an absolute turkey, 3 out of 10.

I watched Dune 2 for 3 minutes before remembering I had a hard time getting into the first part 3 years ago. I then switched it off and chose to watch a film that I'd already watched before: Bohemian Rhapsody. I enjoyed it even more than the first time around!

Again not new but worth a look (I've been watching a lot of old stuff as I find no new films lately are worth my time) are two WWII related projects: a 2001 HBO film about the Wannsee Conference where the Nazi officials decided how the Holocaust would be carried out. I watched it with my parents and it was a really chilling experience for all of us, despite the film was basically just dialogue. Another thing I watched is a 4 part documentary co-produced by your Chanel 4 named "Hell in the Pacific". It can be found on YouTube. As someone commented on YouTube, I really think it is a documentary everyone should watch. Very educational and of course extremely depressing.

Saw this today and actually quite enjoyed it. Not to be taken seriously and silly fun.

Never going to win any awards though 😀

The director Pat Collins is a Baltimore local.
It’s being shown in the church tonight with a Q&A after. It sold out before I got a chance to get a ticket.
The book was based in Leitrim apparently but when the director saw the setting in Galway insisted it be shot there.
My friends who have read the book say it was pretty ordinary so aren’t expecting much in the film 🤔

Watched The Black Phone on Netflix last night. I enjoyed it. Easy watch.

Then Bullet Train. I’m not a Brad Pitt fan tbh but that was brilliantly bonkers. Loved it.

Back to black, we enjoyed it although we like her music, none Amy fans will probably find it predictable, but I'll give a 7/10.

I loved Bullet Train. As you say, totally mental with some great characters.

Sorry just coming back to this thread. Yes, saw it, quite enjoyed the character driven story and solid set piece elements, but if a film ever needed a prologue it was this. I may have felt more emotionally connected toward the end of the film if I knew the motives of the President etc. All just felt a bit bonkers and possibly, poorly edited.

May go and see Fall Guy this afternoon. Not sure if a scoop of Baskin Robbins or seeing this movie is the real draw mind…?

I thought Fall Guy was awful. My wife like it though (presumably that may be related to
Gosling rather than the film itself).
