We signed promising young striker Izzy McLeod from 4th Division MK Dons.
We signed promising young striker Luke Varney from 3rd Division Crewe.
We signed promising young striker Chris Dickson from completely off the radar Dulwich Hamlet.
[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]I wonder what Charlton fans thought when:

And I wonder what we think now.....?
;o)
The first cost £1.1m, the second cost £2m and the third £50K. None of them worked out but taking a chance with a lad from Non League (a la Beckford, Austin, Morrison etc etc) is perhaps less of a gamble than paying over the top for a Leaue striker not proven at the higher level.
Dicko plays best facing the right way, not with his back to goal with great lump centrebacks all over him.
He's no Burton.
But Scoham makes a good point ..... the ball played a yard in front of Dicko to run on to, the cut back on the floor in the crowded box which Sam often brilliantly supplies.
Dicko's a limited player, perhaps .... but he does have some strengths.
Those particular strengths need playing to.

In the position we are in now we cannot be taking 'any' gambles....any money we spend no matter how small MUST be put into strengthening the side for one thing and one thing only....PROMOTION.
Let's get promoted first, then we can take a few gambles AA.
Dicko did start rather effectively for Bristol Rovers, then he petered out- then the doubts of all concerned kicked in. He also had a more than acceptable spell with Gillingham. He has something that we have seen in fits and starts and can give a full back a torrid time on occasions but it generally happens in shirts other than ours, I would love to see him gel at Charlton but it hasn't really happened often enough thus far. Time for one last show of faith in him or get rid??
[cite]Posted By: falconwood_1[/cite]Get rid back to the ghetto
Bit harsh as he hasn't been played in his fave position, he plays best of the shoulder of the defender. similar to bent in one respect but doesn't have as much quality, i think he could be useful and would link up well with burton but would not pick him ahead of mooney imho so if it meant we could bring someone else in then maybe the way to go
[cite]Posted By: SoundAsa£[/cite]jb...that's 'exactly' where he was played on Monday evening.....Question for ya....how many times was he caught offside, I lost count myself?
I wasn't at the game, sorry i didnt realise.
[cite]Posted By: The Red Robin[/cite]I hope that's the first and last time Dickson's ever compared to Bent!
More then likely will be, im suprised i even mentioned it but basically was trying to say that he would benefit trying to play in a similar role.
Dickson was getting caught offside but he also had to battle with centre backs for long balls. So while he was poor we weren't using him properly. He has some strengths but a lot of big weaknesses which I can't imagine he'll ever improve on enough.
[cite]Posted By: I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY[/cite]Livingston striker Andrew Halliday is waiting to hear if his trial at Charlton has been successful.
Is that the bottom of a barrel I can hear being scraped??
Halliday is 19-years of age, plays out wide for Livingston and has been tracked by CAFC even prior to this season. When Livingston's financial situation deteriorated, he has been forced to play in the Scottish fourth division after playing and starting last year in the second. By all accounts, he has continued to develop as a player and prospect. If Charlton is still considering picking him up, I would imagine it reflects a somewhat medium to long-term vision of his utility. If true, I find this very encouraging.

To be fair to him we should at least play to his strengths. Balls to run onto or to feet, not long balls for him to battle with centre backs for.

His best quote "Charlton fans understand me as they know I'm from the ghetto"
