    Up the addicks!!
  • Well, his Mum lived in Welling.

    ;o)
  • Terrible Thread IMO
  • [cite]Posted By: vancouveraddick[/cite]Terrible Thread IMO

    Why? anything specific?
  • I think the timing is a tad late IMO. i think questions needed to be asked and not pussyfooted around months ago, I do not and have no thought they should come from the fans forum i think they should be more publically debated be worded harshly and aimed at those at the helm, I feel there has been a media blackout by the club on any questions that will highlight their frailties and in some cases incompetent decisions.

I think that the club has hid behind its fans and its high regard that we held them in and to be honest it is poor show and piss poor respect on their parts and with out naming people i hae been informed that the club has been approached by a newspaper and the club has knocked backed answering those questions that needed asking.

I have said on here and i will say it again I will not be calling for answers i will not join in the barracking or the suggestion of strong protest action UNTIL the game is up and we are relegated to league 1 but after then i will be at the front of any demand for action and the right for those questions to be answered.

I Love this club always have always will but my commitment my finacial support my loyalty is not to be abused and my right as a shareholder to have questions answered in the way that most football fans understand and not be lied too and fobbed off with a load of rubbish long winded statements that tell us nothing
  • I personally don't think they've been hiding at all. They were at the agm and answered questions, they have spoken to newspapers, they have appeared at fans events, they're meeting with the fans forum next week. its a darn sight more than directors/chairmen do at other clubs.

I don't know what you want them to say to make you and others feel better. they've admitted time and time again that they made mistakes and they hoped they wouldn't happen again, but how can you say for sure that you know you won't make a mistake in anything you do? its all a risk, and just because they're the decision makers, the blame lies with them and they must, and do take the blame.

they love this club too, and their financial committment and support have helped build it up to what it is, so i dare they are hurting as much as you that things aren't going well currently. I don't believe they have lied and any statements they have released are based on facts, and if people can't or won't read them as they are, and make of them what they will, then what else can they possibly do?
  • Suzi

they did lie they said that results not only performances would have to improve for Parky to get the job.

    That was a lie

what others have we been told
  • yeah, but they also said this to support it:

"There has been a lot of hard work behind the scenes and performances have improved, although that hasn't been shown by results yet," said Richard.

"We've looked at the alternatives, but the calls and discussions we've had, given the current situation, have led us to conclude that there is no one better than Phil to turn things around, and we believe any money the club currently has to invest must be spent on the pitch.
"Changing managers and the backroom staff comes at a very high cost, and it's clear we need to focus any investment on the pitch because that is what will really influence matters entering a hugely important period for the club.
"We need someone who can operate smartly during the January window and someone in place for the biggest game of the season, our next league match against Nottingham Forest on January 10th when it's absolutely vital to pick up three points."
He added: "I've been greatly impressed by Phil's motivational skills, and with Mark Kinsella and Phil Chapple, both of whom have Charlton running through their veins, supporting him, we feel they are capable of doing the job that is required.

f there was no one out there that they or we felt that could do a better job than what we got, for the same wage, with the same budget, and get the same inpact, then why change? they felt he could get the results, and they felt he could improve things. The performances did improve, even with players that weren't "his". I think what we're seeing now is more "parky's team" his players, his choices, his formations, and can you honestly say that things haven't improved since november?
  • Anyway, its not about whether parky is or isn't good enough, yes, they made a statement regarding the search for the new manager, and I can't even find a quote where murray states about the strategic review needing results and performances, so that could have been elaborated from a quote as well.

They'll never please everyone and people will read what they want into what is written.
  • edited February 2009
Nope your are right performances changed and the effort changed but the results never came and we are in a results business,

I dont believe that was no one better than Parky available ( i like him and i have always stood bty that) and nor do or did countless others if Parky does not save us then Richards judgement on his last 4 appointments will have proved to be wrong and that IMO is just unacceptable.

"We need someone who can operate smartly during the January window and someone in place for the biggest game of the season, our next league match against Nottingham Forest on January 10th when it's absolutely vital to pick up three points."

yet theat never happend by then we had let too many games go before the announcemnt was made either to us or the players and we did the same when we got rid or dowie for Reed we made the same mistakes.

Everyone is entiltled to make them and that is why Richard should see himself fortunate that as fans the majority of us are well balanced and thought out individuals who do not react in the way like other teams i.w spuds and geordies who demand all the time .

but a lot of what has been said and the way the questions have been asked has been wrong

  • i think Derek Chappell said it suz at Bromley Addicks although i may be wrong.
  • Maybe a lot of what you've mentioned needs to be questioned, NLA.

    But not now.

Everything that this club, players and supporters must do - is to raise our collective energy and give everything to stay in this division. It's one hell of a challenge - but it can be done.

But only if we all sing from the same hymnsheet and UNITE.
  • Oggy we can all sing as long as its not offensive---we dont swear----- upset a player------well upset anyone and its ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra charlton and of course no one stands up.

o yes and its been veted before a panel and we have the song sheet.

ok, I wasn't there so dont know.

i do think the dammed if they do dammed if they don't applies. if they say something it can be taken as gospel and used against them, it could be proved right (we might actually stay up and keep him as a manager and win the league next year?!) if they refuse to comment it leads fans to question why.

Anyway, we all want charlton to do well, directors, fans, employees etc.

fingers crossed for tmrw. signing off from a lonely, cold and dark valley..... Up the Addicks!
  • exactly Oggster

that is why i am not an advocate right now of any action and i have always stated that buddy and i will stick to what i said on the day of Parkies appointment Fulltime

That the club have my attention i am watching and waiting but i will not remain silent should the worst happen
  • Fair enough, NLA ..... and the end of season strikes me as the right time to say what needs to be said.

And GH - if we're to get out of this hole, we need to raise the energy and belief around the place.
    That's the only way.

Anything different, and it won't happen.

None of our situation is the direct responsibility of the fans - but a funereal or carping, negative match atmosphere kills the place. We can lift the mentality, put back that atmosphere of willing the team on, and play our part in building belief.

It makes for a better match experience. And yes - I do believe it can make a difference!
  • Just seen an edited preview of the programme on London news, if we are scarred of this sort of reporting then we do have problems!.
Brighty played it very straight and took no pleasure in being the 'messenger.'

As he said he played there for two years and wanted the club to avoid the drop at least in his heart.

As Parkinson stated it is up to us, there is a third of a season left!

So it is.... So do it!

The constant bickering that goes round and round in circles is doing my head in - I think I should take a break from this site for a while. Nothing personal against anyone it's just I could do with some clarity of thought over the next little while.

    Exactly, Doomsters and Gloomsters!

    It's in our own hands.

    ;o)
  • Shall record it on Virgin Plus :)
  • [cite]Posted By: suzisausage[/cite]can you honestly say that things haven't improved since november?

yep we were 3rd bottom when pardew left and no more than a couple of points from safety and now we're bottom and affectively 9 points from safety
  • edited February 2009
Surely Pardew had a big part to play in that though.
  • i'm saying i haven't seen improvement since november ... parky hasn't improved the sinking ship
  • With a hole the size of the one Pardew left in it ,patching it up was always going to take ages.

Not saying Parkinson will but Pardew did royally f**k things up.
  • yep deffo agree with you on pardew but parky hasn't just walked in off the street he's been here a long time as well

As a renowned writer of epistles myself, I thought I'd show empathy and plough my way through a fellow epistle writer's piece.

I agree with much of what you say Bing, but to crystalise one of your major points - compared to other clubs,
many supporters at our club no longer seem to realise what they have.

It's not the colour of our shirts or the fact that we've actually won a trophy, or created history in footballing terms that makes Charlton different - it's the fact that for the past 20 years, the club was re-birthed in the local community.

From The Valley Party, to re-claiming our 'birthright' ground and rebuilding it, the directors being ardent fans themselves,
the work in the community itself, the involvement between Board and supporters, and many other initiatives - set Charlton Athletic Football Club as a landmark organisation in the football world.

And that's why we are different to a Millwall, Crystal Palace or Tottenham bleedin' Hotspur. Be proud!

Just because this season we are presently bottom of the league, we should never lose sight of this fact.
