  • McLeod was doomed from his first game. I believe it was a league cup game. He was playing ok, won a penalty, took it and it was saved. Zheng grabbed the ball from him as it was retaken. You could see his confidence wilt there and then. Never recovered it. No chance of getting it back under the ego maniac that Pardew was.
  • Posted this on other threads but the ever unreliable Football Rumours are linking Izale with Wednesday ! That can only be good if true.

Maybe felt the burden of the high price tag/expectations, would probably end up doing alright for another L1 club.

Can't remember did he win both pens against Norwich after coming on or just the one?

  • It's not so much the loss of confidence/form that I disliked - that happens all the time - it was that he did so little to get it back.  League 2 is his level - he likes being a big fish in a small pond, and he will not do the hard work required to progress and was so daft that he belived what Pardew told him rather than Jackett when he was at Millwall.

    Donkey. End of

That was the opening post in this thread.

Well, it  was clearly not the ''end of''. He's got shit loads of goals in div 2 and it would be astonishing if someone in div one - Wednesday or  A.N.Other  - doesn't take a punt on him before the Jan window is over.

Sod's law says he is bound to score against us , too  (although hopefully he will be more like the hopeless can't shoot-straght clowns Mooney and Lisbie the other night.)
  • Used to remember he kept taking his shirt off on the rare occasion he got a goal. If memory serves me didn't he get a second yellow for celebrating a goal by removing his shirt? Not only was he not that good but not the sharpest tool in the box either! As said before by other lifers, just one of many poor players that we had the displeasure of watching week after week.

  • Think he elbowed a Northwich player in the face as well, another highlight.

That was the first minute of the second half. He got away with that as well didn't he?
  • Yeah think so

  • Think there was more to it than a lack of confidence and Pardew's ego.

Not a goalscorer at Championship level but the rest of his game was poor. Not got a great touch or any real skill, can't link the play, not strong or good in the air. Other limited strikers like Benson, Sodje and Mooney at least worked hard, don't think McLeod really had that to his game either.

I guess the hope for anyone that signs him is that maybe he'll handle the step up better than he did with us.
  • He would score goals in this league without a doubt, Big rumor that he is returning to MK.

He did during the game, however I think he got done after and was banned for 3 games.

His record with us suggests otherwise.
  • he didnt play for us in league 1 did he ???

he didnt play for us in league 1 did he ???
I'm pretty sure all of his goals and a vast majority of his appearances for us were in League 1. Annoyingly he is so shit he doesn't have a season by season breakdown of appearances on his Wikipedia page.

He picked up several yellow cards for this offence, you'd have thought that he would have learned after the first what would happen and so he wouldn't make that misatake again, but no....

I don't recall him getting a second yellow in a match or even getting suspended as the yellows mounted up though.

  • he didnt play for us in league 1 did he ???
Yes he did, NLA ......early in the first season.

Remember seeing him score the winner against Exeter at The Valley ;;;;;;;every single Charlton player went over to MacLeod to congratulate him for breaking his goal scoring drought.
  • Maybe it was just the Charlton striker syndrome that was going around at the time. All of them came with good reputations and then left demoralised, disgruntled and a shell of the player who had signed. Varney, Gray and Mcleod  (sure there are others), all suffered from a lack of fitness, a drop in morale and seemingly a lack of support from the terraces right? All have also gone on to prove themselves to be the equal to the player who joined beforehand. So perhaps it isn't the players but the coaching, style of play at the time etc...

Mcleod was tipped by many at the time and had the credentials to be a success, he was sought after by many clubs. He has gone on to prove he can score goals. He wasn't able to reproduce it for us but some of the comments on here, in my opinion, go too far in abusing these players.

I hope he goes on and makes the most of the talent that he has and reaches the heights that were expected of him.
  • Hopefully dropping down to Div 2 again to play for the mighty Barnet has made him a more humble person.  He certainly showed up some Championship defenders in the few games he started.  Never had a settled spell, or the same partner.   Home and away at West Brom around this time I seem to remember.

Not sure about that Dave. Gray is definitely as bad as when he was with us.

I'm pretty sure he was booked for taking his shirt off (infront of the North stand if I remember rightly) on this occasion as well.

A complete waste and one of the many, many players we've had for the few years before this season who didn't appear to care one jot about the club.

    A pendant writes....

Spot on - except it was against Huddersfield (unless he also scored a winner and then took his shirt off against Exeter too).

I remember that match because Anthony Pilkington curled a decent 20 or so yard free kick in off the post for their goal.  And also because McLeod's winner was about the only worthwhile thing I can ever remember him doing in a Charlton shirt!

I have been out - pendanted!

  • He has pace but unable to link play, a bit like a sub Lisbie who has/had pace and skill but also couldn't link play in the prem (although he played quite well for the O's the other night).
Thought McClod was better than Dickens and Fleetwood.he will have more time in the 4th div which is probably why he gets his goals.

    Deffo against Exeter ....... I only get to see a dozen matches each season, half of them away;
my first 2 matches that season both in September, Home to Pardew's Southampton 1-1; and Home to Exeter 2-1 (when MacLeod scored the winner).

    How's that for pedantry?

    ;o)
  • To be fair there's an excellent chance that he took his shirt off against both Exeter and Huddersfield, Perhaps of he had scored a few more goals he wouldn't have felt the need to disrobe every time he actually managed to locate the back of the net.
  • Must be better than Demba Ba though, Ba cost zilch whilst McLeod was 1.5m
