Yeah, that was a bit harsh. Not me Guv, shooting messengers and all that!
Certainly no one on here was smug, in fact you were pretty much worried about an upset from the off. I was hopeful of scraping a draw at best and not getting a thumping - it's only four years since Sunderland did us 3-0 and three years since Brighton belted us 8-0 in the Cup.
To your credit, it was clear to my 'non-league-tuned' eyes that there was a slickness about your passing early on and a speed about you in that first 10/15 minutes. That was when you had the ball though. Certainly things went our way from that first save from your class goalie and from the scramble onwards, we just got more and more confident. Our back four kept a solid line for the 95 minutes and our best defence going on the attack and was stopping you from playing and keeping the ball.
Keep the faith, guys. This could be the shake-up to get your league campaign back on track and see you push for promotion. I really do hope that you have a great season as being made so welcome on this forum has been a great experience. Dare I say it, but I think that directly because of the Charltonlife folk, a number of Vics fans, and myself totally, have got a new 'second' team.
[cite]Posted By: Algarveaddick[/cite]You could have played Richard Herring as a defender and Stuart Lee in goal, and it still wouldn't have made a difference to the result...
Probably could have put Sarah Lee in goal...
(Still at least we've now had a goal from someone in a CAFC shirt in open play after around 400mins of play without one...)
Best of luck against MK, the results have got to start turning in your favour soon.
Think the "smug" reference in the song was more likely down to a scanning or rhyming issue. Whatever, all those that matter know that you were respectful, polite and for the most part overly pessimistic (with good reason it turned out) about your prospects; a million miles away from being as "smug as a bug in a rug" (see scanning and rhyming in one fail swoop, you either have it or you don't lol!).
Finally just curious, can you confirm here for me, how close was Saturday's starting eleven to what Parkinson would consider his first choice? I had the impression he didn't rest too many (obviously the goalkeeper was one) or was I deceived by the squad numbering?

Assuming you mean SUNDAY'S starting eleven our first choice keeper is injured as is our first choice right back neither of whom featured at all. Deon Burton and / or Leon McKenzie dependent on 4-5-1 0r 4-4-2 would have started rather than subbed if fully fit.
Other than that you saw the best we have to offer!!
I should imagine the Al**on fans are quietly stoical about the whole thing (roll eyes before howls of derisive laughter). They really must've slept very badly last night .... and then to find out today the TV cameras are to return .... they must be fit to burst!! ... Tee hee!!!
Maybe yesterday was what was needed in the long run .... a good kick up the pants .... get you focused .... then three points against Mk Nomads on Saturday. Trust me it'll happen .... I'm a doctor (struck off of course ... but it still counts!). Best of luck.
Ahhhmmm ...... so if you'd just like to step behind the curtain, take off your clothes and ..... cough! ..... Well done chaps, said you'd turn it around.
Vics don't play today, we are at Hyde tomorrow - I know that there are a lot of Trickies who were smiling whilst watching Soccer Saturday seeing the Addicks goals piling on the scoresheet.
You looked a totally different team going forward just now on the highlights. Then again, you had a more attack-minded set-up today. Some good goals. But I have to say you still looked shaky at the back.

Main change now is that McLeod should be fifth choice striker at best (not including Shelvey as a striker). Mooney couldn't play in the cup, McKenzie is slowly getting fit and now we have Akpo Sodje on loan. Actually look like we have some decent options up front for the league we're in, not something we're used to.

Not perfect but still one of the best back fours in the league.
I see their game is on the tv again, i don't know what they earn from that but they must surely be coining it in from this cup run. Hope they win and get Man U or Arsenal away in round 3.
It's a shame really, was speaking to a few of their dedicated fans after the game in the bar said how there old chairman really screwed them over and they have 100,000's of pound worth of debt and for a club of that size is a massive amount, heres hoping they continue their good cup run.

All the best!
Signed The CAFC players.

But that's probably what you meant!
Anyway, it's nice to hear you say that Tricker.

I'd be up for that... if Walsall got through Round 2 we'd have the day off as well
Like your thinking, West Brom fans did it with Woking many years ago.
That is a brilliant idea lets all get Tickets if they do.
That would be terrific ... here's hoping!
can you imagine the allocation they'd get at Selhurst... two thirds of the ground?
Yep, seconded.
tantinople?
