As someone who is all for second chances (although I ama hypocrite as if it was my family affected: no second chance). Hughes does himself no favours with the dancing and constant wind ups. If he behaved with some dignity and respect then perhaps he would not be so hated. Not saying he would be forgiven but his behaviour on the pitch is so disrespectful.
[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]He got the stick he deserved and was always going to get but at the end of the game he waved and blew kisses to the whole ground.
God knows how he has the nerve to do that after what he done - just walk down the tunnel. What an imbecile.
So someone reacts after being abused by thousands of people and then those handing out the abuse are offended by the reaction, does that just about sum it up?

You are so missing the point that you must be on a wind up.
He killed someone when pissed up and off his tits on coke. He ran away from the scene of the crime.
No not on a wind up, I'm not getting involved with the crime he was convicted for. Are you saying you would not react to a crowd of thousands abusing you for an hour and a half?
It always amazes me football fans get so no annoyed when a footballer reacts to the abuse they receive, surely that's exactly what they are looking for?

If I had killed someone and was lucky enough to get another chance at the job I loved then I would hope that I would act with humility and dignity and accept that what I had done would warrant some abuse. I wouldnt have the nerve the give it back.

Exactly. And he is bloody well paid for his job too.
Anyway, good work fellas. Sounds like you did a job on him, as we did Muscat a few years ago. Wish I could have been there for the penalty...
He tried to be cocky and put it down the middle, Elliot dived to his left but it his his shin and spiralled over the bar, the amount of stick he got after you would have thought he had an I LOVE MILLWALL tattoo on his stupid, scummy bald head

To be honest I did not think he got much abuse today, much less than when he came down with Oldham and scored agaisnt us and as for the stick we gave Nicky Weaver when he came down with Man City the season before he joined us, nothing compares.
Hughes has every right to continue to eb a footballer, but with that right he carries the responsibility of behaving in a manner that is fit and proper andthat he failed to do. He let his team down today with his performance and he let himself down with his antics.
I felt a bit sorry for County after the match as we didn't deserve to win. But then I remembered Hughes and had a quiet laugh. If he was the best player in the world, I wouldn't want him playing for Charlton and he deserves all the stick he gets. Whilst he gets paid well for playing football, another man is dead. The man he chose to run from rather than try to help. I think it is a disgrace to the law and order system that he isn't still in Jail.
Every team we play has this discussion, understandably.
My own view is that he has to live with what he did every day of his life, and that is some burden to bear. He has done all he can to make amends and continues to do so with charity work/visiting schools etc. He is actually a really nice bloke who has lots of time for our fans and kids and certainly gives value for money at our matches, although I understand opposing teams won't think so. You got off lightly with him today..He rarely misses such shots, and certainly not pens! He brings much more to the team than just his goals though, his link-up play and bullying of defenders also draws them away from our other striker and our wingers.
He is probably on a tenth of what he was on before his crime, so it continues to affect him.
Most fans seem to think that his reaction to the abuse he gets on the pitch is a sign that he has no remorse? How can anyone know that? I certainly don't know what goes through his mind at that time. I'm not sure what he's supposed to do...get down and pray? I take the opinion that he simply takes it on the chin.
Many of our fans weren't happy at the time of his signing, but it's hard not to warm to a 33 goal striker, especially when he has so much time for us, and turned down more lucrative offers from champ clubs to sign a further years contract with us. I think he deserves a bit of respect, from us at least, for that.
My question would be, if he had been caught drink driving but hadn't killed anyone, would you feel the same about him? Because that basically was what caused the whole thing. He hit another car because he had been drinking. He ran away because he had been drinking (I admit that part of his crime makes it harder to swallow) Some of the facts of this case have been a bit muddled..like they didn't phone for an ambulance...they did. He never converted to Islam..that was mere rumour.
If he were a builder, or plumber, no one would bat an eyelid at him returning to work. But his trade is football, which puts him in the public eye more.
Even if you leave the fact he has KILLED a man out of it, his behaviour today was a disgrace, appealing for everything, mouthing off at the crowd, acting like a kid at the end and whatever happened in the beginning with Semedo!
Visiting. I understand your loyalty to him and I understand that someone would sign him. I understand that people make mistakes it would take a foolish person to think that peopledont make mistakes that sometimes cost lives.
But Hughes should take the abuse ram it down our throats with a goal.
Never ever start blowing kisses and gesturing to the crowd like the did today.
It is disrespectful to the family of the dead man and shows no remorse
Firstly he is a coward- only a coward wouldn't man up and act how he did. A coward who has an innocent mans blood on his hands. If he worked for me I would sack him whether he was a builder or whatever- you need standards in life and I'm so releived we didn't sign him - It would put a tsian on the club I love more than anything else I can think of. The biggest issue of all for me is that he should have got 10 years and served 10 years - he shouldn't be out plying his trade. If I thought he'd paid for his crime - really paid- not taken a bit of a pay cut - I might not feel so much anger towards him. There must be lots of Notts County fans who still have priblems with him playing for you -33 goals or not.
Hmmm, where do I stand on this subject. When I was 19, I got done for drink driving. I'm now 36 and like most fans, I was chanting murderer at hughes. I suppose that makes me a total hypocrit! Struggle with my own conscionce on this one. My mate asked me if we'd been so judgemental if he was banging them in for us. Good point I think.

He normally does take the abuse...which he obviously gets at every game (apart from Oldham) and scores!
I don't see how it shows no remorse, it seems to me he takes it on the chin and gives some back.
I try to think how I would feel if he wasn't our player, and If I'm honest I probably would say similar to you, but this is football I guess, you back your own.
Take away the crime, give any fans an angle to give an oppo player the bird and they will jump all over it. Its part of the game. I kind of got the impression today that Hughes thrives on it a little, which is fine if you're a David Speedie or a Paul Dickov, but he carries a bit of a darker past. I think he would get a lot more respect if he just got his head down and got on with things, rather than turn a bit of abuse from the terraces into a two-way thing. Things only escalate that way.
The sad thing is he is such a good striker. He is bigger and stronger than i realised and i watched his movement today and he is still a very clever striker. We seemed to get off lightly today, which from our point of view kind of feels 'just' to be honest.
Good luck to County, their 500-odd fans got behind their team really well today.
I'd be the same if he was ours - I have said as much on forums when he might have been available so am consistent in my views. You have to draw a line somewhere IMO. He should still be in prison not out playing football getting decent money for it. This is not about football -it's about justice for the poor bloke he killed through gross selfishness and negligence and ran away from without seeking to help -whether he could have helped or not -he didn't know.
He has changed his game a bit since he got older. He used to be quick, and nip behind defenders, but now has developed his upper body so he can hold off defenders.
His finishing is usually breathtaking, so nonchalant, but wasn't today!
Congratulations on your win...as someone pointed out, Jimmy Sirrel always said the result is all that matters, all the rest is gossip.

Not an ounce of humility and basically a class a prat. Wouldnt want him anywhere near a team I was supporting.

He shows no remorse. He is a scumbag, end of.

He was flagged for offside.
Exactly. And he is bloody well paid for his job too.
