Exactly Oggy Red, the directors are fans, or claim to be and that is why they need to make the fans 'inclusive' and have a dialogue, which they NOW according to the earlier posts are prepared to engage with fans.
We pinned our colours to being a community club many many years ago, something that I am proud of, and we should all be proud of for the reasons you state above.
If I wanted an easy team to support I would have chosen Arsenal or Man United like 99 percent of my mates living in Charlton 40 odd years ago.
I do not remember when I was a kid too many kids at Sherrington/ Fosdene school wearing Charlton shirts in those days, or anywhere else come to think of it!
I support Charlton because I always have done, and because they have tried to do things for the benefit of the community and football, probably an irrational belief, and out of date philosophy in the modern world of money football.
[cite]Posted By: ken from bexley[/cite]the directors are fans, or claim to be and that is why they need to make the fans 'inclusive' and have a dialogue, which they NOW according to the earlier posts are prepared .
Sorry Ken, I agree with a lot of what you say but there are two things you say there that have to be picked up on.
"or claim to be" When you say that I infer that you think they are not really fans. They are fans and they do care. Say what you like about the mistakes, of which there are many as well as correct decisions, they have made but they are fans.
"Why they need to make the fans inclusive and have a dialogue which they are NOW"
Again the inference I take is that it is happening NOW but not before but that is just not true.
The board members regularly meet with fans at Q & A sessions (Murray has been at Bromley Addicks every year bar one since he became chair), talk openly at the AGM, discuss with fans at Target 40k meetings, etc, etc, etc
They supported the setting up of the Fans Forum over a year ago and backed that up by agreeing to meet with the Forum members when it was set up as they already have and as they will do again next week.
When you rang the club about directors coming on Charlton Live you got a positive response in 4 days.
I think we have so much contact and communication from the club that we now take it for granted.
What a waste of time.... the article reminded me of when we were in the Prem and I used to watch the whole of Match of the Day to see 30 seconds of crap highlights at the end with some disinterested & uneducated comments by that nob Lawro at the end of it.....its all down to those 3 fans who phoned a phone line to say Curbs was a bit stale, genius.
Lawrenson....how come he gets the 'expert' gig at all? Or ever has? Like he is full of insight, or entertaining, or good with words, or good to look at...what are his skills exactly? He fell into a pot of jam at the BBC, and they don't have the sense to get rid.
Pisses me off though, how many clubs fans phone in all the time to these radio stations moaning about everything...you hear the Arsenal fans on there every week even when they win by 5 goals...yet a few Charlton fans who moaned about Curbs are highlighted ALL the time.
Just watched the feature on FF, if you had a 1 hour documentary you still wouldn't have enough time to tell the full story of what has happened over the past four years. Apart from the interviews with Dave Rudd and Curbs I thought the report was a disappointing regurgitation of hacked one liners whacked together with some pretty piss poor "arty" shots. Slack arsed journalism once again epitomised by Mark Lawrenson mindless soundtbite at the end of the feature.
Now we're all going to have to put up with fans from other clubs pretending to know what the hell is going on because they've seen this feature.
I think the fact that the BBC showed so little of the FF members (well done Dave and Terry, you came over well) shows that maybe they didn't give the camera's the negative slant that the BEEB wanted to or that maybe Mark Bright/the director didn't want to put the boot in. No doubt they and Geoff who seems to have been edited out completely, did a lot more than 30 seconds of interviews each.
Not sure what I learnt from the Curbs input or the long shots of the Valley but there you go. It's a general football show so we who live and breath Charlton are going to find out anything that was new.
The world hasn't come to an end, the team is unlikely to have been demoralised but we know the prices at the tea hut (it's for the parents etc watching the kids games in case you wondered)
Feck em.... Feck the BBC, and all the other Bull Sf(t .... we'll turn them wrong, we'll swim our way out of this... all positive, they will do a piece on us saying that this season and these moemnts were when we finally, after 24 months of curbs going stale, Dowie not capable of raising enough for his face transplant, reed and all the other nonsense, this is the turning point, this is when it changes, weve had it rough, but not as rough as some, and beter than others, but here is where it changes, a win today and we are off and running....
and hansen and all the rest can go f*ck themselves, they have never liked us or respected us and never will, not intereste in what they have to say .....
Hi Henry Irving. Thanks for the reply, fair point I have not meet the directors, so cannot say wether they are or are not, so I conceed they are fans, and have Charlton's best interests at heart.
Your second point is a lot more open to argument, I do remember a few years ago that the board members appeared regularly on Charlton live , and other media organisations, I have not seen to much of them as of late.
My efforts to get the club to speak to the fans is well documented and the results are on this very posting.
I think that Dave Rudd and his colleagues have an important part to play in communicating fans fears/ frustrations/ hopes to the board directors and management, and I hope that communication beetween club and fans is discussed because I feel that that has been one of Charltons unique features as a club. I and others may not like what they have to say, I guess it is up to me to put myself forward, or have a financial stake in the club, the latter I would be unable to do.
I also fully appreciate that the Club are to appear on Charlton live and have posted again a thank you on this site.
Your other posting alludes to' didn't give the camera's the negative slant that the BEEB wanted to or that maybe Mark Bright/the director didn't want to put the boot in." Have to say that in my experience that is not the style of Mark Bright, and I am not going to defend the BBC , but we are bottom of the league are we not!, and as others have posted the BBC are dammed if they do or dammned if they do not, there is a wider audience than just Charlton fans, is that not the worry that fans had on this very site, being seen as a failling club!. My view is the opposite from that, we are still alive and fighting, even 'half empty 'individuals like me have to conceed that one!
It was interesting to see just how little of our interviews they used in the piece. Tel, Gavin and myself gave them maybe 15-20 minutes worth in total and it was reduced down to virtually nothing.
Mark Bright was quite fair with his questioning, and was clearly delighted when we answered his 'can Charlton stay up?' question with positive responses. You saw Tel's on camera - mine was a firm 'Yes, of course we can' which elicited a broad grin and strong handshake from 'Brighty'. I was a bit surprised that they didn't use that as it clearly hit the spot.
Congrats to Tel, mainly for keeping his balance while sitting on some railings, but also for his great contribution. Gutted for Gavin after being overlooked totally. And, yes - what was all that background building site stuff all about?
Anyway, onwards and upwards. Bring on Barnsley - and let's also look forward to Thursday evening's meeting with the Board where we hope that some of nla's questions can be answered.
To Miserable above, most definately not worth rushing home for, given that our chaps gave long interviews it's bad that they were edited to practically nothing, and the programme told us nothing we don't already know! I totally agree with the lifer who popped at Mark (Know f@ck all about anything in football outside the "big 4") Lawrenson and his anal attempts to dig at Charlton fan's who dared to talk about Charlton on 666 on five live. Everytime I listen to a football phone in I am subjected to Arsenal fans bleating in their usual way about piss all, Spurs fans calling for such and such's head in the pompous and grating way so beloved of their ego driven tosspot fans and Newcastle fans ranting about the same shit they've moaned about for decades. The fact that Charlton fan's dared to have an opinion about Curbishley other than to knight him was generally forbidden in all area's of the media. Lawrenson is a washed up knob who is just another little bug snaffling the crumbs from footballs ever bloated table, he offers nothing, absolutely nothing to football punditry whether it be slagging us off or poking his ugly visage into other areas of the game where his twattish rantings are also tediously boring. With what little time our boys were given they were simply fantastic, well done to them.
[quote][cite]Posted By: deeeeeeeeeeanooo[/cite]they could have put it on before that sh*t about Sbragia so we didn't have to miss the beginning of villa chelsea[/quote]
I wonder why we expected so much more from the Beeb on Football Focus, than the non-respect they normally give us and every other team that's not part of the Sky 4, and a handful of other 'big names'...?
To my mind, the Beeb run Football Focus like a screen version of the Sun newspaper or any other trash magazine.
It was always going to be shallow pap. They were hardly going to reveal anything other than their own pre-determined slant - so why are we disappointed ... ?
We were just a novelty filler for a couple of minutes towards the end of their showcase of washed up knobs (as someone has already succinctly put it) like the brainless, waste of space Lawrenson.
It might have been my imagination but I thought they did their best to show the Valley itself in a poor light. For instance 'Brighty' sitting in an empty stand looking around wistfully as if no-one bothers to turn up any more and that it's been abandoned again. The 'ghost town ' music added to the depressing tone of the item: their props people should have brought along some sage brush to blow across the pitch to make a job of it! The shots of him looking through the railings and walking passed closed gates also gave this impression: all it needed was a padlock to complete the picture. Then there was the skip at the training ground: surprised they didn't make Matty stand in it -it seemed to be getting closer to him in each shot. Surely the interviews could have been held in one of the bars at the ground, overlooking the pitch. But then the air of hopelessness they were determined to produce might not have worked in more comfortable surroundings. The Forum lads did a good job under obviously trying circumstances: the editing was such that it was determined to show the BBC's negative angle and not to show anything positive.

Absolutely spot on. Add to that the indoor interview with Curbs, probably in some plush hotel, and the big close up on a poxy tea hut.
Let's face it, we shouldn't have expected much - and we got even less.
feckin hell, you lot are making a mountain at of a mole hill. We are in the shit and they are making a story on our embarrassing demise, just get on with it except it hope we learn from our mistakes.Stop being so feckin precious.

what a load of shit no balls from anyone to hit the club hard and ask the questions that need answering,
why the same mistakes have happend in the 2 times we have changed a mgr since Dowie is 1 of them,
why state that results and performances must improve for parky to be given the job the job is another
how many applied for the post ?
what was the calibre of applicant ?
was it purely a finincial decision to employee parky fulltime ?
where do we go from here what is the plan sould we get relegated ?
Who is to blame where does the buck stop?
what have you put in place to ensure that the rot will definatly stop next season?
these are all questions that need to be answered not fudged over there needs to be a plan we need to know what it is IMO
they are having a very easy ride throughout the whole shambolic mess that is CAFC this season and i am begining to wonder what we have to hide
and hansen and all the rest can go f*ck themselves, they have never liked us or respected us and never will, not intereste in what they have to say .....
