Can't believe we didn't lose anybody and signings too! Now for the Beckford training ground bust up over not being allowed to join anyone of the 30 clubs that he was being shown round today and the appointment of Dowie as Leeds director of football.
[cite]Posted By: Covered End[/cite]But he could have signed for another club, if we kept him hanging on .
My guess is that they are already in touch, have agreed in principle but the final touches go down to the wire. I think that sometimes we do miss out but in the end playing it late is on balance better financially for the club in the current market.
Some youth, some experience and 2 that could adjust to life above if all continues in its present direction (touch wood!). As long as we keep the current squad also, I only see good things ahead. Well done Parky & team.
The point which was being made which was a valid one is why wait until the last knockings before signing someone in case they go elsewhere. It is a difficult balancing act that those of us who just see the final outcomes (or lack of them) don't always appreciate the nudges and the pushes necessary to make the deals. For all we know Sodje may have been third or fourth choice, or the fallback purchase if all else fails. On the other hand we may have been waiting for him to prove his fitness/leaving the medical until the last minute to ensure he was in the best shape.
In the end though, I just think it's current;y a buyers market and that drives the lateness of the deal.

I know what you mean, but i very much doubt that any of the five deals we did 'today' were actually agreed today. The final paperwork may have been submitted, but i'm sure everything else was concluded at least a day or two in advance.
I'd imagine we were well aware of what was going on with Sodje for a while now. Same with Fortune, after he played in pre-season it was clear we would have liked him to sign a new deal. We know Parky ideally wanted 4 centre backs, and we have 3, and I'm happy with that for now but I guess there's still a chance of another free transfer at centre back if we can find the right player.
The (short term) loan window opens in a week doesn't it? If anyone gets injured we might see a loanee or two come in, though hopefully we won't need to do that. Unlike Pardew I don't think Parky will be constantly looking to improve the team for the sake of it. I don't think he'd bring in (and can't afford anyway) a talented player just because he's available (e.g. Scott Sinclair). Really can't imagine that helped team spirit at all.

Yes I'm sure thats probably the way it works, indeed I said as much in my earlier thoughts. I heard via Maglor a week ago that we expected to bring in four/five which suggested deals already lined up. The deal for Holden for example seems to have stalled over fee and a compromise agreed at the last minute.
[cite]Posted By: bingaddick[/cite]Yeah Henry. I guess it can sometime be like a house selling chain, i.e. things can't move until both ends of the chain are sorted out.
not bad signings Sodje good enough for this level and the championship Leon has scored goals where ever he has gone but likes an Inj now and then not seen anything about the winger holden but heard a few clubs wanted him
glad ZZ has gone to Celtic great move for him fleetwood again needs 1st team football so good move for both parties hope kinsella doesnt go as aidys number 2 at colchester
anyone heard anything about matty holland and fortune
Comments
Of course, I should have known that.
Sorry, Henry.
great news.
WHAT IS THE BLOODY POINT OF TWITTER!
If Sodje was a free agent, why didn't we sign him say a week ago ?
Is it because the takeover may have gone through ?
Were Charlton playing the waiting game ?
Was Sodje ?
Not sh*t stirring here, just wondering.
atleast this place doesnt crash
NOT

when you're the FA Premier league!
Abu Bakr also played in that reserve game but went to Swansea. Maybe we didnt want him/couldnt afford him or he fancied Swansea more.
May also have had to wait until the Moo2 deal was done to free up wages.
exactly.
I like this quote a lot.
